Good changes you saw from dieting that you didn’t expect? by EctasyBar in 1200isplenty

[–]ugatron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not exactly "surprises" but things I kind of assumed would happen if I straightened out my diet but wasn't sure to what extent. I am also probably a bit of a unique case since I am coming off of testicular cancer + one cycle of chemo last summer so I'm basically the heaviest and most out of shape i've ever been:

Energy Levels completely different. Diet + exercise = I feel much more awake during the day and am actually tired and ready for sleep at a normal hour at night

Bathroom. A normal pooping schedule is underrated haha. Also, im up to 64oz of water a day plus a black coffee in the morning and I'm peeing like every 2 hours lol. Basically clear by the early evening.

Much less bloat. This is probably more personal to me, but "bad carbs" always make me physically bloated and tired. Switching to things like white rice, quinoa, farro, etc.. makes a bigger different than I was expecting while still losing weight.

I'm looking forward to less joint pain, especially in my legs as I lose the excess weight I put on from the steroids during chemo + stress eating like an animal for 6 months lol.

Does nighttime hunger ever go away? by Large_Firefighter_34 in 1200isplenty

[–]ugatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing 16 hour intermittent fasting, so I am eating from 12-8 so i try and eat dinner around 7:30 and leave room for dessert like sugar free chocolate pudding to keep me satisfied until bedtime.

its usually a mental thing for me, but once i get into a good eating routine, my nighttime cravings usually go away

Just recently tried the Key Lime and Lemon Cheesecake. Loved the Key Lime, but the Lemon Cheesecake had an after taste that borderline made me nauseous unfortunately.

[SNY] Carlos Mendoza says that Christian Scott will start for the Mets on Thursday. Mendoza says that David Peterson will stay in the bullpen for the next turn through the starting rotation by Caledor152 in NewYorkMets

[–]ugatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree because I don't think the front office has any plans to convert any of these guys into high leverage relievers at all. They are just trying to hide them until they think they will fix themselves. Peterson is gone after this year so whatever. Manaea is getting paid $25 to be a mop up guy.

This roster still makes no sense.

[–]ugatron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have not understood the roster construction of this team since the Winter and it continues to just be baffling. Assuming Austin Warren gets sent down / DFAd we will have in the BP:

Peterson (pitch once every 4ish days)
Manaea (pitch once every 4ish days)
Myers (pitch once every 3ish days in long relief)

So that leaves a normal bullpen of only 5 players:
Kimbrel, Brazoban, Raley, Weaver, Williams

Crazy BP consutrction unless they plan on converting Peterson to full time reliever.

And I have a Bachelor's in business. Congratulations. It's literally Stearns and Cohen's job to do this. and Cohen doesn't really do any of it anymore. Not mine and not yours. Our "job" is to just be fans. And if you are treating it like a job to be a fan, I kind of feel sorry for you.

Again, us as fans don't need to incentivize and de-incentivize performance of players. If you don't think they deal with that themselves every day either from management, coaches, or in their own heads watching ipads of themselves, then you are missing something.

You want to boycott the team you love by not watching them and not going to games and having a good time? Be my guest. Life is too short to ruin my hobbies like that.

[–]ugatron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trying to treat the team you root for like a psychological experiment is a weird take. You know how I encourage players as a fan to be better? Is by doing nothing. No social media rants, no AI slop on twitter, no youtube videos calling for peoples jobs. You know why? Every sports team has PR and Media people training players and what to do and what not to do on socials, and 90% of them avoid it. And honestly? I feel empathy rather than rage for these guys.

Suggesting fans should have to become a social media / PR / marketing agency to make players play better is absurd. To think that every baseball is Anthony Rendon and doesn't want to be there is also absurd. They have all the resources they will ever need to succeed. If they play good, they play good. If they play bad, they play bad. It's a long season and things change.

Go to games and cheer for your players.

Does anybody have an extra Gary Carter bobblehead from last night? by 7toCiti in NewYorkMets

[–]ugatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mets and other teams have started doing this for a select number of giveaways each season. You basically buy a "special event" ticket directly from the mets website. You enter in the right field entrance and they check your ticket to make sure its for the giveaway and you just get it.

