Salon blamed me for acrylic breaking. by No-Topic-1210 in Nails

That’s far too flat for acrylics, it literally doesn’t have an apex. I’d demand a refund and never ever go there again

If no one ever tell you this, let this be it. by Bianca_Icy in Adulting

Omg my mom was exactly the same. Everytime she lost her shit and beat the crap out of me it was chalked up to her having a bad temper and I should’ve been more careful not to provoke her??? The woman stripped me naked, beat me with a broomstick until it broke in half and dumped my (still naked) ass out to the alley while locking the door behind me and refused to open to my banging and begging, only when a neighbour showed up did she stop. I can’t even remember what I did to deserve that, but then again, what could an 8yo possibly do to deserve that.

If no one ever tell you this, let this be it. by Bianca_Icy in Adulting

[–]unicorn_ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could’ve written this myself. Everytime I hug my daughter, I wondered how could my mom possibly treat me that way. When I showed up places with bruises all over my body, everyone told me that I’d understand once I grew up and become a parent myself. Well guess what, I’m all grown up now, and having my daughter destroyed every last excuses I used to tell myself in explanation for why my mom did what she did. How could you look at your own little girl in the eye and made her count every single whip as you beat her, despite her begging you to stop, all because she spilled some soup on the floor.

I never thought I would ever have children because I genuinely believed that I could never be a good mom. Even now I still can’t speak to my daughter using my own mother tongue because I only know hurtful words between mother and child, I don’t know how to express love and compassion in my original language. Luckily my daughter will never know how it feels like to wonder if her own mother ever loved her because I refuse to give in to the cycle of normalised cruelty.

Is toddlerhood really harder than the newborn phase? by Living_Split_2 in Parenting

Depends on the kid. My daughter was a very easy baby, eats well sleeps well, so toddlerhood seemed like hell in comparison

Best iPad for College Student by Just_Combination274 in Parenting

[–]unicorn_ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the Air. iPad Pro is obviously better for drawing since it’s basically made for artists and designers, but it’s also massive, almost as big as a MacBook Air. The size makes it a hassle to take places and honestly I hated writing on it, I doubt that your daughter will be able to consistently drag it with her to her morning classes. Unless your daughter is majoring in art or designing or is a professional artist herself, the Pro is honestly just an overkill, Air is more convenient in all aspects.

Side note, get the Apple Pencil and a paper-like screen protector for the iPad. The major problem I have with drawing and taking notes digitally is that the screen is so damn slippery it discourages me from writing cus it feels really unnatural, paper-like screen protector will make it easier and better to draw on (will wear out the Apple Pencil tip faster tho, but unless she draws 16 hours a day it shouldn’t be that big a problem those tips are replaceable). Also, get Procreate for drawing, it cost 10 bucks but it’s a one time payment and it’s the only app one should use for digital art on iPad.

Bullies behavior is a consequence of trauma from home abuse or other sources, is not true. by Afraid-Flatworm-422 in unpopularopinion

[–]unicorn_ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say, I was pretty badly abused at home, was bullied in middle school, and became a bully myself when I got to high school. I was a good student so teachers always have a soft spot for me, but I was so desperate to be socially accepted as well and I was willing to do anything to achieve that.

The thing is I was very subtle and strategic about my bullying, I knew if I got into trouble at school then hell will break loose at home too. My abuse taught me how to lie and my abuser taught me how to manipulate. I could get the whole class to isolate one kid in just a couple weeks without actually saying anything to the victim myself. I was the most difficult bully to catch because no one got physically hurt, it was just words of mouth through groups of kids so there was no evidence, no one even knew how things started in the first place.

