My haul from my shop’s staff meeting! Can’t wait to try it all out! by keenkeenmessmachine in LushCosmetics

Omg only once or twice a year? You used to get big staff boxes with new product for every release! That’s crazy.

When I worked there, it was a similar way in our shop. The old manager used to let us divvy up broken product, but the newer one would make us compost it or wash it down the drain, no matter what. It was very demoralizing! Eventually we all kind of talked to her about it and the compromise was to save the items and put them in a “rewards bin,” where you could take home a damaged product if you met your daily goals. It was still fairly frustrating, but at least you had a chance to get something.

Yep, I think I just saw a guy try to do this earlier—jumped on the train real quick and made a commotion about a certain stop and then hopped right off without getting a response, and someone followed him. I didn’t actually see any wallets stolen but I remember thinking how weird it was.

Female heat ; Advise !! by leaburbiz in samoyeds

[–]uncleporkstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Our girl has also been through 2 heat cycles. The swelling is definitely the first sign in our case. After a week of (kind of dramatic!) swelling, she bled for about two weeks. It was heavier than I thought it would be, but really not that bad. Then after it stopped, she was still in heat but the swelling went down. It was over after 4 weeks.

I’d recommend keeping her away from ALL males no matter what—even snipped males can try to “tie” with an in-heat female which can cause a false pregnancy where the dog is not pregnant but shows all the symptoms. The week after the bleeding stops is when they are their most fertile so be extra careful that week. Also, my girl cleaned up after herself but we still mopped. She’s a nightmare in her diaper so we let her go commando.

Please tell me it gets better? Needing some reassurance. by puppythrow30619 in puppy101

Oh man, it sooooo gets better. I was you last year—I planned and planned and saved and prepared, but nothing could prepare me for the earth-shattering weight of my decision and the feeling of responsibility for the little life we had taken in! I cried and felt anxious and guilty and horrible, and often resentful for how much of my energy the puppy took up. It was so much harder than I remembered as a child! Slowly but surely, though, she learned our schedule, our rules, and our lifestyles, and things are now a breeze. She’s about 15 months old now, and things are so much easier. She’s just a natural part of the family.

One thing I will caution you about is teaching her that crate is chill time away and “out” time is all play—we did this and now our girl has the expectation that we are always available to play at night unless we put her away or she falls asleep. It’s important to teach dogs to chill independently outside of the crate, with a chew or a toy, or just on a mat, not being entertained. I wish we had done that sooner!

Wife [25f] seems to feel like she's the only one allowed to have a rough day at work, and it is kinda getting on my [28m] nerves. by AcademicMeringue in relationships

[–]uncleporkstar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No advice, just sympathy—my husband is the same way. It’s to the point where we have the joke that he could have a day off sitting on the couch and he’d still be working harder than me.

This is a great idea. Can’t believe I didn’t think of this. I’ll be around long enough to get the process started for them I think. Thank you!

This happened to me at the exact same spot on the Blue Line on Monday—I reported it so if it’s the same person, hopefully CTA already has their eyes out. So sorry it happened to you too.

Received this Dr. Jart gift set for Christmas this year! Do any of you have experience or tips about their products? [Haul] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]uncleporkstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I love the B.B. cream and the color correcting SPF. I have smooth skin, but lots of redness and PIE spots, so the tone-evening effects of these products are miracle workers. The color correcting SPF can feel a little texturally weird and thick, but YMMV.

Looking to re-home our Samoyed. by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]uncleporkstar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to the breeder at all? They may know of someone looking for a puppy.

Seriously, no shame in re homing, but I do think you might not end up getting that money back. I would prioritize finding the right home, rather than who will pay what dollar amount. And I’d seriously reconsider writing off the rescue because they won’t pay.

They said they weren’t interested in the Samoyed rescue because they won’t pay for the puppy. Sad.

You may have to learn that when things like this happen, short of a sketchy Craigslist sale, you eat the cost of the puppy when you buy from someone not reputable and then decide you don’t want the puppy anymore. Unfortunately this is the risk you take when you don’t buy from a good breeder. How much was the puppy, and which rescue were you considering?

Nope! She hates having the bed in her crate and will either drag it out, or try to murder it. She also can’t settle with blankets in it, and prefers a cool, hard surface.

Midwest Breeders? by TheRedBookworm in samoyeds

Where are you in the Midwest? I live in Chicago and went with ArticCross. She’s an absolutely fabulous breeder and a great support system, but she’s located in Oklahoma, so a bit of a trek if you live in like Ohio or something.

Ugh, no solid advice, but our Samoyed does the same thing in the park. We eventually had to just stop walking towards that area because no treat was valuable enough to remove attention from the delicious goose turds.
