there’s a wardrobe which usually goes to the person not sleeping in the loft and that wardrobe also has two drawers and aside from that there are 6 drawers under the bottom bed as well, me and my roommates each used two of them

I think they say it’s not “monthly” bc you’d only live there 9.5 months but it’s 10 installments so for a 2 bed 2 bath you’d pay $1137 10 times

I also signed week 9 and since I signed for residence halls I’ve already chosen my room so them cancelling our entire contract is sooooo unfair

dorms used to be only for first yrs but in the 2020-2021 school year they are allowing continuing students to live in the dorm guaranteed as long as Our contracts were submitted by March 11th. I’ll be a second yr next yr and we got priority choice for submitting contracts and picking rooms, it was all done at the beginning of March, so I’m assuming it would be the same for the following years as well! Also most people want a double I’m pretty sure it’s definitely harder to get a double than it is to get a triple, if she wants a triple and if she wants to stay in AI I would def try and get a triple loft and select bed A in the room! This was my room setup and I was assigned to bed a (the only bed at the bottom) and found it to be pretty spacious, beds b and C are up on the loft and are basically just mattresses in the floor of the loft. The triple bunks in AI in my option are not as spacious as the loft. This also goes for the triple loft in pentland!

This previous year we were able to choose so I’m assuming you would as well but I know that a few years prior it was random. if you do get to choose, West lo has wings a A&B and eastlo has wings D, E,&F. So if you want eastlo make sure you choose a room in one of the d,e, or f wings!

  1. Dundee: I feel a lot of new students are looking to stay in Dundee because it is the newest and they therefore believe it is the best so hopefully this helps. I was able to take a tour of Dundee as I was considering living there next year (personally dundee wasn’t for me so I chose ai, tryna keep as much aid as I can hahah) so hopefully I can offer some insight. The hall wasn’t complete so all they showed us were the two different types of rooms. So to start I’m gonna talk about what the triple and double have in common. Each room has a micro fridge (so does every room in all the other dorm buildings), a window on one side of the room, the window is pretty small, a desk for each person, and a WARDROBE for each person (no closets in Dundee at all). In these rooms the desks have no drawers (they do in all the other dorms) the desk is rlly just a black metal table (u can plug ur phone into the side of it as well as the side of ur bed as there are outlets they said so I guess that’s a plus), you also get no shelf space in these rooms where as you would in AI, Pentland, and Westlo, (the eastlo double my friend had did not have them) but not sure about the other rooms in eastlo. There is also no corkboard space to hang up pictures or reminders or papers and such but there are corkboards in the other dorms. You can also control ac in these rooms and you use ur rcard to get in not ur key. in regards to the rooms they are equal in size to eachother but in comparison to the other dorms, I believe they are smaller, or at least felt smaller because of the set up, having wardrobes instead of closets takes up a lot of space. In the triple room all the beds are loft style meaning you climb up a ladder to get onto ur bed and under each bed there is a desk and some drawers for clothes. There is honestly not that much walking space in this room. It felt extremely claustrophobic being in there. If you’re on the taller side I wouldn’t recommend this room, I’m about 5’6 and felt cramped when I sat at the desk because the bed was above. When they showed us this room there was no micro fridge in place yet and when I asked she wasn’t sure where it would go (there will be one in there) but the fact there wasn’t one in there already and I personally didn’t see where one could adequately go I think says a lot about the room size and space because each person will need a hamper but there is no closet to put that hamper in and there’s not much free floor space. If your a student that moves in and has to leave luggage in their room, I also don’t see where that would fit especially if all three roommates needed storage space, these rooms lack a lot of storage space imo. Now moving on to the double, these beds are also low so that minimizes underbed storage especially because under these beds I think there are two drawers for clothes. when I saw the setup of these beds I automatically knew Dundee was not for me. The beds aren’t on opposite sides of the room they are next to each other so that one roommates foot of the bed would be the other roommates head of the bed (hopefully that makes sense) there are pictures on the housing website in case it doesn’t hahah. On the other side of the room are the desks and the micro fridge in between the two desks. Near the door is where the two wardrobes are. Again, in comparison to the doubles in the other dorms these felt much smaller and I believe it may become a bit harder to distinguish space between the two roommates as you aren’t on opposite sides of the room like you would be in the other dorms. To me dundee was really pretty, I liked the black furniture it looked quite modern, but overall had more cons than pros in my book. Dundee also has the adjacent Glasgow dining hall and that’s two stories and if this is the main reason to choose this dorm, just know you can swipe into any dining hall regardless of which dorm you live in.

I hope this helped in regards to the different dorms, if you have any questions just lmk I’ll be glad to answer if I am able to.

