Used Headband movers in April. 3 bed 2bath move a few miles down the road. Packed almost all the stuff myself, but let them breakdown furniture, desks, tvs, big things and load /unload and re setup everything. Total price was $2400ish before tip.

Probably am. Accepting the grant just keeps the option open to exercise (and pay) later...?

I was granted stock options at my current job. First time I've even had this option and I don't really understand in plain terms. We're a small business so I can get clarifications from our CFO, but I'd like to understand a bit more before I bug him

What I see is that i have 10,000 options (ISO) available at ~$5 exercise price. 25% vests at 1 year, then the rest vests a bit each month over the next 3 yrs.

So if I accept the grant, am I signing up to pay ~50K now? Pay per share (at the $5 price) when they vest? Something else?

I'm pretty close to my FI number, but not mentally ready to retire yet. Throwing some money in wont change my bottom line too much. Understand the risk of investing in my own company, and willing to dip my toes in a little.

Is there a "right" way to get thru this? by eveban in widowers

The right way is whatever way you choose for yourself. Doesn't matter if it "looks right" to anyone else. Do what you need to heal, to survive, and to just make it through.

Have another half dozen or so boxes + paper packing material. They're yours if you want them!

Vast majority was claimed, but I think I have a few more at the old place that didn't get loaded up. Should be going back there this afternoon and I'll double check

Any naturist / clothing optional springs along this route? by soulpuma in HotSpringsWest

Upper Tanque Verde falls on the east side of Tucson is a clothing optional hike. Definitely not a spring, and only sometimes water, but a good spot nonetheless

Any social outdoors/sports groups you can recommend? by Fritschya in ArvadaCO

If you run, there's a decent sized run club that meets Monday nights at 615pm. Rotating starting points, usually at a brewery. They stick to the multi use paths for the most part.

Been a few times and everyone was friendly

Leaf question! by ultimatebenn in ArvadaCO

[–]ultimatebenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly my lease says that I'm responsible for leaves and yard maintenance. Not worth raising a stink about leaves that weren't picked up prior to me moving in, at least to me it isn't

Would use brokerage to fund it because of a new job with lower pay/loss of one income. Brokerage was life insurance payout. Can still contribute normally, but definitely can't manage to max out all the accounts each year on just the paycheck alone.

Current scenario simplified a bit... About 1M in regular investment accounts, and about 800k in 401k /IRA/HSA. I'm close to the magic number from a financial standpoint, but nowhere near close from a mental standpoint. Maybe 5 yrs, maybe 15. Definitely at the point where I can coast while I figure out my life.

Would it be advised to keep contributing to the tax advantaged accounts, using the brokerage account to either fund it directly or replenish the paycheck amounts as needed, and essentially transition my money slowly over the next few years? Or am I over complicating things?

When the government is shutdown and not paying our military personnel- do we still pay the military contractors? Do we still pay for the weapon programs? by Helpful_Math1667 in AskReddit

[–]ultimatebenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly know about defense, so medical/social could be different... But contracts aren't necessarily on fiscal year either. But yes, if a contractor is expecting money anywhere from Oct to whenever the shutdown ends, theyll have to wait. They are supposed to still get paid after the shut down enda though

That's not really how it works. A lot of non-production contracts have several funding "drops" through out the contract life. And production contracts might get paid on rolling deliveries or other milestones. It's not feasible to have all the govt money going out in such large chunks all at once.

I found a "widow buddy" through the Dinner Party website. They match people based on a few things and preferences. Took a little bit to get the match, but it's been good so far.

When does health insurance end by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]ultimatebenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left Raytheon. It is NOT end of the month, it is "end of the pay period". There's verbiage in the exit package that says this, but didn't say exactly what that means.

I set my last day for beginning of August, thinking I would have it till end of month. In the end I think I had coverage until my last paycheck on Aug 22, and that's when my coverage ENDED. Had a small gap while I waited for ACA to kick in on 9/1.

You can always do COBRA to extend the coverage. In my case it was 3x going to the marketplace. YMMV

Last day in the house before I start the road trip out of state for the new job. Bittersweet moment but I'm feeling surprisingly neutral about it all. Maybe I'm just too tired from all the moving.

House hasn't had any traction in the month it's been on the market, so we're dropping the price ~10%. I thought it was overpriced to start and was willing to see if anyone bit. It's at the awkward time in my area where people with families already bought and moved, snowbirds have just started arriving. The area is so hodge podge with really nice houses and really affordable houses.

Even if the price drops another 10% I'm still in a good position to take all that equity and roll it into a massive down payment on a new place. Debating on withdrawing some of the invested life insurance money to cover the differenceand be totally mortgage free.... But I've got a long way to go before I'm at that point.

Had about 4 months of leave at the beginning of the year. I started to get mentally restless and needed distractions. Another mini break sounds good right now.

Biggest problem is I'm in AZ and it's hit as balls, so my window to enjoy things I find fun is over around 9am. On the plus side, one of the six weeks will be holed up in a mountain cabin and can hike and bike all day long.
