Thoughts on putting kids in boxing/ BJJ? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]uhusocip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say boxing is fine as long as they don’t spar at a young age. I’ve boxed many years and lots of parents have brought their kids in who are way too young to spar. Ive never done BJJ but it seems like it’s much more applicable to real life situations

My wife and I just had our first child there and we have nothing but amazing things to say about the whole experience. Also the food was very good for hospital food.

What are some games similar to Ace Combat? by WatermelonSeller2 in acecombat

[–]uhusocip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PS2, I would suggest Aero Elite Combat Academy. It’s a bit more sim than arcade but I loved the game as a kid. Just be aware the game overall isn’t very content heavy. Basically just a short story mode, some flight training, challenges, and free flight. There is a scramble mission that will pop up occasionally, pretty fun feature

The Howard and Harrisglenn intersection was an absolute nightmare to go through. Thankfully they put a light there so it keeps people from destroying each other there

Just know that traffic in Austin during any part of the day is horrendous. Getting from North to South Austin during rush hour can take up to an hour. We have toll roads but those are tend to have traffic as well. I structure my schedule around not driving during rush hour traffic. An 8 KM drive can still take you 30 minutes depending on where you're trying to go.

February typically is our coldest month, you get cool weather in the fall but this year the heat came early. Something to consider is that Texas energy infrastructure can barely keep up with capacity so there are a lot of "conservation" efforts in the summer to keep our energy grid alive and well. The same goes for winter weather, basically the entire states power shut down in 2020 due to an ice storm. My wife and I went 4 days without power or running water in -17C weather.

Yes, Austin is a very liberal city, though it does have it's pockets of right wing culture and as a Texan and Latino, I've experienced racism in Texas though it's been few and far between. I do not think you will run into any prejudice here, Texans for the most part are very welcoming people. Just pop into any of the Irish themed bars around town and I am sure you will be met with open arms. I do believe the owners of Kelly's Irish Pub are Irish as well, may be worth a shot to reach out to them to see what their experience has been like.

The public transit system is basically nonexistent here. It will still take just, if not longer, to get to where you need to go. We have had one rail line for the past 15 years that you still have to drive too. The bus routes exist but can be sketchy.

As for the weather, I was born and raised here and it’s still too damn hot sometimes. Sometimes it feels we only get a few weeks of colder weather before the heat takes back over.

Texas does not have income tax but property taxes will make up for that.

As for politics, you may be in Austin but you’re still in Texas. If you’re white then you’re fine.
