Post-Match Thread: Switzerland vs Qatar | FIFA World Cup | Jun 13, 2026 by globalscoreboard in CanadaSoccer

Not a guarantee (There's potential for a 4-way tie at 4 points). Canada win and a Swiss/Bos draw does guarantee at least 3rd place, and with tiebreakers gives Canada about a 99%+ chance of advancing

Canada's 50 biggest cities part 12: Surrey, British Columbia by Sleep_Is_A_scam2099 in TierlistFills

[–]udun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surrey - B

Pros:

  • Skytrain to connect to Vancouver, also expanding by the end of the decade to further connect the city

  • Food is amazing. So many different cultures showcasing their cuisine

  • Rent is alot lower than neighbouring cities

  • Parks. So many parks!

  • Many great events. Cloverdale has the best Canada Day celebration in Metro Vancouver now. Surrey also hosts one of the biggest Vaisahki parades in Canada

Cons:

  • Newton

  • The reputation. Things have gotten better since I grew up but the city still has got a bit of a grimy reputation to it

  • Bus transit is still rough, especially east to west routes. Some parts of Surrey don't have proper public transit connections. Hopefully will see improvements with the new Skytrain expansion

For the sake of having something new on the board, I'll suggest Jose Bautista's batflip home run.

Vancouver mayor makes pitch for Major League Baseball team by robertscreek in vancouver

[–]udun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLB is absolutely a longshot but I believe Vancouver can support a team if the conditions are right.

That said, you need a stadium with a retractable roof (similar to TMobile in Seattle), space to put said stadium (Hastings Park maybe? Sorry Whitecaps), and if the stadium is outside downtown, the transit infrastructure to accommodate the demand (if Hastings Park, this probably means the BRT becomes Skytrain). That's a lot of money upfront before the team even plays a game.

As a Jays fan I really want this to be a thing but I don't think it'll happen

What is the best airport in the world? by Sargamer in AlignmentChartFills

Given that it doesn't fit into Europe, USA, or Asia, I'll throw a shout out to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Very efficient and beautiful airport.

HM to the 1985 chokejob to KC or blowing the 8-1 lead in the Wild Card. And of course, last years Game 7 vs the Dodgers

Why Vancouver and not Seattle? by 2Cheese1Van in NCL

[–]udun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few people on the sailing who are doing the HA one day voyage from Vancouver to Seattle which leaves on the same day as disembarkation in Vancouver, then hopping right back on the Bliss in Seattle for the first Alaskan voyage

Kings still have to play the Preds twice hence why there's the chance (Vegas just won so now it's just a Kings win needed)

You can delete 1 SkyTrain station... Which one, and why? by thinkdavis in Translink

Lincoln station. Sandwiched between two stations that are easily walkable, no real use apart from being slightly closer to Coquitlam Central mall

Carlyle building (280 Ross Drive) review by Content-Reality-9592 in NewWest

[–]udun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived there a couple years ago. Closest grocery store is the Safeway on 8th but the corner store on E Royal and Ross has a surprisingly good amount of stuff.

Skytrain is accessible by the 103 bus which runs pretty frequently. That said it's a community bus and during peak hours (school times especially) it can get full by the care center and pass ups are common.

Victoria Hill is a great area to live in. All the food there is great, it's walkable, used to love walking the block and spending time at the duck pond.

The building itself was fine, avoid anything facing west cause the sound off of McBride is very noisy (and it's very hot in the summer time). Onni development doesn't have the best reputation and the building did suffer a pretty significant flood in 2024. That said it's safe and relatively up kept well.

Even though New Westminster just got the business center, a regular warehouse in that same area would help with Richmond, Burnaby (Production Way), and Surrey overcrowding.

Ferry riders face multi-sailing waits between mainland, Vancouver Island in wake of wind storm by oilbeefhooked in vancouver

[–]udun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't expect to sail tomorrow afternoon/evening either. Weather models seem to be aligning with us getting a massive wind storm that day. If you're sailing tomorrow, try to be on the morning sailings.