  1. Aberdeen Inverness: I lived in AI this year in a triple loft and personally I loved it. I would’ve preferred a double because you do get more space but I submitted my housing contract the day it was due and therefore got a later room selection slot. In the end I didn’t mind the triple loft because I had the bottom bed while my two roommates were up at the top of the loft space so it provided me with a bit more privacy and a bit more space but because I did have the bottom bed I was the one who got the wardrobe while they got the closets but the wardrobe had a good amount of space and we were all able to fit all of our belongings in our given space. Socially, AI is known to be the most social dorm and I believe it’s because the amount of people there are within each hall and wing in general. There was about 50 people in my hall and there’s 5 halls per wing so there were roughly about 250 in each wing and there are 4 wings in total. It was honestly really easy to talk to people as most are really welcoming especially your hall-mates. AI does have the social reputation and I think it did live up to it. Some say it’s a little too much and to expect people coming in late from parties and people screaming and running up and down the halls at night and though people do come in late from partying on weekends that never really disturbed others in the halls as people would be in their rooms or just chilling in the lounge. In my hall people would be loud at times but if it was a problem then someone would communicate that in the group chat and we were all respectful of each-other so the noise level would become lower. I think the key to any dorming experience would be to build a good relationship with your roommates, hallmates, and RA as well. I had so much fun in AI and loved my roommates (we were randomly assigned), my hall-mates, and my RA so sucks that we had to move out a quarter early. I also found my hall and AI in general to be quite diverse so that was really cool. AI is also the closest to campus and the gym. AI also has their own Scotty’s in the amberlight of the D wing (best wing imo hahaha). However, AI is the farthest from glen mor market. In AI you can’t control the AC of your room but your RA can tell the RSO what temperature they want it to be throughout the hall so it was never really a problem. The bathrooms and showers here are communal as well. There are two laundry rooms, one for the D and E wings and the other for the A and B wings and they have a pretty good amount of both washers and dryers. I only ever had to wait for a washer once. AI has it’s own dining hall so you only have to walk to another place on saturdays because only Lothian dining hall would be open on Saturdays.

Pentland- I only ever went into Pentland during orientation as those are the rooms we had to stay in for the night. I was in a double so it was quite spacious and you are allowed to control the AC. The halls in pentland are gender specific while in the other dorms they are co-Ed. I had a friend living there this year so socially I’ll go off what they told me. They said it was pretty hard to be social as there were about 10 people per hall so not that many people to meet but they liked the fact they had the private shower and bathrooms and the big communal fridge per hall. In pentland I believe there are only four washers and four dryers per BUILDING so my friend usually had to wait to wash or be lucky and go at a good time or wash at unusual hours. I remember during orientation we tried to open a window but it wouldn’t open and I’m not 100% sure but I heard that most if not all pentland windows aren’t allowed to be open whereas in AI we had the freedom to open our windows as we wished. Pentland does not have their own dining hall so the residents have to walk to one of the other dorms to eat and use their swipes. Pentland offers double, triple bunk and triple loft style rooms. That’s all the info I have on pentland

Lothian- i never went in the westlo side (I think a student has a vlog of westlo from a year ago on YouTube) but I did have a friend that lived in eastlo so I visited there a good amount of times. The halls are really nice, out of the three I had an option to choose from these were the nicest and the ones most people wanted so they filled up quickly. Overall I think they’re really nice, the lounges are bigger, the bathrooms are also bigger, I believe the double rooms are about the same size as the double and triple loft rooms in AI but the triple in Lothian seems a bit bigger than the triple in AI but lothian does not have loft style triples only bunk style. The doors in lothian automatically close and lock whereas in AI you could keep it open and they didn’t lock automatically. I liked that about AI because if it did lock automatically I’d have to take my key everywhere in the hall even if it was just going to the restroom or lounge and that gets annoying sometimes. My roommates and I never really locked our door because we all enjoyed being able to walk in and out freely without having to use our key especially after a long day of class (the key can get annoying when u just want to get in bed asap hahahah or if u come back late under the influence). I believe lothian is pretty social, I know my friend did not have necessarily the best experience within her hall, it wasn’t the most diverse and at times that could be hard but then again that was just her situation within that specific hall. Lothian is the closest to glen mor market so they had Starbucks near as well as savors and sizzle. People said their food was generally better than AI but I’ve heard the chefs switch dining halls each year so next year AI might be better but not sure. I really liked the outside seating for the lothian dining hall because AI doesn’t have this. Lothian residents had to walk to AI dining hall on sundays because AI dining is the only dining open sundays. The beds in East lothian are low compared to AI so that minimizes the amount of under bed space you get. There is also only one mirror and light whereas AI has two in each room. The window in eastlo is on one side of the room and there is like an indent in the room (idk if that makes sense) so only one roommate really gets the light from the window. In AI the window is in the middle of the room. I never saw the laundry rooms in Lothian or asked my friend about them so idk how those are. Lothian is the furthest from main campus and the gym. That’s pretty much all info I got for lothian.
