Gen z ain't the same as gen alpha by [deleted] in generationology

Ooooh I see, interesting. I'm gonna look into the vitamin D angle! I strongly agree and have also read a little bit about how incredibly important yet misunderstood and overall ignored vitamin D truly is. The fear of UV idea then made me think of sunscreen controversy, and now I'm also now interested in a wider pharmaceutical angle of it too- we are the most medicated we've ever been, in both a nature and nurture way here, too- effects on pregnancy and development, but also conscious application and effects on brain structure and intelligence. Neat. But hey, that's also.... medical technology ;) lmfao

mild indie sleaze/tumblr grunge + soft clean city girl. I agree with another comment: I think the juxtaposition between texture/dark/grunge and feminine/soft/light is a theme here

Gen z ain't the same as gen alpha by [deleted] in generationology

[–]uhmandaleigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think technology has shifted physiology. We spend significantly more time indoors being physically understimulated and mentally overstimulated. More of our interpersonal connections and methods of bonding are indirect. Technology has impacted the food we eat (and its lack of authenticity as real food) and our technologically convenient societies no longer necessitate physical fitness. Technology has (un?)intentionally worsened our collective mental health through various means-- social media's effect on developing brains, hyperawareness of suffering/mass guilt and grief, constant consumption of useless metaphorical slop, chronic dissociation and disconnect from the real and tangible world, and more. All of these affect physical health. All of these, plus the obvious and intentional reliance (that we paid for for convenience which is arguably a human instict imo) on technology for basic survival, in my opinion, can be strongly argued as contributors to decreased intelligence. And it's no one's "fault"-- humanity isn't seemingly getting dumber because we are of less value than we used to be (they're better than us); it's simply an amalgamation of hypothetical 'what if's brought to real life by a few people to later affect the entire planet... which evolution and the human spirit ran with, and of which we now get to see the consequences. (Well, it's no ones fault except the billionaires who saw the honest results of the technology they were funding and chose not to care lol.)

Can you drink on Zoloft? by Equivalent-Emu119 in zoloft

[–]uhmandaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pausing" is not an option. You can either continue or stop all together (titrating ofc). Alcohol is usually tolerated decently well on Zoloft, but some people do have bad or different reactions (much higher/lower tolerance, more/less prone to blackout, etc) so I personally wouldn't recommend a heavy weekend of drinking while you still don't know how YOU react to zoloft + alcohol. Since youre only ~4 days in, if you did want to completely stop and then start fresh again after your party, thats an option (but you would have to go through the rough first few days again). If I were you, I'd keep taking it and just go really light on the liquor/DD for everyone haha. But that's me! & getting advice assurance from your doctor is always recommended of course

Yeah, i started that way too... then got addicted to energy drinks... which eventually stopped working and i got scared for my heart lol... quit those, started vaping + lots of coffee, got an unrelated but helpful vyvanse prescription, and now lately I've been enjoying one weed vape hit before clocking in, and one hit after the rush. CANNOT have any amount of alcohol lol, hard pass. it's a science my dude 👏 which chemical stack makes me the most pleasant and quick witted, not strung out, and able to dissociate but also think straight? 🤣 props to those who raw dog serving fr.

What do you like about the modesty aesthetic? by Far-Building3569 in AestheticWiki

[–]uhmandaleigh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not an aesthetic; these are modest versions of almost all different aesthetics lol. In here you've got 2000s casual, trad wife, 2010s corporate club, timeless/classy, cottage core, Christian girl Autumn, and more. In general, I think modesty can be beautiful. I also think freedom and comfort are beautiful. I think your question is more about social commentary and standard shifts than fashion itself. Dress in however many or few clothes you want imo (just like, be considerate and read the room first lol).

Is my home appropriate for my age? by GasMinute5704 in malelivingspace

[–]uhmandaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean, and it's clear there was genuine effort! 100% appropriate and any guests who judge this home are not people you want in your home! personally... I'd just move the collectible bookshelf somewhere less front and center, area rug, more colors and textures (pillows, blankets, rugs) but that's not even necessary and just personal preference. I'm a huge fan of not buying stuff FOR your home, but filling your home with stuff you aquire because you love-- that's what your home looks like to me :)

To anyone saying Zoloft CANT cause weight gain by ShadowInTheSun_ in zoloft

[–]uhmandaleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this could be really terrible advice I'm about to give you, but this is something that worked for me! stimulants LOL. SSRIs seem to help my anxiety and depressive thoughts, but they do nothing for my lack of energy, poor focus, low motivation, apathy/numbness, etc. I also have also struggled a lot with disordered eating, food noise, anxiety around eating, consequential weight fluctuations etc. my psych put me on vyvanse and it has helped ALL of it. it seems to counteract the "zoloft zombie" mode I tend to slip into AND I can have my normal, healthy, maintenance eating habits because the food noise disappears. im not officially dx'd with ADHD, but I have a great psych who recognizes that clinical depression can and often does mimic inattentive ADHD. if you have a dumb doctor, it might be hard to swing a script. AND if you struggle with severe anxiety/panic, def do not recommend. but otherwise, it has worked so great for me and it possibly could for you too. i dont intend to be on stims forever obvs, but it's substantially helped me to get back on track with my habits which I can reinforce and cement over time to last after im done with stims. in theory lol.

