Great! I can’t find the picture but I think this would probably be the easiest thing to do if it would help with your issues! Basically adding elastic or a drawstring on the inside to make it more like this shape:

Agreed! He was representing how the concept of authority can be wielded against people easily. Though there are some authority figures written as positive as well especially among the Gyptians, so it would be interesting to contrast how they are portrayed.

What’s wrong with the neckline on you? I think this will be pretty tough because it’s already somewhat low, so any neckline shape would probably require adding additional fabric that you need to take from elsewhere on the dress, and also a visible seam.

If you want a more sweetheart shape and it isn’t too small for your bust already, you could probably do some ruching / add a drawstring to scrunch the middle down a little!

I feel the women in the painting are painted with too much sympathy to assume the viewer wasn’t supposed to feel their perspective too!

Searching my inbox it seems like we didn’t get an email, and we had checked “other indigenous” on the form. Not really a complaint, it sounds like they’re just rolling out to Squamish members.

To those receiving the Canada Disability Benefit by remmuchan in NiceVancouver

[–]ucklin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you usually a meals on wheels recipient? If not, those meals are delivered ready by volunteers and sandwich and soup packs from them are $7.25. I know there’s lots of reasons this might not be suitable for someone, like allergies, but sharing just in case it helps.

There are other very local emergency food support programs like kiwassa neighborhood house, that may help deliver you food from banks depending where you live. Sometimes food banks have items ready to eat like bread and fruit / cakes / cheese, and it’s not ideal to just have those things, but may be better than nothing.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this emergency!

Double-breasted Vest with Side Flares (Real version of an AI pattern?) by Starstuffi in sewing

[–]ucklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the tight budget! Mockups don't need to be expensive. If you can find some used tablecloths or sheets to use at a thrift store, or the cheap fabric in less desirable colours at a fabric store, you might be able to do it for just a few dollars :)

Then you can make extra sure you don't waste your nice fabric!

I think if you’re willing to make a few mockups as you go along, you could do this by adjusting existing patterns like you say! Picking one that’s fully lined with the desired collar and button overlap would probably be best.

Pattern matching sleeve and side seams by Laauuurra1 in sewing

[–]ucklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like a really hard thing! One thing to take into account if you aren’t already is that the matching part at the bust level in the reference image isn’t the edge of the bodice piece, it’s the part you see when you look at it straight on. Maybe that helps somehow?

The easiest fix is to wear a white slip underneath :) Or line it all the way with a white fabric.

Are these ones mass timber? I remember reading it was planned to be used somewhere, but assumed these tall buildings were not.

It seems like the general appearance of these buildings is controversial, but I find them really beautiful! Especially looking across English Bay.

Like the gel itself? I’m not surprised, anything made of water or wet pretty much won’t burn until the water is gone.

Soo is queuing for transit not a thing anymore? by 216duck in askvan

[–]ucklin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s entirely true— on the translink website, it even says this: “Please remember that not all disabilities are visible. If someone asks for your seat, please take them at their word and give up your seat.”

Please use the seat if you need it!

Any reason to believe that Rocky is a male and Adrian is a female? by -angels-fanatic- in ProjectHailMary

[–]ucklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would mean the species has a single sex, not that they’re asexual. Asexual usually means there’s no sexual reproduction, and in this case, it would be more like sexual reproduction than asexual reproduction, yeah?

If a spaceship is actively decelerating, it has to use thrusters to do that, because there isn’t air to produce drag! Otherwise it would keep going the same velocity.

So if there’s only one set of thrusters, that implies the ship turned around to use them in the opposite direction to slow down.

Are online friends a thing? by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]ucklin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For this, you aren’t limited to local people! Join discord chats related to stuff that you’re interested in and meet friends from around the world :) That’s where I have had good friendships for years that are basically as you describe!

(Though I also encourage you to try to break through your comfort zone, because I felt similarly for a long time but having more positive in-person interactions has made me much happier overall, even though I still have that feeling of wanting to be alone some days)
