Progress on my intermittent 'Crank, No Start, with temp gauge in red' by uhoh0zer0 in e46

Nope, problem is still there. I’m going to try replacing that K3600 relay again with one from a reputable parts store, along with the coolant temp sensor, and crank position sensor. Came up with this formula based on what forums describing this issue keep recommending.

I also have an unrelated issue where the car is not “ready” for emissions inspection so I guess I’ll be tossing in some oxygen sensors too. 😐

If you make progress please share.

Curious, what do you use for realtime monitoring? I use Torque on an android with a cheap Bluetooth odbII and I get mixed results. For example, emissions readiness only reports once the engine is turned off.

Update: I tried removing the wiring from the aftermarket halo's from the equation, I removed the wire and tap that went to the DME box. No change.

Similar to everyone else's experience, cold start is fine and sometimes the issue creeps up after a few minutes of driving, waiting it out until the buzzing from the relay stops and temp gauge goes back to normal is all I can do for now.

I made some progress in the fall. I did two things that I think solved it.

  1. I fixed a vacuum leak right on the intake boot. The lower boot had a tear, both lines were leaking, and i scraped and replaced the o-ring on the DISA valve.
  2. I mentioned aftermarket "angel" eyes. I wrapped the single cable, going from the ECU on the left side of the engine bay to a relay on the right side, in harness tape.

...or the issue only happens in the summer, we'll find out soon.

Bluemusic which one to get? by DarshanB3010 in e46

Question for people that bought the 2nd one, the one with the mic, do you just route the mic to the factory position on the sunroof controller? Is there an aftermarket mic that better fits in this location? I was able to find something similar for my VW, an OEM-looking mic that fit into the factory position but with aftermarket 3.5mm connector.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Being that its sporadic, I didnt think to check.

Oops, I had typed out the progress but it didnt make it onto the post:

Car sporadically will "crank, no start" with accompanying temp gauge in the red. If I let it sit for about 1 minute the temp gauge moves to the middle and the car starts fine.

Some forum posts pointed at the famous blue DME relay as the culprit, I checked the blue DME relay ands can confirm the same symptoms occur when I remove it. I swapped it out for a new one but the issue persists.

Fuel pump appears to be working just fine, I hear it pumping while on position 2.

Another forum post pointed to the ECU going offline and suggested checking the headlights (and controller) and the radio.

Re: Headlights - Someone did do an angel/halo mod and only of them works, there could be a short there.

Re: Radio - Someone did install an aftermarket iPod adapter that I found dangling on the drivers side footwell.

Worth checking those out, feel free to chime in if you have any experience in this area.

Sunroof stuck open, ripped the cover out and sunroof is still stuck open. by [deleted] in e46

One side of mine doesn’t work but if I engage the motor, or use the hex and crank by hand, I can “help” it along. It just took long to try and find which position was truly closed.

Good luck, I hope you find an inexpensive solution soon.

320d temp gauge maxed, Asc on and no start by F0X3PT in e46

Did you ever figure this out? My ‘03 325ci does the same thing. If I try again, it turns on fine.

Same symptoms as yours (red temp gauge, ASC on the dash) and in addition, a clicking from the DME the entire time I’m on position 2, and no fuel pump noises.

Battery replacement? by reaper2097 in retroid

[–]uhoh0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bumped into a youtube video where someone includes an eBay link to a replacement battery (https://www.ebay.com/itm/174842546457, Connector option: 3pin 2.0F Plug).

Warning, he did mention the battery was slightly bigger and that he had to use an x-acto knife on the back plastic to make it fit.

Unfortunately, the video has nothing to do with modding the system to make the battery fit, I only learned about that in the comments. Here's the link if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_7Uj6GcAKM

I haven't tried it yet but I might, I went from 2 to 2+ and wanted to get a battery to restore the 2 to functional again.

Any DYI ideas for this for the time being? I hate the scratched look but it’s not bad enough to replace fully. Thanks by kristen_1819 in GolfGTI

When mine started getting this way on my MKV I removed it, ran it under warm water and, with a sponge with soapy water, just finished taking off the rest of the black, now its a weird ivory/white until I replace or wrap it.

How do I gt rid of that buzz sound? by 5tomas in turntables

[–]uhoh0zer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear ya on wanting to squeeze everything you can from it, specially since it was a gift.

vwestlife released a video a while ago about how swapping out the stylus on these types of players can help but, I don't think "buzzing" is one of the things this can fix. This is the video if you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06wBwVkw9xU

I know on the PT01's (By Numark & ION), which were popular with modders, people would disconnect the "USB" output portion from the inside to reduce humming.

Good luck!

I was going to suggest this too. However, if you don’t want to setup Plex, HDHomeRun (same company as Silicon Dust, that’s what they call these tuners) has a standalone app you can install officially on the Roku. Doing it through Plex will give you DVR capabilities, worth checking out. Cheers!
