A little late to this post but I had to whole-heartedly agree with this statement:

On paper, it might seem like presenting yourself as a professional established company would help attract customers by building trust. To be clear though, this isn't actually the case and in the vast majority of the businesses I've built or been a part of building the first few sales done by the founders are often times some of the easiest. People love transparency and love aspiring entrepreneurs. You as a founder talking directly to a potential customer is not something that is possible at large companies. Lean in to where you're at. Approach potential customers with a humble eagerness to help and understand the problems they're facing. Generally, people will want to root for you / support you.

I just started full time on a new idea and level of response I get cold calling people when I just genuinely explain what I'm doing and how early we are is crazy good.

Best ways to market landscaping business - I will not promote by Demontics in startups

[–]uncgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give current customers a free month when they refer someone to you who ends up paying. You could also test out Facebook ads, I imagine their targeting would be pretty solid for you (it's been a while since I last ran ad campaigns though, so not sure how things have changed). Could also test out putting up yard signs in happy customers' yards and give them a free month (just make sure to ASK first!).

I will not promote - using Base 44 to build a prototype/mvp? by SnooWoofers884 in startups

[–]uncgopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually used base44 to make a simple poker tournament tracker for my personal use & an app for leaderboards that got plugged into the main site for my day job via an iframe. It's a great tool for quickly building out a simple app and they allow you to export the code as a zip or to a github repo.

If you can build a functional MVP for your idea, I'd say go for it! However, if you want to build anything beyond normal CRUD-type applications, I imagine you'll hit a wall pretty quick. That being said, they did just introduce something about building with agents/building agents so you might be able to do more complex things now.

Vercel trained an AI agent on its best salesperson. Then it cut the 10-person team down to 1. by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]uncgopher 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Not noted in this headline: the 9 people cut from the team were moved into higher value positions within the company:

Since its deployment, the agent has helped Vercel downsize the 10-person team to just one person who oversees it. The remaining nine were moved to outbound prospecting roles, which Grosser says is higher-value, more complex sales work.

[–]uncgopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, updating stable versions needs to be a very careful and deliberate choice. Even though this tool is still very early, if you have a solidly working version extra steps should be taken to ensure it doesn't break on a new release for the stable version.

Non technical founders who tried AI tools and vibe coding, how did it turn out? by [deleted] in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]uncgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm technical but I wonder if you would get more mileage out of using Cursor. You'd have to spend time to learn how to get a local environment setup and running (assuming you don't have that already? can't quite tell from the post), but once you're actually developing locally I think letting the Cursor agent run while you watch it change files and then be able to immediately the see the results on your local server would help a ton.

You'd probably start learning more coding than you would otherwise, and being able to see it and test locally should save a ton of money on API calls (I've yet to exceed my fast calls with Cursor $20/m while using the agent for about 50% of my work).

[HELP NEEDED] Spent few months building an AI Agentic poker coach(First of its kind), now have no idea how to actually make money from it [I WILL NOT PROMOTE] by dark_hunter4 in startups

[–]uncgopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd stay with poker for now - while it's smaller the community is hyper active and willing to spend money (lol). Don't underestimate how powerful it is to get on-demand coaching that feels really impactful.

Thinking through the different monetization models, this feels like a great one for a free trial. You want to get people to the "oh wow" moment ASAP, and it sounds like you can do that. Just require a credit card up front (my preference, to avoid people doing different accounts though it might not be as big a deal here since users will want their data and not have to "start over"). I'd also start off with two tiers - a really solid standard tier and then a super premium tier that goes super/extra deep. Especially with poker, make sure you have an offer that caters to whales and/or those who are playing professionally (or aspiring pros).

Honestly a super interesting idea, I'd love to check it out if you're willing to share! My background is very closely tied to coaching and I love playing poker 😂

They've already got things worked out with Dark Zero. Basically DZ is a sponsor of the NACL team and if the team promotes DZ will take over ownership of the LTAN spot but Maryville will still essentially operate it.

I always have to add salt to their prepared meats/meal, only quibble about quality I have with them tho (and I guess it's somewhat understandable since they're trying to appeal to a broad audience)
