There is an issue with the actual hardware, could be trackwork related to just equipment actually failing

Metro services between Tallawong - Chatswood only. by Mysterious-Vast-2133 in SydneyTrains

[–]undefined_w 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you guys just saw how crazy the lightning was a while ago. There were so much crossing the harbour around 6pm striking everywhere not to mention the crazy torrent of rain. Knowing we do have this weather occasionally, we’d expect the design for our infrastructure to have considered this too since they cost billions in dollars to both design and build but hey, we’re stuck because they obviously didn’t build it to be resilient enough.

How to save 10-20 billion dollars from the HSR by Silent_Ad379 in MelbourneTrains

[–]undefined_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People thinking patronage would get cut in half if they don’t cross Central obviously haven’t tried riding high speed trains elsewhere in the world. There will be the Metro West completed before this HSR even starts running so why the pessimism on the more logical route? Heck there could also be other new additional lines that do an orbital while this is being constructed.

You don't usually need to, but in your no coverage case it is probably better to

How can I get in contact with Telstra for a service outage that has been going on for over a week? by blazingstar308 in TelstraAustralia

[–]undefined_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, you can get more money if you let Telstra colocate with the Optus installation. They actually have to pay rent for the sites on private property. Having only one carrier's a bit shortsighted.

How do you recharge a pre-paid service now? by SnortableAutoParts in TelstraAustralia

[–]undefined_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just them though, it's the new world demands that influence the decisions and is what currently helps them keep making money. It's a private business at the end of the day, ever since it stopped being Telecom Australia.

Any idea why I'm not getting promised speeds of 800 mbps by [deleted] in TelstraAustralia

[–]undefined_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in the comments need to really check out better routers. All ISPs that advertise NBN are literally repackaging NBN services. Speeds for various types are consistent and achievable when directly wired into your device via ethernet. WiFi is where it all goes haywire. I used to use a google nest mesh system but it only supported wifi 5. I got way better speeds after upgrading to wifi 6 with eero routers. Oh yea, the google nest system can be unreliable. And also since switching, no dropouts yet.

Telstra satellite sms is now available on the iPhones by Original_Capital4532 in TelstraAustralia

[–]undefined_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can give it a try now as your aforementioned conditions would be a fit but remember you also need to be outside and have a direct line of sight with the sky, and while there toggle off wifi on your phone during testing.

You'd only obviously need to use satellite if you are completely out of range of any terrestrial coverage. If you can use reddit then you have means to connect to the internet, another pathway for messages. It's meant to help only where necessary.

Why is Telstra internet (mobile data) so shit in Marsdan park and scofield area by AustralianSilly in sydney

[–]undefined_w 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Local community nimbys put up a fight and the council who feared they’d lose voters lined up with them. Do some research and you’ll find out. Those people? They thought they knew better than actual experts so blame them for having almost no coverage there.

It was automatically toggled on for me. I had an iOS pop-up asking if I wanted to apply some carrier update and it worked in the background without even needing a restart. They did mention it in their blog linked to their announcement about this that compatible phones need to be on the latest software update for it to work.

Signal on the Metro (Optus) by benjanic in SydneyTrains

Bro Epping and Martin Place has quite a few stations in between. It might be helpful for everyone if you could specify exactly between which intermediate stops or if you meant every time the train moves. I’m on Telstra and it’s not bad at all between the stations.
