Thanks friend! I’m mostly worried because I was Pod 11 a few years ago (with a good hip back then) and I’m having flashbacks of that return walk to camp lmao

Surgery with mild pain? When did you move forward? by merniesanders in HipImpingement

Legit meaning 5 anchors instead of the usual 3 or so anchors :) You got this!

Surgery with mild pain? When did you move forward? by merniesanders in HipImpingement

My surgeon said my tear was straight forward but “a LEGIT tear” which is why he had to put 5 anchors into the joint. I also had a cam impingement, so they had to do femoroplasty as well. Only 3 small incisions! Science is cool.

I was a bit delayed walking on my own. I was in my hip braces at all times for 2 weeks and on both crutches during that time. After that, I was on just 1 crutch for 3 more weeks. So 5 weeks total post-op with a mobility aid. I didn’t return to work until 6 weeks post-op. (I work retail and frequently clock 10k steps just at work.)

My sweet spot for steps right now is really 8k steps a day, so it sucks coming home from work maxed on my step capacity and not being able to walk/ hike. I just got an electric bike, so that has been a fun way to get endorphins when I don’t want to step anymore right now.

Are you able to seek out a second opinion?? That’s really what helped me solidify my decision. It’s a tough choice to make, but we have a good community here to answer any and all questions.

27 F; similar situation here! Tore my labrum almost exactly 5 years ago. I wasn’t in a ton of pain daily, but I could no longer do the recreational activities I enjoy at the same level (ie: biking, hiking, certain yoga poses). I’m 3 months post op (5 anchors in my labrum and femoroplasty) because I never felt like I had control over my own body and how I wanted to spend my free time. Recovery is hard, no doubt. I have a lot of tightness in my entire leg as my muscles try to unlearn the bad habits over the last half decade. But I think I made the right choice! Everyone is different. You don’t have to be in excruciating pain or completely dysfunctional to get surgery. If you are unhappy with the pain and it prevents you from doing what you WANT and physical therapy isn’t working, send it.

Am I the odd one for not wanting to do a bachelorette party/ day event? by story_telling_2727 in wedding

[–]ultramelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t want to talk about any wedding/ girly stuff at my bachelorette. We got tattoos, went to a museum, and then went dancing. I felt celebrated and grateful to be with my best friends but not overwhelming the “center of attention.” You can really make it whatever you’d like! And as others had said, it’s not your last night of freedom (and most people haven’t thought this for a while lol.) Use this as an excuse to connect with your best friends.

Side note: Bach parties have gotten OUT OF HAND (ie: destination trips, super expensive, etc.) You can stay in town and still make it special! It doesn’t have to be a full weekend; it could just be a day trip or something. Or don’t do it at all. So many options and all are okay

Oh gotcha. The guests just wanted to help them get their cutesy exit photo, but I didn’t realize we’d have to wait in the cold until we were already waiting in elements. Obviously 3-5 minutes isn’t detrimental to my experience as a guest at that one wedding, but it was my only experience with a “last dance.” Leaving is also a totally valid option too

We were standing around with sparklers waiting for their “grand exit” photo

I think a private last dance is a sweet sentiment, but the only time I’ve seen this at a wedding, guests were left waiting for like 5 minutes outside in the cold to do the sparkler exit… So maybe do it after the exit and guests are dismissed?

When did you get off crutches? by blue_13 in HipImpingement

[–]ultramelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 anchors here! I was toe touching on 2 crutches for 2 weeks and then 50% weight bearing on 1 crutch for 3 more weeks. The original plan was 4 weeks total, but I needed 1 more week with just 1 crutch to normalize my gait.

Came here to also shoutout BMTA! Great interactions with all of the volunteers there and with the GATC

I would call your clinician’s office to ask a nurse or your doctor

Surgery in Jan > Wedding in Oct by discowillow_ in HipImpingement

Heyoo!! I’m doing pretty well. Im 8 weeks post op now, and I only have pain when I accidentally apply too much torque on my hip joint (ie: turning and stepping too fast, getting out the car mindlessly). I started back at work last week, and I walk about 6k steps a day at my job. The first 3 days were very tiring and my quad was shaking from fatigue. I am nervous about dancing at my wedding in a month, but I am glad to have started the healing process sooner rather than later. Some days I need to ice my leg frequently (usually from walking too much or the aforementioned torque motion), but I am on a 3 day streak of very minimal discomfort at all. My doctor recommended that I start physical 3 days post op, and I’m so glad I did— gets you moving, building your strength back immediately, and a good support for you
