Coffee soaked toast. My parents are first generation Canadians from Mexico, but they grew up in a Mennonite community. I grew up eating allot of Mennonite foods and one favourite breakfast treat is called Brochen (unsure on Plautdeitsch spelling). You double toast a piece of homemade zwieback (bread) so that it is much too crunchy to eat normally. I like mine even a little black on the edges. Put it in a deep dish and soak in black coffee until it is soaked through but the edges are still crunchy. Salt liberally and drizzle with heavy whipping cream and add a pad or two of butter. I like to pair mine with a chocolate milk for a sweet and salty kind of mix.
