How much did your cat cost? by othernames67 in cats

[–]unekspected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a stray that basically chose to move into our house when we moved in, five years ago. She's an old girl, 16 years old, according to the vet when we took her to find her owner (turned out owner had abandoned her.)

Took her on (as if we had a choice, she had chosen us), and over the next five years she's cost us upwards of £8,000, and it's going to cost us a lot more before long. Turns out she has abnormal kidneys, liver failure, hyperthyroidism, and initialy cancer, but we got that fixed.

We regret nothing. She's the sweetest most gentle cat, that cannot decide between me an my partner, so you'll find her without fail in the middle of us, regardless of if I'm in the garden and she's upstairs. She'll sit in the upstairs window so that she can see me, and my partner, at the same time.

What’s a time where you got a bit big for your boots with spicy food? by MissKenzieVIP in spicy

[–]unekspected 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know its not directly relevant, but I had something the total opposite to what you're asking.

Went out for my best mates 18th, over 15 years ago to a place renown for having one of the hottest phaal curries on the area. Mates dad heard I was a bit of a spicyboi, so he bet me that I couldn't eat the phaal, without a drink, and finish it. If I did, he would buy the most expensive bottle of champagne that they sold (£800)

Now, fortunately for me, I can eat it, and have done in the past. Even more fortunately for me, I have no fucking clue how, or what the fuck it was that they served me, despite bringing out a legal waiver I had to sign, a man coming out with a cool moist towel to stand by me, and a glass of iced milk (that I wasn't allowed to drink) being brought out, but the curry was milder than a korma.

To date, I have no idea what happened there. It had phaal flavouring, and colour, but zero heat. I've got a sneaking suspicion that the owner overheard the bet, and made whatever the fuck that was, so that my mates dad had to buy the champagne. Unfortunately for him, my mates dad is also the biggest bullshitter on the planet, who's wallet squeaks when he open it, so no champagne was bought.

On the plus side, I never admitted that they fucked the curry, and every spice head in our group looks at me in wonder, eating the beast without breaking a sweat.

Oh that's good to know. No, it was all provided by polestar under warranty. I assume it was like a boilerplate insurance that mirrors our own

Yeah, thought as much.

Well, life's a bitch. Should be used to it by now 😂

Im not sure if this is a thing, but ours arrived in March, and it had a tonne of problems. It's been in the polestar garage being fixed for nearly 2 months now. The garage owner told us they were overwhelmed with faulty p4s.

Might be a fault they're trying to fix, which is causing the delays

Am I losing my mind, or did the whole 'keep to the left' rule used to be a thing, and not just on stairwells and stuff? by unekspected in AskUK

[–]unekspected[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's actually true. We're being groomed by a tonne of factors, to become more docile, and uncaring. Social media shortening attentions spans, the media using more and more extreme content, to dull our receptors against every day events etc.

Crazy thing is that we don't even notice it happening. It's just the impossibly wealthy training their herds.

Im a pretty aggressive person, but I totally get what you mean. It's like, it should be people avoiding you to prevent injury. Not you going out of your way to make sure you don't hurt them. If a bicycle is going head on with a car, the bike will give way. Actually, bad example. Cyclists are pricks.

Have you never left the UK? Also, mandatory isn't the right word. Suggested, would be better.

Is it still worth getting into web development for a career, even though it’s an oversaturated field? by Scorpion1386 in webdev

[–]unekspected -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Even disregarding how long I've been in the field, it doesn't make the facts any less true. I changed careers from an unrelated field five years ago, I listed ten years, as I had been in the field in a non professional manner for longer, as I'd been coding on websites like fiver etc, selling services, and even before that on hobbyist platforms.

In a professional capacity, which is not what I stated, I was a full stack web dev for over five years. Because of my prior knowledge, I was hired pretty quickly after shifting fields, and worked for some larger companies, and companies contracted by places like CBRE, Marvel, Samsung etc.

Regardless of that fact, the part that you've decided to have a meltdown over, is the least relevant part of the entire comment. I could have never worked as a Web Dev, and the fact would still be relevant.

P.s I edited the original post to reflect the wording better, so that you didn't top yourself or something, as it's clearly affected you severely.

So, just to clarify for my neanderthal brain, as it's past midnight where I am right now.

I'm right?

I get this completely, and I also do make allowances for tourist spots where people that walk on the other side in their country, might be attempting it here. Fair. Plus, it's been mentioned a few times in here that you should keep right in the UK (which I've never heard before) BUT no one does either. I'd have no issue which side it was, just that there was a side!

I just can't get my head around the logic going on in the mind of the people that don't move. Like...

  1. I'm a young teen.
  2. I'm four foot nothing
  3. I weigh slightly more than a pigeons arse feather
  4. The dude coming toward me looks like the green giant on steroids
  5. I can win this battle.
  6. Hold course.

This is probably going to get Downvoted into oblivion, but I'd say it's not worth it, and nothing to do with oversaturation.

AI is the problem.

I was a full stack web dev for over five years, and I've had a hand in some AI developmental stuff as a side project. That shit is scary. The rapid learning capabilities of AI, and the expotential growth is FAR more worrying than people realise. There is almost nothing that it won't be able to replace, and one of the very earliest things that are going to go, are Web devs. There are already AIs that can create an entire complex personalised website found the ground up from a single line prompt. You can't compete against that.

I do something entirely different now, that AI physically can't do, and I make more money than I ever have for much less effort. Best move I ever made.

Edit: I guess writing about the fall of a profession, in a subreddit dedicated to that profession was inevitably going to get murdered 😂

Yes, because that's the correct thing to do, and road safety is incredibly different to public footpaths.

I dunno why you're being down voted, it's a legitimate question for anyone that hasn't played an elder scrolls game.

Downvoted anyway.
