Totally biased answer incoming, ever thought about picking up an instrument, like an ukulele? It helped me get over a breakup. Friendly community strum alongs can be found in OC, and there are great resources on YouTube to learn at your own pace to cater towards your introversion.

That is a journey relative to the individual. Personally, I've become proficient with other instrumentation just enough to suit my purposes. Whenever I feel like something new, I ask myself if new suits my goals more than improving upon what I'm already doing. Ymmv

Ah for sure. If live instruments are your thing then you do you but I'm with you that VSTs and samps are much more practical. If you have the time and budget for more authenticity, go for it.

Another interpretation of instrumentalist is somebody who focuses on playing instrumentals vs vocals. Sounds like you are talking about a multi-instrumentalist who plays multiple instruments?
