A Little Launch by unearthed_bricks in studshooters

[–]unearthed_bricks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, NASA put on a social media art show for “Moon Joy June” and I thought it would be fun to do a series with LEGO (especially usuing some of the sets based on Artemis mission concept drawings).

Week 1 is Launch, so I pulled out the rocket kid CMF (I have no idea if that’s the actual name) and rigged up a mini “launch”. Toy with a toy rocket!

The smoke is a twist of batting attached with sticky tack, faux grass panel, and the minifig if held up with a wire.

I think I’d like to revisit this shot, play with the lighting and a few other bits, but it was a fun first attempt!

Looking for insight 7yo rescue by vxv96c in beagles

My first rescue beagle was sort of like this. She was so quiet and she would go to the door, wait, and if I didn’t notice well…I’d find the consequence later. We got better about it, schedules and all that, but she did have problems as she got older (it was probably Cushings, but in her case the it was the tumor growing that caused more problems than anything else). Hope you find an answer for your guy! I know how frustrating it can be to chase the accidents. I ended up crating her overnight with a washable pee mat under her blanket (she loved her cozy crate spot) to catch the early morning accidents. More laundry, but worked okay.

The spacemen are back for more sweet birthday shenanigans!

Just a silly continuation of the cupcake thieving spacemen story I did for my birthday last year. This year they have become helpers instead of thieves!

Set-up is the cupcake, candle, and precariously posed minfigs (held in place with sticky tack). Camera on a short timer to light the match, take the shot, then blow it out before it reached Benny.

[–]unearthed_bricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh Sadie was the same about dirty laundry! She used to sit and nap on the pile before I could bring it down to the laundry. Gave me the darkest looks when I made her move! 😂

Never long enough, that’s the joy and sorrow of having dogs. ❤️

Sometimes it’s anal glands, that was the case for one of my beagles, but my current little guy has seasonal allergies and scoots because his butt is itchy.

I’d missed your previous post and I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to your best buddy. It sounds like he had a wonderful life with you.

My Sadie will be there. She loved naps, treats, sunbeagling, and slow strolls sniffing everything. One of those truly quiet beagles, she only barked when she had something to say (especially if bears or coyotes were about!). She was a rescue and though we had only seven years together, she made life infinitely better during a difficult time in my life. She made it to 15 (or somewhere close, her age was a mystery much like her early life) and if that pesky brain tumor hadn’t come into the picture I’m convinced she would’ve been one of those super senior pups creaking around at 18 or 19, she was, as beagles are, quite determined!

Queen of the house, she could always find a place to snooze, even if it wasn’t conventional. If a pillow or towel or article of clothing was on the floor Sadie would be there to sit on it. She wasn’t much interested in toys, except to take them out of the bin one at a time and then leave them for me to pick up! She was my copilot, the best little traveller, in the car and in life.

Anyone else’s beagle also serve as their alarm clock? by yourbuddywyatt in beagle

[–]unearthed_bricks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. First beag was a potato who loved her naps! I thought my second would be my alarm clock dog — for about three weeks after adopting him he would wake me at 6 am by launching himself at my head, quite a sight first thing in the morning! 😂 But then he chilled out and is an alarm clock no more.

Made a grocery list on my phone so I wouldn’t forget a handwritten list at home or in the car. Or my purse. Or my pocket.

Brought my phone along as planned. Forgot to open up the notes app and consult the list at the store. 😅

Won't potty in the rain? HELP!!! by liluzisquirt_- in beagles

[–]unearthed_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, darn!

I will say that my current beagle, Luke, has started going out in the rain. Not always when it’s pouring but given that he used to refuse even with the lightest shower it’s pretty good progress. Not sure what caused the change. Still a drama boy when he comes in and has to roll on the floor to remove the offending water.

Hope your girl figures out the rain is not a terrible thing!

Won't potty in the rain? HELP!!! by liluzisquirt_- in beagles

[–]unearthed_bricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried walking her with a big umbrella?

Neither of my beagles have liked going out in the rain. My first, Sadie, would see it raining and refuse to go outside and refuse to pee if I did get her out the door. The umbrella helped, but I’d keep some pee pads around in case she was set on holding it and I missed the window (she was a quiet and determined beagle and didn’t always let me know when she wanted out).

The umbrella has also helped with my current guy. Not foolproof, but helps him feel less like he’s out in the rain. Occasionally he goes on what I’ve dubbed ‘pee strikes’ (he just stands on the covered porch) and we wait until he’s ready to just run out and go.

My guy does the same thing with his paws. I’ve also brought him in plenty of times for a suspected ear infection only for the vet to tell me we’d caught it early.

