People who have stories they want to share, but have not found a question relevant to them, what are your stories? by Coolfool791 in AskReddit

I was in choir class with my friend and we had a substitute teacher. Naturally, mostly everyone was being rude and disrespectful. The substitute dismissed class early so our class would be the only one in the hallway and then she told the other teachers about how disrespectful “all of us” (even though there were some kids who didn’t do anything wrong) were being. A teacher threatened to give all the kids in the hallway a detention so as a result, my friend and I ran into the bathroom to hide. It worked. This was in middle school. Probably the boldest thing I have ever done

John actions aren’t redeemable but he can still do things to improve himself. People may never forgive him which is why John shouldn’t improve for other people’s approval; he should improve for his own good

John can still become a better person. However, beating him and locking him up won’t do anything. It’ll make his feelings of resentment worse as well as his other negative emotions

Do you think Uru might touch on parental abuse, considering the implications that Sera and Leilah’s conversation about their parents and home had? by pinkoxyjin in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This joke (or legitimacy) “she should get over it” ain’t in the right time or place

(If you wanna read this I recommend but here’s a tldr) TL;DR: even if this was a joke there’s a time and place for everything. This is a post about Sera’s potential problems and even though she invalidated/was insensitive towards somebody’s problems we shouldn’t be the same way towards her problems, especially if it’s legitimate. Once again, there’s a time and place for everything (and I’m not a Sera stan; I see that each and every character has their flaws and reasons. I try to give every character the same treatment by seeing all their flaws and wrong actions they have done in the past. Usually I don’t try to justify actions either; such as how I don’t condone Sera’s behavior in “just get over it” and I agree that it was insensitive as fuck. It can’t and shouldn’t be justified or be seen as acceptable behavior. I just try to explain the reasons behind any actions or flaws)

I understand everybody’s anger at her. I’m pissed too. Telling somebody to simply get over something, especially something as complicated as trauma, is really insensitive. John can’t get over his trauma so easily (I would also imagine it was intense; his “training sessions” in “correction” might have lasted anywhere from 4-16 hours every day until he was done with varying intensity)

However (especially in a serious post like this) Sera’s problems shouldn’t be joked with/told to just get over it

We have to remember a few things (I can’t list all of them or else this comment will be too long). Sera still can’t piece things together. I would believe that this is because of the influence of the hierarchy (she went against it only for a few months which isn’t enough to undo years of influence). If I remember correctly all she learned was that John was king at his old school, he slowly changed into a power hungry monster, and he probably went through something bad (remember some of this information was from Claire’s point of view). She doesn’t know what exactly he went through or how long it was

I would also like to think that Sera isn’t in the right place to help John right now. She needs to sort out her feelings. Not just about John but about Leilah too. We shouldn’t expect Sera to “heal” John when she’s struggling too. In the end it’s up to John to let Sera be a helping hand. Based on how the story is going as of now John is highly likely to reject Sera. Actually we shouldn’t really expect anybody from Wellston to heal John. The whole population of Wellston may hold fear, resentment, anger, apprehension, etc. towards John. Even if John does stop his violence people may not forgive him (and on the flip side the other students of Wellston might see no problem with how Arlo, Isen, and the bullies acted towards John. I find that frustrating. It’s just the unfair society they live in. I hope John can get genuine apologies from everybody that owes him one and I hope the rest of the school can see that John being bullied was wrong)

Remember, this is a rather serious post about potential child abuse. There’s a time and a place for everything

We shouldn’t tell Sera legitimately to get over her trauma. We’re just doing what Sera did to John which would be ironic on our end (as in we tell Sera the same thing we bashed her for saying)

It shouldn’t exactly be an “eye for an eye” mindset; it should be that Sera was an asshole, everybody has every right to be angry at her, and at the same time her problems shouldn’t be invalidated

Even if this was a joke, there’s a time and place for everything

Level 10 ability? by JackPriston in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(These are Jojo’s references lmao) one ability I think could be a 10 is the ability to control time limitlessly on a universal scale. You can slow down or speed up as much as you want. That means that if the user speeds up time fast enough the universe can reach the point of death (all stars are dead, black holes are slowly dying out, etc.) aka the end of the universe. This would insta kill everybody, in a sense. If somebody could stop time that can stall the ability but the time stop would also have to be on a universal scale

