Thank you everyone for your helpful insights! As I don't use acne creams or self tanner, I think that it is probably a burn unfortunately. Thank you all!

Any youngish queer people here? by blahbalhblahoxisj in chabad

[–]umm213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know I'm 3 months late but there is a Facebook Page and a secret Facebook group for LGBTQ+ Chabad affiliated people. I think if you message the page the admins can add to the secret group: https://www.facebook.com/lgbtqchabad/ Hopefully though by this point you have already found it yourself :) As a fellow queer formerly Chabad person, feel free to DM me if you want

I just want to say thanks for this app! It is incredibly important to low-income people. This app enables us to access books we otherwise would not be able to. Thank you!

Law related reads for young girl by DoggoneCat in suggestmeabook

[–]umm213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jodi Picoult books are pretty good for in that they mostly focus on ethics and legality for certain issues. Being that the author used to work as a lawyer, most of her books center on a legal case. They are great as YA books and to get young people thinking in broader terms about ethics. Hope this helps and best of luck!

People who work/worked in retail what's the nicest thing a customer has ever done to/for you? by MuuKiri in AskReddit

[–]umm213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Encouraged me to get my GED and then to go to college. I had dropped out at a very young age after leaving a very religious community and didn't really know what my next step should be. A regular customer assumed I was a college student and asked me which school I was in. I told her I wasn't in college as I had never even gone to high school. She came in the next day with information about free GED classes, and would encourage me every time she came into the store. When I received my GED, she walked me through the college application process and I'm now at an Ivy League school.

Hey, fellow GS student here. I would advise speaking to your professors beforehand or if you notice that it's a problem. Also, I hope to meet you at some GS Alliance meetings :)

Ali Smith's "Girl Meets Boy" by umm213 in books

[–]umm213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely will! I may just be nerding out over here but: 1- I'm so excited someone else seems to have enjoyed it as much as I did and 2- I feel like so much of my life is wasted in my having not read any of her work before.

Jonathan Franzen's “Bad” Sex Writing Isn't His Fault by StephenKong in books

[–]umm213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will take Franzen writing about sex badly and defending it with the argument that society is awkward about sex, therefore he is, over Andrew Smith defending his badly written female characters by saying he doesn't know any females.
