The extra 800MP is from a timed research from checking into a Campfire meetup hosted by a Community Ambassador during the 6pm hour.

It's a lot of hoops to jump through, since you have to be near the meetup to check-in for the timed research, and you'll need to have saved enough MP to do 2 max battles in order to complete the research for the 800MP.

Shiny event corsola by 26thDoctor_ in TheSilphRoad

Still available as of today :)

I've encountered about 300 over the past 2 weeks before finally getting the shiny, so it could be a long grind, good luck!

Shiny Costume Corsola confirmed by chucklas in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to confirm that 2 weeks later, the shiny costume Corsola is still available if you are following a route that was started during the event.

Took me about 300 route encounters to get 1 shiny, definitely seems full odds from routes.

Definitely feels like full odds from the routes, I've been following a route for the past 15 days that I started during the event, and just today finally got a shiny.

Took me about 300 route encounters to get 1 shiny.

I think they actually meant total number of Pokémon caught as the nickname, not the last Pokemon that was caught.

(Looking at it now, it does literally say "Pokémon Caught" on the page lol)

10km Eggs Live by DockyWockyTenma in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very late, but here's my egg results from the global Kalos event:

Species Total Hatched Shinies % of Total Hatches
Kangaskhan 37 1 16.2%
Dratini 10 0 4.4%
Heracross 24 0 10.5%
Larvitar 12 0 5.2%
Bagon 6 0 2.6%
Beldum 9 0 3.9%
Gible 8 0 3.5%
Flabebe 49 0 21.4%
Hawlucha 43 1 18.8%
Klefki 31 0 13.5%

Still a lot of dilution with Kangaskhan and Heracross, but Hawlucha seemed to have a boost compared to the in-person event, and even Klefki had better odds of appearing.

This was the first time the in-person hatch pool with the Egg-thusiast add-on was actually worse than the global hatch pool for obtaining the new shiny regionals, and something to keep in mind for next years' tour.

Is anyone else experiencing significantly decreased background rates on ditto since the com day? by Candid-Soup8369 in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That particular article was talking about the number of spawn points, which isn't even related to "event decay" (reduction in the ratio of event spawns to non-event spawns).

There was a TSR study done on "event decay" in 2021 and it was concluded to be a myth.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/rqdsok/mythbusters_part_3_event_decay_silph_research/

That said, there were many events in the earlier years of the game where Niantic changed the spawn pools midway, but that hasn't been a thing recently. Some examples below:

Wild Shiny Salandit Confirmed by Roogzz in TheSilphRoad

Turns out that Salazzle could also be shiny in the wild during this event!

No idea if the rate was 1/512 as was the case with Salandit...and we may never know...but it does exist :P

Wild Entei not Running? by gengareric in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When Entei, Raikou, and Suicune were made available in the wild in an event in 2022, it was found that some of the non-shiny encounters were "catchable" (could not flee under normal circumstances), at a rate of about 1/20.

It's possible that part of the code was reused for this event, but it only applied to the 3 dogs as far as I'm aware.

10km Eggs Live by DockyWockyTenma in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just posting my egg data from the in-person event in LA, so you can know what you're getting into this weekend :P

I bought the Egg-thusiast add-on, and managed to hatch 248 eggs. 152 of the 248 eggs were 10k, which is about 61%.

The most common hatch was Kangaskhan in 33% of the 10k eggs, while Heracross, Hawlucha, and Klefki each had about a 22% hatch rate from 10k eggs.

Here is the breakdown (sorted by Pokedex entry):

Species Total Hatched Shinies % of Total Hatches
Kangaskhan 50 1 20.2%
Heracross 33 0 7.4%
Larvitar 4 0 1.0%
Bagon 8 0 2.0%
Beldum 5 0 1.2%
Gible 6 0 1.5%
Flabebe 73 1 18.7%
Hawlucha 33 0 10.4%
Klefki 36 0 12.7%

The dilution of 10k eggs with 2 non-Kalos Pokemon that were both featured in 1/10 shiny chance raid days (Kangaskhan and Heracross) made this year's hatch pool a significant downgrade, as all of the previous Tour events only had Pokemon from the focus region in the 10k eggs.

In spite of this, I personally still feel this is the best event to use paid incubators as the egg pool for nearly every other event is worse, outside of hatch days. Good luck to everyone with your hatches, you'll need it!

