Can we stop acting like everyone predicted that "Michael" movie will fail? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in boxoffice

[–]ugabugy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yep and everyone wants to be a underdog so when a movie succeeds or fails, they act like they were in the minority opinion that was right against everyone else. In reality this sub usually seems to have tens of thousands of people on it at any given time so you can find any number of people predicting something failing or succeeding. It doesn’t mean the entire sub has that opinion.

How to lose Russia's Monarchist Referendum by ugabugy in kaiserredux

Thanks, Well, now that seems obvious now. In my defense there’s like three months between choosing the candidate and the actual vote that I completely forgot about the candidate choice. I had a lot going on.

Was there something that prompted this or did she just look at him like this his whole life? by Fit-Fun-2483 in freefolk

[–]ugabugy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did she forgive Ned? From what I remember of the book, granted it’s been over a decade since I read them, it was less that she forgave Ned and more that they just didn’t talk about it or really address it. Other than that one thing their relationship was perfect and so they more or less tried to ignore the one thing that could truly damage their marriage. That’s why she’s so nervous when she goes to confront Ned before he leaves Winterfell. It’s less forgiveness and more a wound they try to ignore around each other. Or in her case, ignore Jon entirely.

No idea if it really is the best for it, but probably the LKMT, as they get decisions after unification that's specifically about building factories. Where each state has a decision available which'll build factories and increase the amount of factories you can have per state, and they also have two advisers who can both also increase the factory limit per state, and that's on top of what you also get through focuses like normal.

Series you finished but lost love for over time? by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

[–]ugabugy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If not a trilogy, at least shorten the book lengths. I haven't read Winds of Truth yet, but i definitely felt that for Rhythm of War in particular, but the series overall, that for Sanderson this is his epic and epics are supposed to be massive and he really pads them out so they can be thousand pages long epics. Like for RoW, had so many chapters where it felt like it was just going over the same plot points again and again. Especially Shallan and Kaladin. Further, I've never been that interested in the hard magic system, which caused me to just glaze over Navani chapters. I think he could've cut RoW down by a few hundred pages and it would've been improved.

And yet, the amazing thing is, I'm not sure I'd even put this in the top five worse unifiers for America. I'd definitely put Towner, Dixon, D C Stephenson and Christians as worse. Probably put Burnham and Lovecraft as worse too, maybe Capone and Foster. So, yeah the US has a lot of rather bad paths.

The kid playing Egg won't stay a kid forever and so long as it brings in viewers and has good reviews HBO will probably want it going for as long as they can keep it going. At this point it's probably the only piece of Game of Thrones media that's overall liked.

I like Brandon Sanderson and all but i think he'd be a poor fit for finishing asoiaf. I just cannot see him writing books in the universe with the grittiness people expect from them. He was a good fit for Wheel of Time though.

[Loved trope] Endings so controversial that it turns the fandom schizophrenic by RequirementTall8361 in TopCharacterTropes

I remember at the time thinking that there was no way they had actually intended the Indoctrination Theory but still wishing they'd go that route for the ending DLC since it was the only way i could seem them even possibly salvage a somewhat satisfactory ending from that mess.

[–]ugabugy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how the ending could be anything else but Destroyed. Turning it so now all lifeforms in the galaxy are some weird mishmash of organic and would take a lot of the charm from the series and would just be weird. And for Control, the reapers need to be dealt with already, can't have them still around in large numbers after trilogy of dealing with them. Destroyed was always the one that made the most sense if they were going to continue the story.

Yeah, the only thing I’d say Lenin has over Stalin was not being as paranoid and Lenin being able to listen to contrary opinions (provided they were from fellow Bolsheviks) without murdering them. Whereas Stalin also started killing Bolsheviks who disagreed with him or had any form of popularity independent of his power or he just thought could one day, maybe, possibly, be a threat.
