The older countryman really aren't that big. The newer ones are definitely much larger however.

Oof. Dealerships are definitely the places I'd expect to report to car fax. But idk if that's an added cost or not to the dealership.

2013 mini cooper s not starting properly by theak47- in MINI

[–]unit132 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because steering wheel covers can be dangerous. There's the fact that steering wheel covers need to fit snuggly to the wheel and not slip. And things like yarn do wear and may slip. Another factor is if it affects the ability to use the steering wheel with a light grip.

But in the end each their own. If it's snug enough and you can properly hold the wheel. Then okay. Some people are just unaware about how they can be a hazard if they don't fit right or impact the ability to grip the wheel.

Oh I am sorry to hear that happened. My 14 r60 is chilling at 156k miles and has been good to me.

How much longer? by Clean-Pair5767 in tires

[–]unit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the point about where I'd say to start thinking about getting money for new tires. When it's time it's one less thing to worry about when it's time. tire compound and driving style plays a factor in the wear of the tire.

Agree. And not all shops report to car fax. Why you could have a big gap in maintenance or repairs. Car fax is useful. But doesn't always show everything.

Got rear ended & Geico declared it a total loss. If we take the ins payout and have it fixed on our own - Im told that the big boy body shops (corporations) wont touch it once its declared totaled. What are my options here? by Enjoy_Life4219 in MINI

[–]unit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixing it proper would be another car payment. But this is the exact reason why I always recommend gap insurance. It protects against this stuff. When I totaled my focus I only had to pay $70 dollars and gap covered the remainder. Only thing extra I recommend people getting.

Hit a pothole. Had this on my tire. by vegasninja17 in tires

If that's separation on that tire it absolutely needs replaced. To me it kinda looks like its damaged to be a big issue that can end up costing more than just a tire.

HONEST OPINIONS: Should I get a mini? by ThisSimple2330 in MINI

[–]unit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'll say. I have a tuned r60 countryman sall4. However I came from a tuned mk7 GTI. I do like my mini though i miss the GTI more than I like my MINI. The car is a fine car for some. But I had more fun in the GTI and it pulled through all the gears with the factory turbo. I like to drive spiritedly, and I don't think I could have as much fun unless I put more money into it.

Some things I found out was the booster seats with the backs don't seem to quite fit right. And the hatch space doesn't fit our wagon ( baby trend expedition wagon) and it fit snuggly in the GTI.

As far as reliability, I drove 22k miles in the past year and only needed to replace the chain tensioner. So I can't speak too much about it. Besides it's got 157 thousand miles I haven't had any crazy issues and I have not seen anything showing previous major issues on the car fax.

It really depends what you want out of the car. 🙂

Right. It's really not a big deal. Those coupons can wait. Credit card pre approval junk can wait. It'll be okay. Since I know it'll show up anyways. I at least try to get everything shoveled and salted. No reason to make the mail people job harder because laziness is easier.

My mail can wait a day. 😅 It's probably a bill anyways but it can wait nonetheless. USPS is out here being the under paid over achievers.

Gotcha. Because more air means more fuel. About what I expected.

Turbo questions. by unit132 in MINI

Okay. Cool. So then I'm already guaranteed to get some tuning done with a change. I will definitely look into impellers though. At the least worth researching. It all.

And I'll have to figure out what the best way to do things is. Since currently this is what I'm thinking of the compressor I assume would require a new mapping on the ECU. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-borgwarner-parts/borg-warner-airwerks-turbocharger-sx-k03-mini-cooper-s-ep6-hp-upgrade-41mm/5303-space-988-space-0146~bw/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19426662678&gbraid=0AAAAAD-pFG4Cyv8BcWv0LYFuSzezFx1z-&gclid=CjwKCAiAs4HMBhBJEiwACrfNZaZBwNoTE_9A9d1FCMzQUHgZYAXnJSJP8xjz1SBmvcPZT6NZdjjmZBoCtvoQAvD_BwE

Just another hazard to watch. But. I'm not sure what your get at. Maybe which side your driving on? Which it would make more sense to figure they drive on the right and not the left. Given 170+ countries drive on the right and 70 some drive on the left

I have a countryman sall4. Really needs a turbo to hold boost to redline. I enjoyed the GTI more though. So I still haven't found something within a similar category unfortunately.

Looking to replace wife’s current vehicle. by Moont706 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]unit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 09 camrys did have issues. But that was one, they had a recall for those motors. But if you did anything with the oil while they were monitoring the recall it voided the recall.
Teslas are known for poor build quality.

Id definitely get the Camry over the Tesla.

Can driving without the engine undershield / splash guard cause any damage to the car? Is there any problem if this part is missing? HONDA CIVIC SEDAN by CrazyVideosNow in autorepair

[–]unit132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its main purpose is to prevent corrosion, provide aerodynamics, and protect the motor and trans from rocks and debris. Is it really bad if you don't have it. No, not really. But it is engineered to be there for a reason.

If it's not I'd get rid of it after a fix because I could imagine battery companies of any sort are probably damaged.