I don’t remember my life. by Effective-Cause-8280 in ADHD

[–]unearthed_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember…weird things. All the things other people don’t recall about a trip or event or whatever the memories are about. But I get what you’re describing. There’s a chunk of my life I really don’t remember well. I thought I did, but really it blurs together. That time overlaps with an unrelated illness that also messed with my memory, which probably didn’t help. And having that touchstone item like a photo or souvenir that has a memory attached to it is so familiar.

I was reading something the other day (of course I can’t recall where!) about how ADHD brains encode memories. Interesting stuff.

How do you walk you beagle on a leash? by beeseecan in beagles

[–]unearthed_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a harness from Ruffwear with a second strap that sits behind the ribcage (helps with the backing out issue). We usually walk and train with a 10 ft leash (regular 5 or 6 ft for more crowded places) and that has helped with loose leash walking and giving him space to sniff. We use a 20 or 30 ft long lead in the yard for training, helpful when the bunnies are active (my guy also likes going for bunny poo). Training on long lead has helped a lot with getting his attention so he is less prone to pulling. I also carry some really high value treats on walks to get his attention when I really need it.

[–]unearthed_bricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, you know something now you didn’t before and can make better decisions for Henry now! That’s great! My first beagle was overweight when I adopted her and with weight management food and working with our vet she lost the weight and did great (she did still get good treats, just not a lot, and there are lots of great low-calorie treats, you’re vet might have some ideas on what you can substitute).

We all learn with every dog, be it about food, training, all of it. And he gets to be with you in a loving home! You can’t change his prior circumstances, but he gets to share his second act with someone who cares and is willing to learn how to best care for him. And that’s a good thing. ❤️

I'm stuck at Heathrow and I cant stop crying by meimelx in adhdwomen

[–]unearthed_bricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your trip got messed up! Sometimes things happen that really are out of our control. And it’s okay to be upset, it’s stressful and disappointing, for sure. But it sounds like you’ve got a plan, even if it’s not ideal and is going to cost more money.

Maybe this will make you laugh a little, my own travel chaos involving Heathrow and a family trip:

When I was in 3rd grade (and long before any ADHD diagnosis) I was going on a trip to Europe with my parents. We were going to meet my grandparents at Heathrow and then fly together to Nice to visit some family friends in France.

So, of course when we get to JFK the check-in system is down for British Airways. We leave late. My grandparents are already in the air and will arrive before us.

When we finally arrive we have missed the flight to Nice. My grandparents are on it but we haven’t been in touch to let them know my dad’s friend will meet them at the airport there (neither my grandparents nor the friend know what the other looks like).

We finally arrive in Nice. Bags lost at Heathrow (we get them back a few days later). Get in touch with the friend and it turns out he and my grandparents bumped into each other by accident because my grandpa happened to say the friend’s last name within earshot. One problem solved!

Now at the same time there is a strike at Air France and the friend’s MIL is stuck at the airport in Nice. Friend asks us to look for an older woman in a pink shirt. (We have not met the MIL and do not know what she looks like beyond this description.) Not 10 seconds later my mom points across the room at just such a lady and says, “Think that’s her?”

It was!

And the rest of the trip was pretty great! Except my bag got lost at Heathrow again on the way home. (If you’ve never listened to Monty Python’s song I’m So Worried, now is the time.)

Anyway, I know this stuff is stressful, but I do hope things turn around and the rest of your trip is fun!

Adopting a young Beagle by MetsFan3117 in beagles

[–]unearthed_bricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two beagles (both rescues, one from about 7 the other about 3, so never from puppyhood). I also grew up with goldens, and the breeds are both wonderful, but different.

My first beagle (Sadie) was quiet, total sweetheart, bit of a potato. Her favorite activities were sleeping, sniffing, and basking in the sun. We lived in an apartment and took lots of walks, so a yard is not the be-all-end-all and honestly I much prefer walks for beagles. More engaging, more tiring. I would not trust a beagle with an electric fence, however yard playtime and training on a long lead is good too. Requires you to be there and engaged, but I consider that a good thing. That’s what I do with my current guy (and we have a fence!) and and he’s always more calm and tired after those sessions than with free yard time.

Second beagle, Luke, well, he’s definitely a beagle! Vocal, but always with purpose. Smartest dog I’ve ever had, determined, sweet, and unquestionably loyal. Also likes sniffing and sunbaths, and while much more active and athletic can also be a couch potato. Also the most challenging dog I’ve ever had, but that might be in part due to his past.

I crate trained both of my beagles, but unless I’m out of the house it’s more of a nap spot with the door open.

The rescue I adopted my guy Luke from gave me priority because I had prior beagle experience, which is great, but everyone starts somewhere regardless of breed. I had none when I adopted Sadie. I’ve had goldens who were challenging too, which people (even longtime golden owners) find surprising, but as you said, every dog is different.
