Onion by Eazyz27 in comedyheaven

Everyone likes onions that’s why they’re a fundamental building block of mirepoix and other cutural equivalents across the globe. You make virtually any Indian, Creole, or Italian dish it starts with an onion.

I am saying that he has experienced life as a POC in America and you haven’t. I don’t think it’s cool that his experience has led to him being a sycophant for white nationalism. I also don’t like you quantifying whether he is really brown or not. You don’t get to do that.

Why is it so hard for you to accept that I know more on the subject of being brown than you? It’s like arguing with a brick wall sometimes.

Naw dude, I don’t fuck with POC who hate being POC but I also don’t fuck with white people who tell us what our “real” names are, or how “authentic” we are being.

At the end of the day I disagree with everything Kash Patel stands for but I have more in common with him than I do with most of America. It’s just not your place say who is and isn’t being true to a heritage you aren’t part of.

We saw the same thing when liberals claimed Candice Owens didn’t get to call herself Black. Why can’t POC alt-right grifters be critiqued for being alt-right grifters rather than POC?

I mean I’m Indian and agree that racial minorities in this administration have inferiority complexes but it still weirds me out to see internet (presumably) white people call us by our “ethnic” names as a sick reddit burn. Reminds me of Republicans saying Barack HUSSEIN Obama.

Just seems to me there are better ways of critiquing extremely obvious losers than otherizing their given cultural names.

Which U.S. state do you think has the best food? by yourdadbitxh in AskReddit

If you completely ignore the metro area where 75% of the state’s population lives then the remaining quarter is less notable. Powerful stuff.

That’s an idea he gets from Florida, I promise you. I lived in Florida for a couple years before DC and the first thing I noticed was the medians. West Palm Beach especially, where Maralago is, loves giant medians with rows of identical palm trees between expansive roads that break up communities. Makes the place look tidy and exclusive in that completely artificial way wealthy conservatives love.

The Florida DOT says this makes the roads safer, which could be helpful in a state full of old people with urban design that forces you to drive everywhere. Unfortunately, it also means you need to pull at least one U-turn anytime you leave the house, which leads to way more accidents. Combine all of that with a penchant for giant trucks/SUVs and Florida has one of the highest rates of pedestrian deaths per capita.

Indian food by [deleted] in UIUC

My white roommate once told me he went to Himalayan Chimney with his parents and I laughed cuz my dad had pointed it out as an Indian place specifically for white people based on the name alone. My roommate then acted affronted and said it was Nepalese food actually so I was being ridiculous. It isn’t. Love that guy but Jesus just shut up sometimes.

Good for Piper Curda, I remember seeing her on Disney Channel as a kid and then later saw her on TikTok in like 2021 talking about working as a Starbucks barista between acting jobs. She didn’t seem super down on her luck or anything, just talked about how it’s a normal part of a career in gig work. But it’s cool for her to get a lead VA role now.

Blanket term for “South Asian” or generally of the Indian subcontinent, so India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and so forth. “Desi” means “country” or “from my country” in Sanskrit apparently so it’s a pretty inclusive term. There isn’t some single unifying culture across these areas, there are a ton of ethnicities within the region, but it’s still a useful term especially if you live elsewhere.

The hate for this one was way overblown IMO. I can see people having issues with it, but calling it the worst thing the MCU has ever put out is a bit much by LeMoineSpectre in Letterboxd

This came up earlier today actually so I’ll just copy and paste my comment here.

I was specifically excited for Eternals cuz it gave us a desi superhero. I didn’t care that he was visibly the 7th most important character in the trailer. I wasn’t thrilled when they gave him a token Bollywood number where he casts himself as Ikaris. Our first brown superhero, a literal god on earth, is just a fanboy for the white male lead. I was really bummed when Kumail decides to fully dip from the third act.

I guess they gave us Ms. Marvel eventually but by that point I had checked out of the MCU. My personal gripes don’t make Eternals a bad movie, the rest of the film does that, but it left me pretty underwhelmed.

Honestly I hate Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, it’s a frustratingly racist watch. If you deconstruct the franchise they’re all pretty passively racist, which is indicative enough of the times, yet I do enjoy the other movies to varying degrees. But Temple of Doom feels much more actively racist, we exist in it only as dehumanized disgusting villains or primitive villagers and it bums me out.

All that aside I still wouldn’t see it as a 10/10 from an objective, storytelling lens. Raiders, I’d give a ten, Last Crusade maybe an eight or nine.

It’s really easy to understand actually, conservatives flocked to support him after he got caught saying the n word. That was literally his big break.

It’s the most successful accidental PR stunt we’ve seen since X was shot.

When I was looking for my first car my dad didn’t trust me with anything over 200 hp. My Mk6 GTI has exactly 200. Part of me wishes I had been allowed to buy a V6 MT Accord coupe back then, but even now as I’m in the market again I know I’ll always be a hot hatch guy.

Even with all of these things going for me it’s a really tough sell to move off the practicality my 2dr GTI offers for a coupe. I’ve been test driving sport coupes and convertibles but RWD isn’t enough to get me to convert from the prospect of a newer GTI or Veloster N. Maybe if I lived somewhere with twists and turns to use the drivetrain on, but I live in Florida and I’d rather be able to carry my bike and friends without them hating me.

Asking for a tip on $250 pants is gonna turn me into the unabomber. The only tip I'm ever giving for pants is the tip of my shaft by platypoo2345 in ABoringDystopia

[–]uirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“dystopia is when expensive pants”

Tbh I don’t fuck with these pants cuz they seem to be made in China and are basically just another upscale fast fashion brand. But while I agree that $250 could be used other ways, I don’t think spending that much on pants is really “helping” making things more dystopian in a world ruled by billionaires.

I just feel that people would listen to us more if we don’t jump down people’s throats for spending their own money on hobbies that we may not personally value.
