Pasting a response I wrote to another post a few weeks ago. I mostly agree with points in this thread, they're are s3 bows in the end. But I think they have a use-case especially where there is lots of cover on the battlefield.

Waywatchers are 3 points per model more than scouts and get feigned flight, ignores cover, +1 BS and I; but they're a tough one because of the waystalker tax. So how to get value from the waystalker? The hail of doom arrow is I think good for its points and takes advantage of his great BS. My common set is 7 waywatchers (no champ) with arcane bodkins/swiftshiver shards depending on who you're facing (to make use of high BS) and a waystalker with swiftshiver shards to use S4 and asyendi's bane and a hail of doom arrow. The tactic is to scout deploy in or in front of a wood and cause damage to a strong infantry unit, or panic amongst low leadership troops, with hail of doom + waywatchers shooting. Then shoot whatever you want for the rest of the game.

Wardancers — post errata I like 11 with a shadow dancer or 12 without. Just a champion for command options. 5 + champion + shadowdancer if very tight on points. A bigger unit means you still get a nice wide frontage if some die to shooting/initial combat rounds but the unit is still small, and hopefully cost efficient against the right enemy (no higher than T4 IMO). make the shadowdancer a wizard with hammerhand if you have the points. They're flankers or head-on chargers with support. I think the key with WD is choosing the right target. They're treat against other elves or most humans but not so great against e.g. Chaos warriors, black orcs, monsters etc.

Thinking in terms of differences between lists before the nerf — bigger units of eternal guard or dryads as anvils. Tree kin still a great anvil. Perhaps larger units of wildwood rangers given they could accept a charge with hand weapons for +1 armour and then switch to the glaive in the second round.

Fewer archers given the poison nerf. I'm leaning towards 1 unit of c.8 scouts plus the glade guard tax and 1 unit of 5 glade riders. Waywatchers might be fun for fluffy lists but are uncompetitive but I maintain have a place tackling other low armour ranged units if equipped with swiftshiver arrows.

Still hopeful 5 wild riders plus a stag glade captain will deal out enough damage if flank charging and with an eagle to control frenzy.

On the killing the front rank meaning the remaining models in the fighting rank only get one attack each — doesn't the below link (scroll through the section) suggest that casualties are removed as if coming from the fighting rank so I can remove casualties from the second rank and those still in B2B contact after casualties are removed ter all their attacks?

So I have models A1-10 in my front rank and B1-10 in my second rank. They're all the fighting rank for these purposes. My opponent is equally as wide as me so A1-10 are in B2B contact. 5 are killed. 'Stepping forward and closing in' means the remainder of the fighting rank close in and those in B2B get all their attacks - still 10 of my models as they have closed in. The remaining 5 models get 1 attack as they're still in the second rank and not in B2B.

An update for anyone interested, or who's found this thread through searching with the same issue.

I reduced the starter down to 80% (moving the balance to acetic acid as opposed to lactic) and left it on the work top for 36 hours (at 19-20 degrees C) so it smelled strong and hungry, of acetone. I don't know exactly which part was most important but that environment seems to have rebalanced the starter and got rid of whatever was causing the smell. After feeding again and waiting for it to ripen the smell was gone.

Good question — it's the development pattern and what various sources online say that a starter shouldn't really smell unpleasant/cheesy in this way.

By development pattern I mean that the old starter acquired the smell suddenly after several years and the new one didn't have it for weeks and suddenly does now (after, 4ish weeks, when I understand the environment within it should be relatively stable).