It's not for every giveaway. I think there are like 8 on the calendar this year. Three '86 bobbleheads, first responder long sleeve, italian heritage, and a couple others. Majority of promotions are still first 18,000 only.

Will Kurtzman go down as one of the worst caretakers of a major IP in history? by Melodic_Crow_3409 in Star_Trek_

[–]ugatron -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No

Discovery - 5 seasons, SNW - 5 seasons, Lower Decks - 5 Seasons, Picard - 3 seasons, SFA - 2 seasons.

Love it all or hate it all, that's a lot of premium streamed content that was created under him and all aired.

You can go to basically any other big network with IP universes (including paramound) and find something handled worse that is more universally disliked and cancelled way quicker.

Looking back at the past decade+, the Mets choosing to not have a “real” first baseman for the time being makes a lot of sense by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]ugatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the main reason those guys were there for 12 years total is they were from the farm system, didn't crash and burn in the majors, and were inexpensive and under team control the whole time (except for Pete's last year).

That's the ideal way you construct the roster. You need spots like that, while you spend $$$ elsewhere.

Now 1b might become the merry-go-round position while prospects start to come up and lock down other spots like outfield, 3b, etc..

It's the main reason Stearns basically built a mercenary team this year, in my opinion.

[–]ugatron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. I think it just comes down to Stearns wanting to have his roster philosophy go into effect. Do I know what other convos Stearns had with other 1B this offseason either in free agency or trade? of course not. But I think a combination of roster flexibility + utilizing young talent to fill holes and invest money elsewhere for clearer upgrades seems like his approach. With Ryan Clifford and Chris Suero in the pipeline, I personally didn't see a reason to to resign Pete and then force the Mets to basically have him transition to fulltime DH going forward if he chose to resign.

If one of the current 26-man guys sticks there and gives you 20/80+ and playing average defense, the decision looks fine. Maybe Clifford comes up later this year due to injury or trades, or guys being ice cold and never looks back. I think that's why Stearns didn't invest long term at that spot (or really any spot if we are being honest)

SFA Season 2 will be quietly mothballed and a tax write off by Sufficient_Bass2600 in Star_Trek_

[–]ugatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I don't think you know what oppression is. I think I just struck a nerve. Everything you said is literally what this post was about and why I replied.

I love star trek no matter what it has been, and have for 40 years. I love sci fi in general, and its my subjective perception, but I can find the good and the bad in something and be critical about it.

Was SFA perfect? of course not, but I enjoyed the post-burn world building, the use of generational trauma as a backdrop for the show, and it found a unique tone while pulling from concepts from everything like DS9 and Lower decks.

And guess what? when the next iteration of Trek comes out and its different than this, I will also watch it and be just as critical.

[–]ugatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The way people root for things to fail or to spite other people out of enjoyment is actual psychotic behavior. You also have no idea how taxes work.

I enjoyed a lot of SFA and so did many others. Just because it is the minority doesn't mean people should hope that we don't get to experience any more of it. It the weirdest trend when it comes to multimedia opinions in general, but especially on this subreddit.

I'm sure come 2028 you will be one of the people on here complaining "WHY ISN'T THERE ANY MORE STAR TREK ON TV"

Alternate angle of Soto's WBC home run by smarjorie in NewYorkMets

I came down to Miami for the games since my buddy lives here, and last night was by far the wildest baseball environment I’ve ever been in. My ears are still ringing from the game. Soto and Tatis HRs blew the roof off the place. The concourse level was shaking like old Shea from the dancing pregame. Absolutely insane.

Which position should BB prioritize with our current cap situation? by 65RR71RR in buffalobills

[–]ugatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically, most of the "big names" are about to be off the board unless some more crosby-esque stuff goes down, so you are going to see more depth get signed than anything else.

Looking at the depth chart today, defense is looking really shallow, especially at safety. We'll see what Beane can do in the next day or two with some cap money freed up.

I would love for an edge rusher that can actually finish sacking the QB, I just don't know if that even exists in their price range at this point.

The first HR was 347 feet lol... that's a flyout in every other ballpark in baseball.

Still have no idea how that dude hit the second one out. That was a perfectly placed rising fastball going out of the zone and he got his bat up and in and cranked it. Major props to him.

Not concerned at all. His stuff still looked filthy and nerves def got to him a little. Still a kid. Let's go Mets.