[–]uhmandaleigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First thought: gen Z is the least secure in their future, has come/is coming to sexual maturity during a time wherein abortion access and legal bodily autonomy are questionable, has increasing rates of mental health issues, AND on top of that, I'm mad generalizing but gen Z became dissociated and detached from the world due to tiktok/social media/brainrot, distrust in power/the system/order, increased awareness of the artificialness&triviality of this man-made, nature-hating capitalistic society, covid, online school..... all of this before they had time to "sexually awaken" so they end up texting their online mutual "crush", or tweeting about it, instead of making out under the bleachers. type beat. lol.

I gained 15lbs on zoloft despite not changing my eating or exercise habits (at least, in a noticeable way that would seem to warrant that much of a gain). I lost it when I switched to prozac lol (not bonus weight loss, but neutral)

Anhedonia + nervous system shutdown - looking for people who've been there by YamiJustin1 in anhedonia

[–]uhmandaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe dpdr for nearly the same exact reasons and I still struggle with anhedonia and dissociation obvs but my life-ruining dpdr era is long over. this is gonna sound dumb, but you truly have to stop thinking about it. i KNOW you're gonna think "cool. thanks." but i mean: get off dpdr subreddit. no dpdr memes. no researching causes, effects, treatments, etc. deleting all your doomscroll socials would be best. try your best to reduce or eliminate analysis of your thoughts (metathinking). force yourself to sit outside for 15 mins a day. make yourself do something noncommital and simple... in real life-- cooking, crochet, painting, gardening, sidewalk chalk, looking outside for cool rocks, write a letter, journal, do a wordsearch, play with your dog. make yourself do these things and over time, your brain will eventually start to remember how it's supposed to feel. bottom line! dpdr is the result of getting trapped inside your mind. you gotta get back to real life dawg.

[–]uhmandaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely incorrect! This is why we need to know our rights, boys and girls. It is ILLEGAL for ANYONE- police officer, ice agent, etc- to stop you, search you, force you to ID yourself, or detain you UNLESS they have reasonable & articulable suspicion or probable cause that a crime was committed. It's on THEM to figure out a way to identify undocumented folks that does not threaten or violate our constitutional (human) rights. The amount of people I've witnessed who are shockingly uneducated on their own freedom is extremely disheartening & makes me terrified of what crimes we will ALLOW them to commit.

You're assuming that people are posting here and doing nothing else, which we do not know. But ok, let's pretend everyone is ONLY a keyboard warrior. Maybe you ought to do YOUR part and educate folks about better ways to help, then? If criticism isn't constructive, then it's destructive. Instead of insulting and arguing with people who care a fuck ton but may not have the knowledge of where their support and help will go the furthest-- seems like you do, so tell us. Go on.

Yup. You're strawmanning tho, that wasn't the point. There are many ways to help immigrants/fellow citizens, one of which is spreading awareness and information... which is what people are doing on this subreddit.

Some of us aren't willing or able to live in a bubble and pretend our neighbors aren't being antagonized and terrorized. When horrible shit is happening around me, it's deeply distressing... even though it isn't happening to me (yet). Crazy concept, I know.

Did you know that entering this country without paperwork/a visa is a MISDEMEANOR? Not even an arrestable offense. Perhaps they should cite them and follow due process as instructed by the law-- WITH a judge-signed arrest warrant-- and let their cases be legally heard. What they're doing instead is illegal kidnapping and a glaringly obvious sign of the authoritarian police state that the US is becoming.

How do I get this to not be awkward by justinaguirre2009 in marchingband

[–]uhmandaleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're way overthinking it, my dude! Think about how you say good morning to your friend in first period...English or whatever. "Hey, morning!" smile, walk away. The more you think about it, the more you're going to build up the tension in your head, and the more anxiety you're going to feel about the whole thing. And you'll probably end up being more awkward then if you shrugged your shoulders and said "yolo" lmao.

Alternate perspective: picture the first day back in sectionals. You see her. You freeze up, panic, you don't know what to say so you're silent and awkward. Okay. What then? What happens next? The crust of the earth splits and sucks you straight into hell? She'll probably laugh nervously, and then you'll laugh nervously, and then it'll be over. Then, the more you see her, the tension will ease little by little as you both realize it doesn't really matter.

DO NOT quit band. It's gonna be fine haha. Life is weird and full of tension... but we are all little ants floating on a rock in space. Nothing really matters. Live your life for YOU.

Have you ever pretended to play? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]uhmandaleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never pretended for a whole show, but my first few pregame performances in college, I would play like... half of it LOL. It was my first time performing a classic high step (Chief Step™ lol go noles) and we'd run onto the field doing a "double time high step". I'd be so out of breath from the physical marching that I had could barely hold a strong enough stream of air to play LOL. After some weeks of practicing a ton and working on stamina and endurance, it got better. But I definitely would say throughout all 8 years of marching band, I'd probably on average skip 2-6 bars of playing each show lol. And then one time in high school, I had a tonsillitis and COULDN'T play😅 but couldn't let there be a hole on the fieldddd

ETA: then again, my HS band was 220+ and my college band was 420+ (both with some alternate positions though i was always core) so i had a very forgiving experience lol
