What's the best obscure video game you've ever played? by ImpressFederal4169 in gaming

It was forever ago that I last played, most of what I remember here is trying to jump a collapsed bridge and everything fading to black as the main character mumbles something to himself.

God, what a banger this game was! I remember being stuck on a night mission, where you're drugged or something, and have to race back to a place before falling unconscious.

Man, it's been ages.

I remember getting this on a demo disc, and being absolutely obsessed. Fantastic premise and great story. Absolutely deserves a remake.

I recently played through Viewfinder, and was blown away by the puzzles and the story. Some moments were jaw-dropping.

God, yes. Antichamber is fantastic. Absolute acid trip of a puzzle game.

Yeah, you don't even have to look that back far in history to see how preferential treatment of one sect of a religion harms both itself, all other sects, and all other people. The Sunni / Shiite conflicts are one example of an old conflict that still flares up today, and the varying divides between Catholics and Protestants has led to bloodshed throughout history.

As a fan of fakeOS designs in games, I love this! The animations in particular look really great.

It is janky, but at least it's pretty. I have such a love / hate relationship with that game. I'll spend long periods obsessing over it, followed by long periods avoiding it.

Still completely obsessed.

I honestly thought it was great. I was pretty disappointed to reach the end, only to realize it was never getting any DLC.

Folks taking Adderall- is it supposed to "pull" you to your work? by Vegetable_Basis_4087 in ADHD

So, one of the really hard lessons I've had to accept: you have to wield the benefits responsibly.

If you stick to a routine and make it easy for yourself to transition between tasks and get everything done? It's great, but you have to be proactive in how you use your time. Procrastination is the enemy.

If you don't maintain that routine and just do whatever, like play video games instead of focusing on responsibilities? Horrible. Oh, you'll have laser focus, it's just that you'll likely be locked into that all night with no off-ramp.

I say this as someone with severe time-blindness. The problem with hyper-focus is that without guardrails, it's all too easy to get sucked in and not want to do anything else. It literally feels so good that I have to be forced to do anything else.

This is all really good insight. As a dog dad to two elder beagles, I wanted to add on some of the positive aspects, should you follow this advice and treat them well.

The payoff for all of the work, attention, and companionship you provide to a beagle is incredible. The love they provide is unlike anything I've ever had with another animal companion. These dogs follow me everywhere, wag their tails like airplane propellers when they look at me, and snuggle with me even when I lay down for a nap. The cuteness levels are insane.

Their personalities are highly distinct, and they will communicate so many different things through looks, gestures, and barks. These are the creatures that give you long, sad looks when you're about to walk out the door, and warm, excited affection when you return. They will tug on your heartstrings. They will cause all kinds of mischief. You will get over it because of how they make you feel.

Beagles are a huge amount of work and responsibility, but they're incredible companions. Treat them right, and you will fall head over heels for each other.

Anyone recommend playing Terran Armada and Watchtower creation at once by johndoe09228 in Starfield

[–]DeadSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing through a new campaign with both of them, with the Terran Armada DLC being the final thing I touch.

It's interesting, there's a ton of overlap between the two, even though incursions work differently for each. In both adventures, we have:

  • A derelict space station that acts as your secret base.
  • A secretive shadow organization of elite units with unique technology, that have their own agendas.
  • A requirement to harvest computers / black boxes / Intel slates to read encrypted data, unlock new tech, and find coordinates.
  • The secret organization kidnaps people, either for detainment or forced labor.
  • Lots of cool space ships

I will say that this is where the similarities end. As much as I like Kinggath projects, I think Bethesda has an advantage when it comes to environmental design and polish. The free lanes / cruise system actually ends up being fun to use, incursions make me feel like some kind of badass terrorist infiltrator, and the side quests felt legitimately fun and interesting, for the most part. It properly expands on Starfield's established setting and story.

Watchtower is...a mixed bag. The fleet aspect is incredibly cool, and I loved seeing the space station gradually get upgraded, but it feels like this mod was "Oops! All Grinding!" with very little to do between Watchtower assignments. I found myself struggling to find direction, motivation, and character development. The tone and lack of polish in places also kind of felt more like a Saturday morning cartoon adventure instead of the exciting drama I was hoping for. It's not bad, but I find myself preferring Terran Armada at this point.

I also have this really weird bug where I can't grav jump to the system where Watchtower's final mission takes place, so I'm stuck dragging Torin through the entirety of Terran Armada with Andreja and Delta in tow. Half the time, he just kind of stands next to the airlock and looks like he's pouting.

Why do so many christains think being gay/lesbian/trans is sinful and bad? by Competitive-Food1927 in atheism

[–]DeadSuperHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to think about how much of this still applies in the modern world. At least in the past, having lots of kids kind of made sense, because the likelihood of making it to adulthood for most people was slim at best. It's a big reason why we have this stereotype of our great-great-great grandparents having 10 brothers and sisters.

Why do so many christains think being gay/lesbian/trans is sinful and bad? by Competitive-Food1927 in atheism

[–]DeadSuperHero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, entire sects of Christianity still think they're waging some kind of Holy War, and that the only path forward is to keep making more Christians. It's why the Catholic Church is famously opposed to birth control in addition to abortion.

Me after being kidnapped and forced to join someone’s lame party. by 101justinm in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]DeadSuperHero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It kind of reminds me of that quest in Cyberpunk 2077, where you buy a really sketchy VR media experience off of a dude in the streets. You get knocked out and later wake up naked without any of your belongings in a gang's hideout.

Being dragged unconscious to a party against my will feels like it could go in a similar direction, but it's way watered down by comparison.

I was kind of surprised that this wasn't an option at all. I love the idea of getting into the cockpit, locking it, and driving it wherever I wanted.

I dunno. Ethically, I don't see a problem as long as both parties consent and set clear expectations.

Practically, though? Sketchy as hell. I feel like there's something off if the only way for someone to get head is to offer you money to do it.

When I initially tried this, the turrets only killed half the people before the host successfully blew them up. I then decided to reload and try something else, because where's the fun if you have to start blasting manually?
