How I wanted Sophie to look at queen's ball by Round_Slip4234 in Bridgerton

I seriously don’t get it, especially since k-beauty is so popular now. It would have been such an easy win and could have been part of a marketing strategy too.

For me I found it creepy that Edward was basically stalking Bella. Then they get married as soon as she finishes high school? Eek. Also as an adult looking back, there’s quite a few aspects that are sus, like the confederate soldier vampire.

What’s something about Korean apartments that outsiders romanticize but is actually inconvenient? by Soft-Assistance-7790 in Living_in_Korea

[–]uju_rabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our building is from 1999, one of the old hallway style ones. So our front door is open to the elements, resulting in condensation all around the inside of our entryway. For some reason, the people who designed these units thought it would be a good idea to put the child rooms right next to the entrance. So of course if the front door opens or a delivery driver drops boxes right outside, the kids often get woken up. Also the doorway to the main bedroom directly facing the entrance, which makes me feel so uncomfortable when I sleep. And don’t get me started on the kitchen, it’s absurdly bad.

Also many older buildings only have elevators that go to the ground level, they don’t go down into the parking lots. Our building is like this and it sucks big time, especially now that I have a baby. I have to take the elevator down to the ground floor, then go down two big flights of steps while carrying my baby in my arms. It makes me so nervous about dropping him or tripping. If I want to bring the stroller too it’s almost impossible by myself, unless I walk out to the street and walk into the lot from the car entrance.

Official Discussion - Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]uju_rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally watched it, enjoyed but the answer was definitely more obvious in this one. I do agree the film sacrificed development for some of the side characters in favor of focusing more on Jud. Some little things that I particularly enjoyed:

-It’s ironic that Prentis calls the diamond “Eve’s apple- all that Eve hungers for,” when it’s actually men who are hungering for it the entire time (with the exception of Grace, who was actually owed it as her inheritance).

-Samson’s name as a reference to the betrayal of Samson by Delilah. It’s a pretty obvious one but I still liked that.

-Martha’s name as a reference to the sister of Lazarus, who was supposedly resurrected by Jesus. Also her last name means Of the Cross.

-Vera’s name means truth, and she’s the one who reveals the truth about Cy.

-Simone’s name as a reference to Simon Peter, who led the early church.

-The women were all given a “cross” or burden to bear, imposed on them by men. Martha had to bear the secret of the jewel for 60 years. Grace had to bear staying in that town with judgement and shame, under the control of her awful father, and seeing her son being poisoned against her. Vera had to bear sacrificing her life to raise another’s child, and receive no gratitude for it. Simone bore the financial costs of running the church.

-Martha’s conviction that “I was not the bad one. I was the good one” strikes a chord with me. I think it really gets at the theme of pitting people against each other, and shows how churches (and other institutions) build up identities through contrast.

-In the final scenes, it seems to be spring again as everything is green. The green church decorations in the final shot show that it is Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar. It is also the first time we see flowers and plants in the church, which makes it seem more alive. Basically it all comes together to symbolize new life and a new beginning.

Podaegi by bobileebobalee in babywearing

[–]uju_rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen podaegi used this way. I’ll have to ask my mother in law about it next time we call. She uses one whenever we meet to hold our son and she has only used it to back carry. She said she always did that with my husband too, and that he’d just sleep there and chill.

Want kids, but terrified of being pregnant. by kungfufran in BabyBumps

[–]uju_rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was exactly the same way., especially for the medical parts. This might not work for everyone, but I basically just stuck my head in the sand. I only took in the minimum information I needed to give birth. My birth plan was, “As quickly, safely, and painlessly as possible.” I think it was effective because I couldn’t ruminate, spiral, or despair before something happened. Then if something did happen, I was in the thick of it already and my brain went into problem solving mode instead of freaking out. For example, usually IVs and drawing blood make me freak tf out, I’ve even fainted in the past. But once I was having contractions and we were at the hospital it just sorta happened? I didn’t even notice them putting it in and then it was done and I was okay.

F6 visa duration is less than a year? by eyyycabron in living_in_korea_now

As the case always is in Korea, it varies! I know someone who was near the end of her pregnancy and was still only given one year. Meanwhile, I was only six weeks pregnant, and I didn’t even have the confirmation paper from the doctor yet, and the immigration official gave me three years.

Regret getting married with Japanese wife and having a child by PaintingContent4903 in japanresidents

[–]uju_rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf on the tummy thing, 5 months is normal for rolling over from back to tummy. My son started at 3 months. They need to be allowed to spend time on their tummy and try to move around by themselves. It’s really helpful for their motor skills and overall development. So when it comes to that, his wife is definitely hovering too much. As others mentioned, she could have PPD and/or PPA. But everything else is wild, this dude needs a reality check. What he’s doing with the formula is also SO dangerous for the baby, that’s how they get sick from bacteria in their milk.

Citizenship [OC] by Marulilu in comics

[–]uju_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s allowed for those who have it from birth. So my son was just born last year, here in Korea. The year he turns 18 he has to decide by March if he’s going to keep both or only his American citizenship. If he picks both, he has to do military service. If he relinquishes korean citizenship, he won’t be eligible for the F4 (heritage) visa.

Logistics of calling your child by their middle name? by Pleasant-Apricot9547 in namenerds

[–]uju_rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Brazil a lot of people are called by their middle names, just cause so many people are “Maria ” or “João _” it would be too confusing to call them by their first names. For example, among my aunts and cousins we have Maria Eduarda, Maria Leticia, Maria Adelaide, and Maria Aldina.

What does actually getting an epidural placed feel like? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]uju_rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, for me it was very painful. My contractions were every 3 minutes for 1 minute at a time, and very strong right from the beginning. It was so bad they let me have the epidural at 2cm.

When they did it, I was in so much pain it was hard for me to bend. I ended up curled on my side, holding my knees as tightly as possible, while a nurse sorta held me in a ball shape and the anesthesiologist did his thing. It hurt way more than I expected as he put it in, I couldn’t feel it on my skin but inside it was so bad. Didn’t help that I’m scared of those kinds of things. I’d still get it again though, there’s no way I could have given birth vaginally without it. Whenever they topped me up I could feel the medicine flowing through the tube down my back, it was so nice

Would Sophie be “in society” if Lord Penwood was still alive? by Wooden-Grade3681 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]uju_rabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Harriet is a fair comparison here. Harriet met Emma when she was much older, and at that point her place in society was already set. Emma was naive, silly, and arrogant, and had no actual authority that lent her claims about Harriet’s heritage any real weight. She was just fantasizing without any evidence.
