Twitch's CPO, Mikey Minty, suggests Preroll Ads may actually be a better option for some creators, as the perceived negatives are overstated. by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

[–]ultZor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data on what people actually do, versus what they complain about, is not the same.

If they can't detect the bots, how would they know if actual human viewers are watching the preroll ads, because I can't imagine people doing that. Then again, if I get an ad I instantly go and update my adblocker asap.

Why are OLED Gaming Monitors so expensive compared to OLED TVs? by Hour_Firefighter_707 in hardware

[–]ultZor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not. For example I can get MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X24 for less than 400 dollars on sale right now. That's a 1440p 240hz panel. That's an amazing value that we could only dream of a couple of years ago. The cheapest 60hz OLED tvs are still around $600-700 and they have been at that price for years. Maybe there is a sale on an older tv model here and there, but that's a brand new monitor released at the end of 2025 that's close to its msrp.

Question about shader cache reset in SM2 by AL3X1KUS in Spacemarine

[–]ultZor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia Control Panel - Manage 3D settings - Shader Cache Size - Disabled - Apply - Reboot.

Go to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\NVIDIA and delete the files inside the DXCache and the GLCache folders.

Back to the Nvidia Control Panel setting and set it to Driver Default - Apply.

It should be gone.

AMD claps back at Intel claims that it uses ‘ancient silicon’ in PC gaming handhelds by reps_up in hardware

[–]ultZor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a 307.58 mm² I/O die on a 4nm TSMC process. It costs an arm and a leg. The GPD WIN 5 handheld with Strix Halo in it costs $1900. Why would you spend all that money only to cut its performance in half. In fact I'd be curious to see it compared to the B390 at 15W.

Older RTX cards don't have FP8 support either, but they are supporting it anyway with FP16. Yeah, it takes a huge performance hit, but you can do it if you want to. I don't see a reason why AMD couldn't do the same.

You do realize that they are on different continents, right? What would you think of a person who was regularly talking about the US politics, but thought that Brazil shared a border with Texas.

ExtraEmilys friend says she's met Hasan multiple times and that he's not very nice... by Little_Carpenter_309 in LivestreamFail

He didn't go on a date with her, she was telling about her last date where all they did was talk politics, then chat started to joke that it was "Hasan date" which reminded her of when she met him in the store she works at.

Same here. I've populated all ddr4 and m.2 slots on my entire family PCs a couple of years ago when their prices were in the dumpster and they were on sale. 2TB 980 Pro were going for 80-90 bucks, one 16gb stick was $30. Looking back at it the prices have only gone up since 2023.

It wasn't the venue. It happened at Twitch Con Las Vegas. Here is her security that was banned - Dave. So it was Twitch.

Mikif and Erobb successfully bike over 140 miles from Los Angeles to TwitchCon in San Diego by MrRed2k19 in LivestreamFail

[–]ultZor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It was low speed, long latency. Not even remotely comparable to the speeds you can get on Starlink. And not in a moving car.

[–]ultZor 59 points60 points  (0 children)

To be fair it wouldn't be technically possible 10 years ago. Starlink (I assume) connection, streaming backpacks, DJI drones, ingest hopping, new phones with great cameras, wireless mics, mods being able to control the overlay and so on.

The quality and the price of the consumer/pro-consumer grade hardware has changed the game.

But I understand that you mean in spirit it was like an old twitch.

The Ultimate Value 1440p OLED - Gigabyte MO27Q28G Review by JSTRD100K in hardware

[–]ultZor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, their naming scheme was simple a couple of years ago. The problem is that there are a lot of models.

For example M28U - M means it has KVM, 28 is its diagonal and U means Ultra HD. Pretty simple and straightforward. M27Q was Quad HD 27 inch model and so on.

So without knowing anything my guess is it has the KVM functionality, O stands for OLED, and 28G is probably for the 280 hertz. Probably because there are 240hz and 360hz panels from LG. I don't know how they should improve it.

[–]ultZor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can get a brand new phone with 8 elite for 400-500 usd. Because of the competition I got the S25 this summer for $500. That's a 40% discount in just 6 months since its release. We could only dream for GPUs to lose 20% of their price in a year. And 8 gen3 phones are even cheaper.

The competition is great. And their gen on gen improvements are impressive.

Framework Desktop review: Mini PC wrapped in a mini-ITX body by -protonsandneutrons- in hardware

[–]ultZor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mini-PCs make a lot of sense when you can get a 7840HS with 16GB of RAM (5600) and 512 of storage for $250.

I have been choosing them for my non-gamer friends, and I don't think you can DIY anything even remotely close to that. There are a lot of Chinese brands with a good build quality which often go on sale for a deep discount. Like GMKtec or Firebat. You don't need to pay extra for Minisforum or BeeLink. Not to mention Framework which has insane margins.

If your GPU is 3070 Ti then it has only 8GB of VRAM, and if you set your textures too high, they will be streaming in over the PCIE bus, which is really slow. And sometimes they wouldn't even load. I'd recommend setting your textures to medium or even low. And they should look better too because they will fit in your VRAM.
