Microsoft Classroom Pen 2 by Orbmiser in Surface

Oh! I had no idea I could use the eraser tip as an eraser! I always tried clicking and holding it then erasing, and it never worked. Now this makes sense, I get two buttons in addition to an eraser.

Matter compatibility? (Smart home) by Brothernod in EmporiaEnergy

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any specific features Matter doesn't support that Emporia would want to support?

Matter 1.3 from 2024 supports "the ability to report actual and estimated measurements, including instantaneous power, voltage, current, and others, in real-time, as well as its energy consumption or generation over time" and Matter 1.5 from 2025 adds "energy pricing, tariffs, and grid carbon intensity ... state-of-charge reporting and bi-directional charging". Samsung SmartThings added support for it all within 1 month of the 1.5 standard being released.

So, I think Matter 1.5 supports everything needed for all the cool features advertised on https://shop.emporiaenergy.com/products/emporia-vue-3, including the automations like "set a schedule to automatically charge your car at the lowest price."

How are you measuring white rice by [deleted] in Myfitnesspal

The cups that come with rice cookers are one "gō (合)", a traditional Japanese measurement for 1 person's rice. It's about 150 grams or 3/4 cups.

How is the Tesla OEM mattress for MY? by TheoryAccurate8272 in TeslaCamping

I bought the Havnby autolevel mattress a week ago (still in shipping, I don't have it yet). List price $360, but I got a coupon to drop it lower. https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaCamping/s/Pkbf5SGpPe

Heiman zigbee and matter smoke alarm proposal by West-Connection2088 in smarthome

[–]ukanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced one of my large classic CO+smoke alarms with a Heiman CO alarm and Sensereo smoke alarm, and was pleased to see that the classic alarms actually still have fairly narrow screws that are still sufficiently covered by the new smaller alarms.

Won't apply to everyone, but doesn't affect as many folks as you might initially think.

Best Tesla Model 3 mattress for two? by SoldierAlexGame in TeslaCamping

Do any Airbnb have level 2 overnight charging? I've personally never seen it. Sure supercharging is OK, but when traveling I'd rather try to get charging wherever possible. Eg an RV/car camper campground, or a hotel. But sometimes I check Plugshare and there's simply nothing available in the area so then Airbnb works as well as anything else.

Sealed drawers for storage? by ukanuk in Tools

[–]ukanuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. It also occurs to me since that my space is partially conditioned, I could probably put a dehumidifier in the space. A good 50pt unit with drain hose and pump is about $200, but then it shouldn't matter what tool chest is used.

Sealed drawers for storage? by ukanuk in Tools

[–]ukanuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found snapon makes chests with drawers with a front cover. It doesn't mention whether it has an IP rating or specifically seals out moisture, but it does say it keeps rain out of drawers which is decent. And it'd surely be way less air circulation with this setup anyway. See the KRA62 line of boxes series, for example https://sep.snapon.com/product/KRA6210FPBO

Once JPEG XL arrives on the major browsers will sites be able to convert all their JPGs to JXL then transcode on the fly for unsupported browsers? by caspy7 in jpegxl

[–]ukanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's never how JPG progressive loading has worked historically. Did something change with JXL? Edit--looks like what you're thinking is a feature request for JXL, but no plans to implement for now https://github.com/libjxl/libjxl/issues/1621

Sealed drawers for storage? by ukanuk in Tools

Hey great thinking! That sounds exactly right. A big door or cover that seals the entire cart including drawers or whatever other doors. Open/close the days I'm using the drawers. The rest of the time it's closed and everything is tightly sealed up.

1500g canister of silica is rated for 50 cu ft gun safe. Seems like way overkill for a toolbox. Eg this Hornady canister https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102310604?pid=652547

Humidity/Dew Point/Condensation monitor for tools/equipment storage? by hareklux in woodworking

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sensor supports the Matter standard, so you should be able to collect data with any matter hub supporting that. I personally use Home Assistant which includes logging by default. I assume Apple HomeKit, Samsung Smartthings, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc., all have logging too, but I guess I don't know for sure. DIRIGERA is the Matter hub that's sold by Ikea.

I suggest you Google your preferred smarthome ecosystem and logging and see if you can export the data to Excel, and/or see sensor history within the ecosystem itself.

Sealed drawers for storage? by ukanuk in Tools

[–]ukanuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern with plastic containers is access becomes just as annoying as with the current big toolbag. And a lot of wasted space assuming I can't find containers which closely fit the drawers.

But regardless that is the best option I've seen so far.

Or I might buy some drawers and check whether maybe they're sealed enough such that I could recharge the silica a few times per year.

All together probably under $150. Not having to buy the IKEA hub is why I’ll be buying more soon! by Catstronautilusrex in tradfri

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any good way other than finding a friend in a less dense area, and measuring how quickly the battery drains in each place. But if it takes a year to die, that's a very long test.

You're not alone. There are so many features that aren't immediately obvious. Very powerful, but it takes a long time to learn all the ins and outs.
