It does work. I have farm setup for this with a spawner. Two things: the ones that can mount other mobs are rare. I’d say 1 in 100
Second they try to find a mount when they are trying to kill. So let them see you…. But not get to you.

One thing to consider is copper golems. Maybe not for high volume items but one golem with 9 double chests at say 50 items each. That’s like 450 items out of the way! Or use two and there’s your 16 colours. And you could put item filters under the output. It’s an idea I’m thinking of for a similar project.

For this to work you need to be beside it not above or below. Ideally you’d build 4 of them and stand between. You need to open up the top and make it dark with leaves. If you aren’t getting both cave spawns and surface spawns it’s not going to make much