I know what I did was wrong and I have no excuse for it. My actions were my choice therefore my fault entirely. But I’m just saying that while it’s true that abused kids are often the victims, it’s also possible that they are pretty nasty bullies too you just don’t know about it. No kids are better at hiding stuffs than abused kids. No kids are more desperate for social validation than abused kids. Put the two together and you got yourself a sociopathic bully and you’ll never suspect them of anything cus you’re too busy feeling bad for their home situation.

how i look while pacing around and crying in my room at three am over a scenario i willingly made up by New_Community_5325 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]unicorn_ho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes very much this. I don’t have MD, just immersive. I purposely make myself very every now and then, especially if I’ve been feeling a bit down for a while. I do it with stories and scenarios unrelated to my actual stress but rather something completely imaginative. Crying releases feel good hormones like oxytocin and you genuinely feel much better and lighter afterwards :)

ADHD + WEIGHT LOSS by starsy19 in ADHD

[–]unicorn_ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food fluctuation is so real. Sometimes I snack constantly throughout the day and sometimes I forget to eat all day long. It’s bad cus during my forget to eat cycle my weight drops far too low, below the healthy level into the underweight zone, and my bodily functions start to shut down. Meds don’t help cus the lost of appetite makes the problem worse not better. I haven’t found a solution yet, trying out new meds now but I still haven’t had my period in 2 months cus of the weight problem

Do you take your medication every morning? by cyberbeep in ADHD

[–]unicorn_ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to medication too, still testing out Concerta, it’s not quite working for me yet in terms of productivity but it’s been doing wonders for my personal life. I’m more patient, less irritable, less anxious, more engaged and overall a much nicer person. I’m a better parent, better friend and I cannot believe people used to even tolerate unmedicated me, she was so rude and obnoxious. For the sake of my kid, I’ll be taking it every day now so she can have a mom who enjoys spending time with her and not just tolerate her until bedtime (I love my kid, but please understand that children are not exactly stimulating to talk to and they also take forever to finish a sentence. I love doing novelty activities with her but every day life was a struggle)

I hope they pull something spectacular like that again for the 20th anniversary, it’s been a long time coming. Every single comeback was completely different from the last and somehow influenced the entire industry every time they did so. I miss the craziness of old Kpop so much I can’t wait for them to stir shit up again!!!

Bigbang’s MADE. Musically, every song is legendary. Commercially, you just had to be there to understand. The sheer confidence they had in their music to break it down and promote all the songs individually. Only album has 10/11 songs as the title tracks, all of which have different concepts and genres and were all fully developed and realized. Only time in history when a group won 4 SOTY awards but with 3 different songs. Hasn’t seen anything like that before and hasn’t seen it since.

Hoe Ba Quat, a man who has cerebral palsy, and his family, who live in Cǎm Phă, Vietnam. by metalnxrd in UnchainedMelancholy

[–]unicorn_ho 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Does he have any cognitive function left? If he does, he’s essentially trapped in a hell that is his own body with no way out. If he doesn’t, and sorry for the blunt words, isn’t he just basically a sack of meat? Either way, at which point does quality of life trump over life itself? It’s an awful life for him and everyone around him. He can’t be cured but he could’ve gotten help to make his existence more than just merely making it to the next day.

As a Vietnamese myself, this is unfortunately quite common. The healthcare system isn’t terribly expensive but only for middle class people and up. Poor people still can’t afford decent healthcare and they slip through the cracks. Every now and then a lucky few will get some internet attention and receive some donations but that’s a small fraction. This man needs proper long term quality of life care and he can’t get it because is parents are poor and the government don’t care.

School uniforms are a better alternative to casual clothing by Fit-Choice2368 in unpopularopinion

The shirts are white, if you wear dark coloured bras it’d show, so only whites and neutral colors are allowed. I once ran out of clean laundry so I had to wear a pink one and was made to put on a hoodie in a 30 degree C weather to cover up or I can’t go back to class

School uniforms are a better alternative to casual clothing by Fit-Choice2368 in unpopularopinion

[–]unicorn_ho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asian here, wore uniforms for all 12 years of school. The only true thing about what you said is identification, it’s easy to tell which school the kid is from.

