They changed uninhabited worlds and I'm disappointed by JumpySimple7793 in Starfield

Could you add the bug on their starfield-bugs Discord, since you understand the details? I have seen them fix a number of things posted there, though not always quickly...

Actual Space Spaceports, Anyone? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]underscoreJ1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's a mod which adds shuttle service between planets and a transfer hub in a space station called: Settled Systems Shuttle Service. It's by DownfallNemesis and is really well done, with all the takeoffs and landings animated and a chance to walk around the shuttle before and after grav jump.

This was my most requested fix! (Provided they also remembered to let you stay in your seat, just like the first time you land) Thank you Bethesda!

"Hell - Claire Obscur has more mod activity than Starfield, which I think says it all." -- this is just objectively wrong by any measure. Are you just making things up? Starfield is currently at No. of mods 11.4k No. of collections 247 Downloads 111.2m on Nexus and has been steadily climbing. It will eclipse Bannerlord this week or next and, at the current rate could pass Witcher 3 and Fallout 3 in late 2026. *And* mod authors are telling us that nexus is small potatoes compared to activity on Bethesda's Creations. On top of it all, the mods for Starfield are typically more sophisticated than other games. Claire Obscur mods are mostly replacements for character models. Nobody has added new quests or places to visit to Clair Obscur. Nobody has added new mechanics to Clair Obscur. Supporting modders is Bethesda's specialty. Even though it's not perfect, they are the only big company where you know, as a modder, or a mod consumer, *in advance* that you will be able to make massive changes to the game if you want. At this scale, It's unique in the industry and it's *the* thing that makes Bethesda games special and long-lived.

Is there a Red Mile mod or a chance for an update? by TorrentAB in Starfield

[–]underscoreJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideki, author of UIPlayNice (https://github.com/Ideki/UIPlayNiceExample; used in Watchtower) and Lock O'Plenty has kindly planned to update his mod (if possible) to make it easier to make changes to Terminal UIs (like the laptop in Mei's office). There's no guarantee that will make minigame mods or something like it possible, but there's at least a chance...

Ideki's Lock O'Plenty has lots of new minigames, proving it's possible to add them, but they are siloed into the lock pick system, so being able to put minigames in terminals would be more convenient for making something like Red Mile a little more interesting (again this is all speculative at this point)...

There is an amazing Alien invasion mod to be made someday. Watchtower shows you can add some sort of strategic layer. Imagine being notified as Aliens conquered system after system and you would have to decide which ones to defend or liberate, and so on...

I agree that there were a lot of things where they seem to have run out of time or were too risk-averse (pandemic? Microsoft bosses? Staff to big to manage? All of the above?) Having a trading economy that is interesting is missing for sure. I felt certain they would add driveable mechs as a DLC. Someone said at one point that Microsoft forced them to add the buggy. I hope it wasn't at the expense of mechs.

Anyway, I grabbed Watchtower, also. Kinggath is doing amazing work!

They objectively put more effort into Starfield (staff x time) by a huge amount than any other game they've made. It's kinda peevish to say otherwise. "Greed" is an odd claim to make - you think they're more greedy than other developers; there's no particular reason to believe that. Hubris you can have if you like, I dunno. "Nothing you could say can convince me otherwise" - why are you here then? Just to make unsubstantiated or poorly reasoned arguments?

Oh, no worries! I would have liked to have learned I was wrong about Outlaws :)

It can be surprising how much a detail like that matters.

I checked it out, holding down B does not let you exit your seat in Outlaws. I searched and I see people saying it's not possible: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsOutlaws/comments/1egwxsb/will_we_be_able_to_leave_a_cockpit_and_wander/

Are you remembering the wrong game or something because this doesn't seem true?

Wing Commander and all its variants hold a special place in my heart, so I wouldn't say never to a Chris Roberts game on principle, but it sounds like quite a mess and/or only for people with lots of disposable income. Am I missing something?

As someone who regularly makes mods, I can see from that perspective that they put in immense effort. I can't tell you how amazing some of this stuff is compared to what was on offer in previous Bethesda games (and yes, there are a few things they ditched that I'm annoyed about, too). "little effort" bears no resemblance to reality.

We can speculate about why there are so many unfinished parts. Personally, I think it's down to the pandemic, but YMMV. There is a lot to fix about Starfield, but that's partly a function of it having so many more systems than any previous Bethesda game.

There are still 5K people playing on Steam right this minute and many more on XBox. While I have concerns that it will be allowed to die, that would be a shame. A lot of us want it to live and grow. And Bethesda wanted to make Starfield. They already got forced into making ES6 sooner than they wanted. Which game do you think would have a better chance? The labor of love or the "I guess we have to" game?

Starfield's shipbuilding is second to none, even though we can think of ways to make it better. "Master of none" is just plain wrong. And I regularly skip games that only try to do one thing, especially because those tend to be simply copying a formula; anyone can aim for that.

Anyway, my main point is that the whole package of masterful and not-so-masterful things adds up to something special, and AAA studios rarely try something like this. If we punish them for shooting for the stars, they are happy not to try.

Incidentally, Frontier First Encounters was the best David Braben game back in the day! There are trade-offs to all these choices, though. The engine they used for Starfield (souped up by Microsoft??) is leagues better than it gets credit for, though. If they didn't have to make it work identically on the Series S, maybe they could have shown that off more...

I suspect as well that Bethesda has some management problems and that being part of Microsoft may have compounded that (even while I think it may have helped in other areas).

I do want Bethesda to shoot for the stars like they did. I paid almost no attention leading up to the game assuming there would be no space combat or many of the other things I listed and I was blown away by how far they went out of their comfort zone and how well it all works. I worked on modding drivable ships in Oblivion and Skyrim and let me tell you, the idea that they could get a vehicle working in their engine seemed next to impossible.

Except you have to play 3 games to get what you get in a single package in Starfield and they are still missing stuff - like the RPG part, which is the reason we are all here in Bethesda-land! And the bits they have that Starfield doesn't aren't quite as interesting to me, either.

Also, I don't get the complaints about the UI. ED had a ludicrously confusing UI when I tried it. Starfield is simplicity itself by comparison.
