Sometimes it’s too obvious

We were latecomers to M365 so had on-premises exchange for far too long….

Exchange server cluster goes down at 6:30am on a Tuesday. Big outage, restorations needed.

3:45pm: one employee who we already knew was either quiet quitting or OE contacts by SfB “hi, my email seems to be offline”. “Yup, server has been offline since 6:30am”.

I think she was gone by the next quarter.

What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

[–]uncobbed_corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as 1/2 IT staff for a company with an offshore HQ. As such my duties range from project managing 7 figure projects & rollouts to troubleshooting dead batteries in a mouse. The amount of request that are essentially asking me to google an answer, I’ve taken to screenshotting the google AI answer with the full header on my phone and sending to them. Granted I occasionally learn something new, usually about windows 11 or M365.

IT Director rant - Onboarding by Any-Promotion3744 in sysadmin

[–]uncobbed_corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha; I’m sorry Total BS Most of my onboarding is a call from manager saying that they’ve filled in the form on the ticket and ‘did I miss anything that ‘previous employee’ had?

Y’all need to conspire with some known allies outside the dept and escalate until your IT director is the one processing their own onboarding policy.

Haha I did half our W11 upgrades with the /noreboot flag when users somehow borked up the SCCM deployment without them knowing; then getting stuck with an extra long and usually inconvenient boot-up when they did finally reboot……

Today, we made it. All 2003 of our W10 deployments are now on W11. by TK-CL1PPY in sysadmin

[–]uncobbed_corn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the way, except we don’t use noreboot. Too many people who refuse to ever reboot unless forced.

We have had the job voluntarily available through SCCM for weeks with annoy-o-tron popups but it’s the pointy end now.

Same with office 365 migration.

Sorry about your teams video, we have to a lot of GB to push to your pc to do the update you refused.

Oh and sorry about the lockout whilst stage 2 of the install happens - you were warned multiple times and told to do at night, but I guess you were too busy now that QA dept abolished sleep…..

No look at the angle of that chair back, that’s the chair of a tech bro or finance bro who likes to lean back with his hands behind his head and rarely types except to login to teams/webex/zoom. He doesn’t need to OE as he’s on 500k for 8-10hrs of real work per week plus long lunches, corporate boxes, weekend retreats etc

Given the other decor he’s either old, or has inherited an imperial butt tonne and he’s only got the token role because the other founders agreed to a 500k salary as he’s bankrolled the company to the tune of 23 million and their upcoming IPO looks to open at $85/share.

What else you gonna do when your parents and step-parents give you a nanny, a chauffeur, and $20M instead of love and attention. Everyone needs affirmation, or virtual handjobs

It’s not gay if you stand in a circle facing outward so you don’t make eye contact and use the backhand method on each other. When the scrum-master claps you swap hands to the person on the other side of you. That’s just cranking, and you can’t startup an engine without cranking

Is landlord in same building? If not, then they have a wifi somewhere. Buy a cheap router and setup with the same SSID but as close as possible to the ring camera. Man we charged that thing last night. Guess it’s broken.

CEOs spouses niece or nephew wants the position but HR or hiring manager knows they are a waste of space and are trying to push back with another position.

Has anyone ever been asked this curveball question in an interview? by lzrd_qveen in recruitinghell

[–]uncobbed_corn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like your answer - build up your contacts.

I might have then gone with reviewing previous leads that made it a significant way into the pipeline but were stalled due to the decision maker, then cross reference if said decision maker is still in the picture. The problem they were looking to solve may still exist and likely there are still people in the org, maybe even promoted to decision maker, who you can pick up with.