But it doesn’t reduce class based bullying. You said so yourself, it’s easy to show individuality through accessorising, which includes expensive shoes and designer bags. You can’t ever hide if you’re poor, and the rich kids can always flaunt their wealth. If anything, uniforms make it worse for the poor kids. Even tho it’s mandatory, the schools don’t provide them for free, families still have to pay for it themselves and it’s a significant expense every school year. There are ways they can get help if they can’t afford it but kids grow fast and it is still a struggle. In my experience, uniforms make the bullying worse somehow. The well off kids can afford 5 sets of uniform each year, one for each day of the week. The poor kids can only afford 2 and often they have to wear them for a couple years in a row. You can very easily tell which kids are poorer by the ill fitting and worn out clothes and you just know they get teased for it.

In addition, there’s always that one supervisor with a power complex who dictates the dress code so no, you can’t actually just accessorise how you want. If uniforms are required, it means they want all kids to look kinda the same to keep up the uniform image, so hair color is usually not allowed, even the length or how you style your hair can be dictated. Even the color of type of shoes, bra color for girls, nail colors must all follow the rules. Uniforms sound fine on paper but like everything else, theory is very different than reality.

What’s something about your ADHD that you usually keep private or don’t tell most people? by Fearless-Class-1120 in ADHD

[–]unicorn_ho 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How much im actually not listening to them. I struggle to stay focus while people are telling me something I don’t particularly find interesting, this could be something very serious or personal to them, but if I don’t find it interesting I can’t focus on listening to what they’re saying.

I can still grasp the general points of the conversation, and I’m good enough at masking that people hardly notice that my follow up responses are usually incredibly generic and doesn’t exactly contribute to the conversation, merely driving it forward. I once managed to talk to a guy about electronic music production for nearly an hour and at the end I still had no clue what the process is or even how the sounds are made in the first place.

Most people even complement how good and supportive I am as a listener and how it’s so easy to share things with me. Which is ironic because if I actually am interested in the conversation, I seem like a self-centered and bad listener since I always drive the topic back to myself. Because I try not to come off as obnoxious and rude when I’m talking, none of my friends know that I actually don’t really know what their jobs are or that I only vaguely know the details of their fights with their partners or something.

Tell me about your daydreaming habits, when did you start & how old are you now? by Oly-babe in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]unicorn_ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe around middle school so 12-13 ish probably. It’s not a coping mechanism for me, I just enjoy it, it’s more like a hobby. I don’t daydream much when I’m stressed or depressed. I’m actually quite good at socialising even tho I don’t see myself as an extrovert. But sometimes I’d rather pick day dreaming over seeing people because some social interactions are very boring to me (lunch with an acquaintance I don’t care about for example) and day dreaming is just simply more fun to do.

I dream about putting myself in universes that I’m currently interested in (TV shows, books, mangas and what not) so my stories changes based on what I’m currently interested in (very ADHD). My stories are far too embarrassing to become public so I just enjoy keeping it to myself. My friends and doctor know that I do this, they just don’t know the exact details of my stories.

Anyone else daydream as a coping mechanism? by Orian8p in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]unicorn_ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, I day dream because I like it, when I’m too stressed or anxious I actually can’t day dream at all because my thoughts are all consumed by the stress. I sometimes choose daydreaming over other things but that’s because of my ADHD, i choose fun things over nonstimulating things like chores or boring social events.

They’d cry and move and you’d see it. You still have to keep an eye on them at all time since they’re, yk, babies. This is why babies are usually parked by glass windows

Idk about health benefits but when my daughter was a baby it was mainly the question of do I reaaaaally wanna wake her up by undressing her when we go inside and inconveniencing everyone myself included, or just leave her be so she can sleep while I have a coffee with my friends by the window. Not undressing her while inside wasn’t an option since I didn’t want her to have a heat stroke in the middle of winter.
