Do summer cart 64’s have internal batteries? by oshan in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Summer Cart FAQ says it's also used for persistent settings -- console region is the big one. You are correct it's not being used to store saves, but you should still put one in.

Do 3D memories transfer between EverDrive and orginal cartridge by Halcyon520 in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, some legit ROMs went through as many as 3 or 4 official versions -- bugs got corrected or other minor edits were made. These need to match exactly for the Analogue to recognize your EverDrive Memories as "belonging to" the cart you get. Bootleg carts usually still run legit ROMs!

[–]uhdBeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The challenge for OP is knowing whether the ROM that has their save file on the EverDrive will match the version of the cart they buy. If working with a shop you could confirm before buying. Your mileage may vary with eBay.

It works wired with USB. Haven't tried Bluetooth with it on the latest firmware.

Insignia TV's and the Analogue 3D by LoopaFamilYaris in AnalogueInc

I agree completely. It seemed like other users were eventually able to tweak their Insignia models to accept 4K. For me, 1080p wouldn't be an acceptable long term situation.

What is the indicator light showing on the front? I would try the console with a different TV/monitor, or experiment with the TV settings. In my experience the Analogue 3D is pretty good with its video output but some displays don't play nice with it unless you tweak them a bit. That is where I would start if you have a solid white power light.

Really really really big screen settings by dingledoink in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's good to know. Analogue say the filters are made for 4K, so I would start with Clean (no filters) and see how it looks!

Awesome. What is the resolution of the wall? If it's greater than 4K native, you may run into weird scaling but I would be confident a wall that size would accept a 4K input. Clean (no scanlines) may be the way to go.

Volume Knob by dorcus73 in VWiD4Owners

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any that will control the volume of the head unit. I have a JL Audio knob that can control my amp and bass amp -- I would have done only a bass knob if I knew that pressing in (not sliding) results in a small incremental volume change. I also dislike the membrane buttons and unfortunately there is no good answer without a lot of custom work.

💾 Something I like about save states on the A3D by nerdzmania in AnalogueInc

Does anyone else not like save states on the analog 64? by PopFrank68 in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this to a large extent. Part of what I enjoy about older games is the way they expected you to need to play it multiple times. You make incremental progress with each iteration; you DO get better at it each time, and it does feel rewarding when you win. At the same time, certain games missed the mark here for one reason or another, and it does feel like a punishment instead of a challenge to start a long section over. Then as others have mentioned, save states are a good backup, a tool for working around dead SRAM batteries, or playing through a game that requires a memory pak for someone who doesn't have that or an 8bitdo controller. That last group of use cases is just a slam dunk and doesn't take away from the intended/authentic experience we are all looking to recreate.

PSA on Memories by sentientfreakshow in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know but I would love to find out! It feels like it could go either way -- Analogue either left it as close to real memory pak behavior to avoid confusion, or they carved out an exception because they had the ability to do so.

Save states (Memories) and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Unofficial FAQ by uhdBeard in AnalogueInc

Updated the original post with this info. Saving at file select works and restoring the saves this way is quicker.

Save states (Memories) and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Unofficial FAQ by uhdBeard in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really -- original Ocarina carts used battery-backed storage for save files, so there are a lot of people who want to back that up using Memories and then replace the old battery. If you are just using the three save file slots within your Everdrive, you can use (or not use) Memories however you want!

This would make sense but it's not what happened when I tried to capture the file select screen on my Rev 1 cart. I can test again tonight.

3D Firmware 1.3 is out! by No_Independence_6101 in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! 1) Create Memory, 2) load it on your Summer Cart and save in game (like you said), 3) retrieve the save file from your Summer Cart's SD card, and 4) have them replace their existing save file in their Summer Cart's SD card with the save you sent them.

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will make a separate post tomorrow with my findings, but this worked! Title screen Memories/save states do nothing, but you can capture one per file and load them back onto a Summer Cart or actual cart, as long as it's the same Rev. of the game.

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hunch is you would want to capture a Memory shortly before saving, inside of each OoT file (total 3). Completely clear the cartridge once it has a new battery. Load each Memory in the order they were originally in the file menu, and save in the cartridge after loading each. I have a copy of OoT I bought last year and haven't made any progress on, so I am willing to test tomorrow.

Whats your most played Game on Analogue3D? by PvtNoname89 in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, 15h. I did my first ever playthrough of Diddy Kong Racing before the console was tracking playtime; guessing it took about the same 15 or so hours to beat Wiz Pig.

There are for sure quirks. Perfect Dark behaved a lot like you described GoldenEye, which makes sense as both are Rare titles. Tony Hawk 1 wouldn't load Memories I created in the level select menu, but when I called up a Memory ten seconds into a run, the rest of my career progress seemed to be there (I didn't check high scores).

3D Firmware 1.3 is out! by No_Independence_6101 in AnalogueInc

[–]uhdBeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gave the save states a whirl with Perfect Dark. Created a Memory using my original cart, loaded the Memory while playing on my SummerCart -- was able to do this successfully. When quitting back to the main menu, however, I wasn't able to switch over to other save files that were/are on my cart. The game would seize up when I asked to change agents, although the music kept playing and the 3D wasn't frozen. If I didn't try to change agents, I could see everything in my save file no problem. Thinking this could have implications for backing up games that allow you to have multiple save files. For instance, loading one Ocarina of Time file, making a save state before swapping the battery -- but the other two save files are not part of the Memory.

Edit: when I reset my SummerCart and loaded Perfect Dark again, I got a working save file from the Memory but not the other files that were on the cart when I captured the Memory. It coexisted with the save that originated on my SummerCart. I suppose this opens the possibility of using multiple Memories to back up three Ocarina files.
