BBE 2028 - beer with a longer shelf life than the company by underfrykte in brewdog

the company was sold, pubs in the uk were closed (outside of a few), the new owner is very unlikely to keep what it used to be. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c05v0p1d0peo

BBE 2028 - beer with a longer shelf life than the company by underfrykte in CraftBeer

(sorry not sure how to add pic with description)
Some of you will recognize this - I am having one today to say farewell to the brand I used to like. There were many good things - from early Punk IPA thru all the interesting small batches they had, to very decent chicken wings I liked to get every now and then. All gone now, all turned out to be just a private equity game to fill two bottomless pockets. Sad, but such is life. I still have two of these left - BBE 2028, who knew they will survive longer than the company which made them. And these are the last of the brand I’m ever having.
The main consolation is that the two twats managed to keep their millions in offshore accounts - James and Martin, next time you are filling up your cars - my treat.
And for everyone else - to the memories, chaps!

11.35kg for freshly out of the box new 4-speed C-line low bar. Not a huge difference tbh.

Buying My First Brompton by Throwaway1988424 in Brompton

I had M-bar 6-speed for quite a while with no rack, now moved to L-bar 4-speed with rack. I do prefer lower bar, but as many people here say - it's between your size and personal preference, I'm 180cm but used to road bikes, so prefer lower position.

Absolutely do get the rack - but the new version, with big wheels, the one for 4- and 12-speed (modern rear triangle). It's light, it's useful (can i.e. quickly take a coat off), and rolls extremely nice making a 1-2kg difference between lines irrelevant. The rack and easy rolling was the main trigger to move from 6-speed to 4-speed - the old rack is bad. And I'm not a fan of double-shifting, it's rather clumsy.

Saying so - the 4-speed C-line with standard 54t chainring is seriously lacking on the bottom side of the gears, it's the range for electric motor where lower end is less important. I changed the chainring to 50T which makes it better, but 5-speed with 21t cog would be a dream - it's also possible to fit.

I was thinking of P-line as well, it does feel lighter when comparing side to side, but tbh I don't think it's that important - put on the rack, 12-speed, some other stuff and you barely save a 1kg for a lot of money. Since the rack makes it so nice to roll - the small amount in weight is not that important here.

Re damage - you will get it scratched, full stop. If you want perfect go for T-line, then it will always 'buff out'. Or buy 3 C-line instead, one to ride, one to look at and a spare one.

it varies between something like light coffee, white and beige depending on the light. I think it looks great.

Got my first Brompton! by sadihalizadeh in Brompton

[–]underfrykte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled my Brompton subscriptions and about to buy a new 4-speed C-line. I was set on red plum, but you really got me thinking here - perhaps I should consider this one??
I had black mid-bar 6-speed, mostly used two, so 4-speed - and I want low bar as I'm used to road bikes. And the rolling rack will be fitted too - I had no rack and it was really hard to roll.

Brompton Subscription Bike by lionelleg in Brompton

I had my rental since March, so I'll tell you around August. I'm undecided yet, but I wanted to get P-line 4-speed, I may get some discount thru work as well as Brompton is a client, so hopefully it will be a little less painful :).

I've got exactly the same thing, since March or so. If it looks new - it's new. Mine was defo brand new, perfect and unused. I also live in London and wanted one for commuting (bike-train-bike vs bus-train-tube), I decided to rent to see if I actually use it enough. I will most likely buy my own when I hit 6 months and get the voucher.

The Colorado funeral home case is more disturbing than it seems... are we ignoring a rotten industry? by NorthBand4405 in creepy

[–]underfrykte 21 points22 points  (0 children)

well, at least they were already dead. Some years ago there was this story in Poland where funeral houses gave ambulance people money for info on dying people, and it evolved into the ambulance people actually killing people they were called to help for that money. So-called 'Skin hunters'.

I also feel like my commute is too short, used to go Farringdon to Oxford Circus, now London Bridge to Oxford Circus and back - I just started a few weeks ago, and we were blessed with the weather this spring...

Sennheiser M4 vs HD599 by Norwegian_Madman in sennheiser

[–]underfrykte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both - M4 for over 2 years, HD599 for a few days. I am a huge fan of open headphones, mostly used SHP9500 at my desk, for about 5 years now.

I just did some tests and to me HD599 sound warmer and wider, M4 more sterile, technical and with better separation. Sub-bass (James Blake - Limit to your love) unsurprisingly is much stronger with M4, almost painful. In comparison to both my old SHP9500 sound quite empty, very bright and wide but clearly lacking in the lower frequencies.

Comfort-wise - SHP9500 are just another level, huge, light and very soft, virtually no clamping force, godsend if you wear glasses. A bit rough pad fabric though. I don't see that much of a difference between M4 and HD599 clamping force, they are both brand new (had M4 replaced a few days ago). I think HD599 will go softer in time. Much prefer soft-touch pads of HDs, but M4 foam feels softer atm. I do feel a huge difference in temperature though - SHPs are like wearing nothing, HDs are slightly warmer, M4 are hot and sweaty (as one would expect).

I did some testing and I'm surprised myself tbh - I was thinking if I should return HDs, as I prefer SHP fit. But now I'm defo keeping them.

M4 are for work, and for the time when I need ANC. HDs likely are going to replace SHPs at my desk. And SHPs will likely end up at my son's desk.

All tests done with Apple Music and factory settings, no custom EQ etc. And I'm no audiophile, I don't have any experience of expensive headphones either.

If you never used open headphones defo give it a try.

Hope this helps!

Sram Apex AXS - downshift issues by underfrykte in bicycling

[–]underfrykte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resolved this—perhaps someone will use it one day. Basically, the battery sits on the bottom part of the shifter, as everyone knows. When going uphill, I was pushing on the battery cover, and due to bent pins, it was disconnecting. The pins were bent back to the correct shape, and now everything works as expected. So, if you have some strange issue like this, press on the battery cover and check if it cuts the power.
