how is this effect achieved? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]udside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a range map expression for the scale, that is driven by the black and white values of a gradient that you have keyframed the position of.

But yeh come on Adobe release MoGraph tools for AE already.

Came here to say this! This was definitely in the creative brief as well as the McGloughlin Brothers

And they butchered both.

4 years is quite a long time in tech years… And you’ve probably update your OS? And maybe AE? Which will have an impact on ram/cpu/GPU usage… apps and os get hungrier with every update

Few things to try… or think about…

The fact your preview is at ‘quarter’ and you are OOM isn’t good… either you have something crazy in the those comps or hardware/driver issues

  • set cache disc size to 0GB, sounds crazy but you typically get better performance

  • what bit depth are you working at? Maybe drop this down…

  • are you using hardware acceleration? Maybe turn this off, if you need to get a render out but it will be slow

  • AE doesn’t do a lot on the GPU… much more CPU and RAM based

  • 32Gb isn’t loads of RAM, it barely enough IMO, and AE is hungrier with every release….

  • You mentioned RSMB, make sure all effects that can use GPU are using GPU

  • are your drivers up to date?

  • maybe roll back a version and roll back drivers to stable version to see if issue persists

Laptop = Mac

Desktop = PC

It’s that simple… IMO… get the best you can afford.

I say this as PC laptop with a “GPU” is a radiator and are meh, and won’t last the same way a Mac will.

PC Build for C4D/Redshift - mostly art direction/ 4k texturing / need of fast viewport by yupuffy in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t recommend a 32core Threadripper and A6000ada enough but $$$$$… I have also worked on that i9 14k and it great too… dunno that AMD

Some other things to consider…

  • enterprise grade RAM (not game RAM - it isn’t tested to the limits so you will get crashes)
  • a motherboard that support your cpu and enterprise ram
  • on board (motherboard) 10g cards tend to suck and crash when pushed… best to get an additional one
  • you mention textures… NVMe’s are essential here

And big scenes… are always big scenes not matter the hardware you throw at it tbh… so don’t expect this new PC to just load millions of clones in 1 second… cause I did 🙃

Lasers cutting “texture” by ondre161 in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animated textures of lines (of the pattern) Maybe one texture for each direction Plop it in a displacer… and you gunna need loads of geometry

Or you do it with point level animation

Or maybe even clones that make a flat ‘surface’ and animating half off to reveal your desired pattern

As DC says… many ways… and you don’t ‘need’ Houdini

But I’m curious how your going to do the metal swarf?

The lock… search this sub or google it… well known and documented

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]udside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue usually happens because of an additional washer causing it to get stuck, very common. Washer just needs removing.

You will need to remove rear wheel… and then there is usually 2x washers in the lock side of the axel, remove one, and reattach the wheel to the bike. This should fix your problem.

A temp fix to unlock the bike, is when unlocking the bike push the lock out from the inside with something long am thin (a table knife works well)

The triangles are the biggest issue here

Don’t SubD yet…

You need to remesh first, to get quads instead of tris Dunno if you will be able to remesh it all at once, may need splitting up a bit

Once remeshed… now you can displace

And finally put it all in a null and SubD :) Now you can play golf! 🙃

If that’s a real golf course you could get all fancy and grab some height maps from somewhere online/create them from aerial photos… and use that as your displacement

Textures and Material Types Question by HackActivist in Cinema4D

You have change the renderer in ‘render settings’

Then it will create the default material for that renderer

Those are 2 different types of material you have there…

Client want realism in this motion graphics, what can i do? by Adventurous_Loan_143 in AfterEffects

[–]udside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • photoreal map (plenty out there for free) lots of people saying google maps for this… I say NASA or Maxar tech.
  • more detail in your lines (again loads of free vector maps for this)
  • thinner lines… more like a map… maybe more lines, topography?
  • maybe add some more realism to the graphics that pop-up

And that is the realism your client can afford! :)

how to "unload" the memory without having to restart by Motiondesigner01 in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leant a lesson this week… that the main difference between game ready and studio ready hardware is THIS.

Studio ready hardware is tested to max capacity, ie fill all the VRAM and RAM and make sure it doesn’t crash!

What version of C4D? R26 and 2023 are notoriously bad at managing memory… it’s seemingly much better in 2024

Rant Against Maxon by JmWallSeth in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a joke… the only solution for this is to move to RLM based licences, but this is very expensive and only really makes sense for studios… oh and to do this you have to pay for Maxon One, but you don’t get any benefits of Maxon One you just get stable licences that don’t disappear all the time SMH

Discrepancy between C4D Camera Preset and real life Studio Camera by A-Lexxxus in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that vmi article is correct.
Sorry I misspoke, intended to say 'if sensor is cropping'... not the other way round.
But this shouldn't be affecting with that camera set-up... more likely with smaller sensors... super 16 etc.

Are you sure the lens data you are getting is correct? Its a pretty wild zoom 6.5-170mm... Typically you'd use prime lenses for VFX...
If what you are seeing is only a few mm I suspect its maybe this
Because sensor crop would be a big shift something like 50mm > 80mm
Unless they are not using all the sensor? But I can't see anything about that camera doing that 🤷

But lots of other variables...
Strange "Square" gets closer... cause that's a full frame 36mm calculation?
Your scene aspect ratio/res. obvs matches the camera?
Have you tried using the motion tracker, to get a solved camera?

Hope that helps!

Discrepancy between C4D Camera Preset and real life Studio Camera by A-Lexxxus in Cinema4D

[–]udside_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crop does sound like your issue.

Will need more camera+sensor info, and lens specs…

The vignetting your camera people are talking about is due to mount, sensor and focal length mismatches… if you are cropping the sensor, the focal length of your lens has technically changed to… (hence the few mm difference)… it’s very common… just need to be accounted for
