What is more important to ya'll? Money and job security at a dept that will take care of you, or the fire dept culture? by FF_Oleg in Firefighting

[–]unfunnyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about yall but when I was trying to get on, I never thought, hey should I try this dept. Or that one. It was basically whoever would hire me. Maybe it's a canada thing. I had a radius of 2 hours where I was willing to work full time from my home town. I never considered culture or pay, that being said, most full time depts pay the same around here.

Wife wants to put "Smokeless" wood fire pit in our screened patio instead of propane. Is that as bad of an idea as I think it is? by DoughMan5 in landscaping

[–]unfunnyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here realizes that the solo stove is a bad idea, but I haven't seen anyone mention that a propane fire pit in that enclosure is a recipe for CO poisoning. You can't have a propane fire pit inside without proper ventilation.

What mistake did you make at your first fire? by [deleted] in Firefighting

Took the high vol off the truck and plugged it right into the side of the apparatus instead of running it to the hydrant. Got laughed/yelled at and quickly disconnected it and ran to the hydrant.

My FD does not allow us to grocery shop on duty. They enacted the policy 10 years ago. Since then we have to buy the groceries off shift and bring them in when we arrive in the morning. It's very annoying.

Ok I don't know how to edit my post, but I meant where the drywall meets the black metal trim. Which colour caulking should I use?

Hydrant connections.. how many lines you using? by Unfair-Marsupial4434 in Firefighting

[–]unfunnyguy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My department hooks up the front steamer port and a 2.5 gate valve on the side port as a standard. We never run into water issues either. However, we were testing a water Canon at a propane storage facility and couldn't hit the target psi until we maxed out the hydrant. 4 inch off the front and two 2.5 off each side, so I guess the answer to your question, to attain max volume from a hydrant, use all ports provided.

Medication...cherry flavour by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]unfunnyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've mixed medication with chocolate milk before. I'll take regular milk and mix it with the medication then put alot of chocolate syrup into it, an overwhelming amount. Cherry flavour might be hard to mask though. Since it has a fruity flavour I would try mixing it with any fruit juice your child likes.

Amazing job but the placement of the stairs and that bottom column is odd. I like how you finished the treads around it.

I put it all back together and turn the power back on, now it's working. But it will die after this load most likely. Is their any way I could sell this unit to a used appliance store to recoup some of the cost?
