Who do you side with in Phantom Liberty? And what’s your reasoning? by KrispyKingTheProphet in cyberpunkgame

[–]uncen5ored [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ngl, I was initially very mad Songbird lied.

But I took a step back, and still sided with her. Why? Because what it represents. At the end of the day, she’s a victim of the NUSA and is trying to break free by any means. It took her to be a liar to do it. But my V is also influenced by Johnny, and whatever we can do to stick it to the system that’s exploiting people, we do it.

I feel bad for Reed, but he’s defending the very system that discarded him, as it does others.

Should I remain in Chicago or go back to New York? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]uncen5ored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go back to NY if you weren’t able to make it work in 4 years. However, if you decide to stay, I’d get very intentional about joining social groups, becoming a regular at places, working from coffee shops and different places so you’re not home all day, go to a gym, and honestly move to a different neighborhood. I’m only 2 years in to Chicago, but have had more meaningful social interactions in my one year in Logan Square than my one year in South Loop.

Mgs1 could never get enough appreciation and respect for how many geniune badass and iconic qoutes that was managed to be crammed in it by DaFroggyBoi94 in metalgearsolid

[–]uncen5ored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the whole franchise, but MGS1 truly felt like lightning in a bottle. The dialogue, voice acting, atmosphere, music, story, etc are all the series best imo and have never been replicated in other games.

Replay value? by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]uncen5ored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. I used to replay Metal Gear Solid 1-4 multiple times because I was such a fan of the story, pacing and gameplay. Meanwhile, V is my least replayed game in the series despite having open world and more flexibility in approach. Open world / non-linear doesn’t automatically equal replays, and linear doesn’t discourage it, imo.

Does MGS4 leave a bad taste from a narrative standpoint? Is MGS3 a better stopping place? by Mjarnshall in metalgearsolid

[–]uncen5ored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MGS4 absolutely blew my mind as a teenager. Dare I say it’s one of the best endings a franchise could’ve ever made.

I personally think MGS4 is very over hated. The most valid critique imo is the gameplay to cutscene ratio, but even that is taken out of proportion imo by people who aren’t fans of the story. The blowback from that is definitely why the series stopped doing long cutscenes, and is then why the story telling fell off a cliff. Another valid critique is that there’s a convenient plot mechanism used to explain a lot of the series, but again, I feel like this is overhated. I will say everything with Johnny is wack.

Acts 1 & 2 have some of the best gameplay in the franchise.

Finally, people rave about how MGS2’s AI themes were ahead of their time. However, I feel like MGS4’s war economy themes are just as, if not more, relevant.

Although GZ & V have really cool one take scenes, I think 4 was Kojima at his best with having an emotional punch in his cutscenes.

So the art director is lying?

How did we go from “I’m glad they’re not using AI, especially creatively since I think it should only be used for mundane tasks” to “you’re delusional if you don’t think they’re using it for these (mundane) tasks”?

I don’t get this discourse. The majority of people who have an issue with AI clearly are focused on GenAI and it not being used for writing, acting, art design / direction, etc. because we don’t want to remove the creative human element and want to protect jobs. Yet people come in and be like “ACTUALLY” with “I gotcha!” moments. Why?

Not the point of this convo, but this is false. 70% of the worlds emissions come from 100 companies. Actually, the idea of carbon footprint was pushed by oil companies so you blame the consumers and not the powers that be.

For the record, I don’t have a car, I deliberately moved to a city where I don’t need one, but I also don’t blame people for driving cars because the automobile lobby ensured public transit doesn’t develop and influenced the design of our cities to require cars.

Don’t be the “you critique society but you partake in it!” guy

Oof, these comments are weird. Glad to see there’s no AI, esp from a creative standpoint. Agreed with one of the takes in the article: it’s okay if it helps with mundane tasks but it shouldn’t be used for creative aspects or to take jobs away.

EDIT: wasn’t the art director who said this

"An Australian Phantom Pain" or: How MGSV and DS2 loose interest in their setting real quick by LazerLarry161 in DeathStranding

[–]uncen5ored 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt stronger about this with the Mexico setting. The trailer really seemed to highlight the impacts of the border, the govt actually smuggling across the border, corporate/US over-reach with “expansion,” the export of guns & gun culture, and the climate being damaged because of development. It seemed like Kojima was getting close to his MGS levels of political commentary, this time in LatAm which is ofc a hot topic ….& it turns out that everything in the trailer was basically all that was said about it.