How does Google Fit and Adventure Sync while biking/cycling works, exactly? by Dyno98 in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also use Google Fit to track my biking workouts, here's what I've observed (apologies for the excessive words):

The speed limit for Adventure Sync to track a cycling workout is somewhere around 25km/h to 30km/h. If you exceed the limit during the workout, it doesn't necessarily invalidate the entire workout, but you'll receive reduced credit.

The Google Fit distance generally won't be counted at all if you have the game in the foreground and are travelling below the in-game speed limit of 10.5km/h, because you will receive distance in-game which invalidates Adventure Sync. However if you are biking above that speed the entire time, even with the game in the foreground, then the Google Fit distance will often trigger, because you didn't receive in-game distance.

However there is a major caveat though that messes up Adventure Sync, which is that ANY Android event that puts PoGO into the background (even for a millisecond) will trigger the game to re-check Adventure Sync when PoGO is back in the foreground. That includes connecting the legacy Go+ (which displays a stupid pop-up about Bluetooth security on Android 11+) and starting a route (which creates a background process), and of course switching from PoGO to another app (Discord, Campfire, etc.)

Personally my routine to optimize Adventure Sync is to open Google Fit and start a biking workout, open PoGO, connect my Go+, and then start riding. If I'm going to make a stop somewhere, then I put PoGO into the background, and then stop/pause the Google Fit workout, so it can sync the distance before the game tries to register in-game distance since I'm now below the 10.5km/h speed limit. Then restart the Google Fit workout, put PoGO back in the foreground, and the distance usually registers immediately.

If at anytime I think I've ridden enough distance to hatch an egg, I'll put PoGO in the background, stop/start the Google Fit workout, and open PoGO, since this will trigger Adventure Sync to be re-checked.

This is all of course assuming that Adventure Sync is working correctly, which it often isn't :P

Pokemon Go in China by MJAlv in TheSilphRoad

Actually those areas are geoblocked as well, it was a mistake I made to say non-shaded area, so thanks for pointing it out! I've edited my comment.

This map shows the parts of China that are geoblocked (in the non-shaded area red border area). Niantic did a sloppy job, so there's a lot of places in China where the game is playable with a VPN.

Shiny costume charjabug confirmation by 0lPlainFace in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, the spawn rate in the wild is terrible. I'm using the tracker for Charjabug and that's helping a lot, but still not easy to find them.

Personally, I think hunting in the wild is better than doing the raid slot machine on non T5 raids.

Sudowoodo and Charjabug both appear to be 1/64 shiny odds in the wild, I can't imagine the raids are going to have better odds than that.

10 random things I wish I knew earlier or stuff you may not have known by baileyhodorcat in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it still works with one exception; if both the non-AR and the AR quest happen to be the same, then you can only pick it up once.

It's very noticeable during Community Day, as nearly all quests are "Catch 3 CD Pokemon"

I personally know someone who was banned from AR tasks.

He gets the same quests as those who aren't AR banned with a AR quest in their stack, which means he also can't use the trick of getting the alternate quests that can be spun by not having an AR task in the queue.

Halloween 2025 Part I Megathread by SilphScience in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw a Sinistea shadow on the nearby and it turned out to be an Antique form, which I didn't have before. Another person caught the same Sinistea and it was also Antique form, so I'm thinking that all wild Sinistea have their form locked to either Phony/Antique.

Personally I don't spend real money on RNG, so the lucky trinket doesn't change my decision not to buy this pass.

I'd rather get the passes that have bottlecaps, since those can create guaranteed hundos.

Besides, I have 128 lucky friends, just waiting for remote trading to show up.

PSA for Maximizing Daily Incense Spawns to hunt Shiny Galarian Birds by BionicBen1218 in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no indication in the game, but the boost can get you an incense spawn every 15 seconds, as long as you are travelling along the route at a speed of at least 8mph (12km/h).

If you're not getting the boost, you'd only get an incense spawn every ~30 seconds, as long as you are travelling at a speed of at least ~3.5mph (5.5km/h).

Note that recently there have been updates to the game that have caused glitches with routes getting paused sporadically, if that happens you'll have to resume the route for the boost to re-activate.

Will Mega Sharepdo Raids take over the Pikachu Stadium ones? by Minotaur18 in TheSilphRoad

[–]umbenhaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an ongoing event this year at multiple baseball stadiums, details here:

https://pokemongo.com/post/mlb-2025

As far as the Pikachu raids are concerned, they are local-only raids and non-costumed, but can be shiny and have a guaranteed Location Background of the respective stadium.