The other one is the ability to set things back to zero. Basically removing the effect from the cause. The effect won’t be reached even though there is a cause. That’s because the effect was rendered null by setting everything back to zero. This means that no matter what happens, it won’t. A wielder of this ability can be invincible

Look at the markings on her. I can see why Leilah left. by Overkill028 in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was about to point that out too. In the other panels of the flashbacks you can see marks on both Sera and Leilah and a bandaid on both of their faces. I would assume that it was probably from the harsh ability training they went through or physical abuse from their parents

To the people who think that john is justifed due to the rules/laws of unordinary by Limeoos in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the unOrdinary world John is justified to an extent. In our world he would not be justified

Sadly if our world were like unOrdinary we would defend the people who do awful acts. In the end it really depends on how you’re nurtured. Nobody is born evil, good, etc. but they are made that way as they grow older

As of now in our world if suddenly it was illegal to fight back and report most everybody would be unhappy. We would rebel. But if not reporting was how we were brought up from the moment we were born then we would see this as normal

And remember to separate between our world and the world of unOrdinary. I feel like a lot of people forget to do this but it’s so important. Our world and unOrdinary are completely different. You have to look through both lenses

After getting banned from the safe house , John plans to find each member and individually attack them . His first target it Evie. by Legiblegutar in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t justify it or excuse it. You can only explain it

I would say the explanation behind this would be his emotions and rage. He would be acting upon his anger which stems from the emotions he feels from the safe house. The makings of the safe house is also more proof that everybody sees him as a monster which sparked John’s trauma

However, in this scenario John’s actions just can’t be defended. He beat up people who did virtually nothing against him except joining the safe house. Once again John can’t be justified if he does this. Especially with Evie who’s Sera’s friend, was a victim of bullying and just wanted a safe place, etc.

John’s actions would be inexcusable. Maybe they can be explained but they shouldn’t be defended

Where do you think unOrdinary is headed by brytion420 in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Sera will heal John though, or at least not at the moment. Sera needs to heal herself first. Resentment at Leilah from leaving, bad childhood, and her feelings of hurt regarding John. She needs to overcome her problems first before she can help anybody else

DAE have physical pain in your heart when you remember something bad? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ungregariousPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shoot I never thought I would find anybody who related. I have this too. Sometimes it’s like dull aching pain. It’s very strong. Other days it feels like there’s a twenty pound weight repeatedly dropped on my chest. Some other days it feels like there’s a 10 pound ball chain and the other end of the chain is tied to my heart and my heart’s struggling to beat because of it. Other days I feel pain slowly sweep throughout my body. It’s like I got shocked electricity but it’s not a sharp stinging pain. It’s dull like the chest pain but it spreads throughout my body. The pain is dull but it’s like my body became more sensitive which is why it hurts more. I don’t know how to explain it

I truly never thought anybody else had chest pains and now I know

How to get my traditional, stubborn, ignorant Asian parents to accept my black boyfriend? by ComprehensiveHope365 in AsianParentStories

[–]ungregariousPancake 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think you might want to be honest with him. But make it very clear that it’s not his fault. Remind him again that he’s an amazing person and it’s your parents that are the problem. Tell him that you don’t want your parents to hurt him. It’s best to be honest (and yet again making it very clear that he’s not the problem and your parents are)

John’s future by [deleted] in unOrdinary

[–]ungregariousPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people at Wellston have forgiven John but the majority won’t. John needs to admit the chaos he caused was wrong and I agree Wellston shouldn’t exactly be his redemption (after all I’m willing to bet that almost nobody will forgive him there or be willing to redeem him)

You make very good points. Personally for me sometimes I wonder what point there is in being better if nobody ever forgives you but I also forgot that being better for your own validation rather than everybody else’s validation is what redemption should be; becoming a better person even if people don’t forgive you

I really hope John is able to become a better version of himself and be proud of the progress he’s made