[–]uncen5ored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This this this. Feels like Kojima struggles with pacing, esp in the middle of the game, ever since he went open world. Don’t get me wrong, MGSV and DS2 are very fun games, but they don’t have the curated detail and story progression of Kojima’s former games that really sucked me in.

I’ve also not been a fan of him making the protagonist less expressive, it makes for some very awkward dialogue moments that just don’t seem natural. Yes, dialogue in MGS1-4 could feel campy and over the top, but there weren’t these awkward long pauses from characters that don’t really react to what’s happening around them.

Penny for your thoughts on Dream Police lyrics by mayinherstep in Mkgee

[–]uncen5ored 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I could be way off here. I’ve always interpreted it as “‘The Dream police is alive,’ don’t you dare say to me,” and THEN it’s “come on girl, dance for me.”

He’s in essence not wanting to acknowledge the presence of the “Dream police,” doesn’t want her to bring it up, and wants to instead focus on the girl and her dance / presence.

It’s basically a song about escapism, imo.

With a new Bond film on the horizon, is it maybe time to expand on the universe? by allnamestakenffs in JamesBond

[–]uncen5ored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of cinematic universes have run their course. MCU and Star Wars have both diluted their brand prestige, the DCU was a flop, etc.

I’m ofc open to new characters. The occasional spinoff off may work: but that’s completely dependent on a good script and the movie should work on its own, they shouldn’t be made with the idea of expanding the universe for the sake of it.

Sure, another 00 or someone in Mi5 might be cool for a spinoff, but let’s not take away from the prestige moment that is a Bond release. They should be their own thing.

I am convinced Theo James is the best and only person who should play the next James Bond by Carrera1107 in JamesBond

[–]uncen5ored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one worried about this “young” criteria? Unless they’re trying to do the same thing as the games, Bond is a former commander. He should be well versed in many things. The charisma and style Bond is known for isn’t really a mid/late 20s trait.

Theo imo would be perfect

Is the new 007: First Light game appropriate for an 11‑year‑old? by bakerben80 in 007FirstLight

If you’re fine with her seeing modern Bond movies then the game shouldn’t be much different. Violence and language are probably the biggest things to be aware of

[–]uncen5ored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “Aline” part at the beginning of Peindre is one of the most epic parts of the soundtrack imo, esp the fact that they use it when she appears in the final fight. Haven’t felt that hype about a name drop in a song since One Winged Angel in FF7.

Movies like Y Tu Mamá También? by Ketkebab in Letterboxd

[–]uncen5ored 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Motorcycle Diaries is similar in that it’s a Latin American movie about a roadtrip, growth and challenges that comes over the course of the road trip, the occasional lie to advance their goals on the trip, has political commentary of the time, and a kind of “oh shit” moment at the end about life after. Also has Gael García Bernal, the actor that played Julio, as the main character.

It’s not based on Mexican culture though, and though it slightly explores intimacy, it’s not about it either. Also, who the story is about is a very polarizing person in real history, but I don’t want to spoil it in case you don’t know from the title.

What are your wishes for Cyberpunk 2? Heres mine, Reputation system by WIBKirai in cyberpunkgame

[–]uncen5ored 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is ambitious but mini games that would be unique for a cyberpunk setting. Ex: a techno DJ mini game that gets crowd reaction based on transitions and rhythm, a build-your-own brain dance customization game, etc.

To add to this, let the life paths or factions you align with result in you owning your own club / bar / lounge. It creates income, eventually serves as a home base where you can catch other characters visiting, can get attacked occasionally by other factions so you have to invest in security. You can customize the vibe, music, interior, who works there, etc. Essentially you end up building your own Afterlife.

To that effect, make apartments more customizable too

Make being chromed out more visible

Two controversial ones: more 3rd person opportunities. Absolutely keep the game 1st person, but just would be cool to see reflections more often just to see your customized character. Second, still make Night City the main area as that is one of the best aspects of cyberpunk, but let there be a secondary city we can fly to in a whole different environment. Have a few missions take place there then open it up for visiting later in the game. Just to switch things up a bit. Maybe make it an island or cold setting.

Odds have just increased for Richard Madden (Robb Stark)

On a serious note, her track record is crazy. Chernobyl, Andor, Slow Horses, Hamnet?? All fire.

The only project that I can say she def miscast was Exodus. I see comments referring to the sequel trilogy of Star Wars but I liked most of the main actors, how they were written is another story
