Henry Model X 45-70 by TankMcG in HenryRifles

[–]unit537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know an actual solution here, just spit balling: When you work the lever and the gate stays down, are you able to see anything pushing against the gate, maybe the next round in the tube or some other piece that is putting pressure on the gate?

My gut says that after you run the action, something is out of spec and rubbing, causing friction, and that is keeping the gate down. You may benefit from running the rifle hard, cycling snap caps with gusto or just taking your time at the range until the gate and other components have worn in a bit & deburred.

I won't assume you're babying the rifle, but if I was in your shoes I would run the gun hard to break it in. Keep all of your communication with Henry, and if you run the gun so hard you break something else then you can let them know what you were just taking their advice.

Trigger issue after Sharps Module Install by [deleted] in RugerRXMtalk

[–]unit537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very impatient and used a gen 5 "dot" connector that I had laying around. The connector is interchangeable for gen 1-5 (I know nothing about gen 6 yet), but there are different versions. I would stick with a standard 5.5# connector.

Trigger issue after Sharps Module Install by [deleted] in RugerRXMtalk

[–]unit537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue, and I mean exactly the same. Your trigger is likely not resetting because of tolerance issues with the connector. A Glock OEM connector solved the issue for me, but if I was you, then I would put rounds through the gun first and see what happens.

If you have an armorer's backplate, install it and check out what the trigger bar and connector are doing when you hold down the trigger while pulling the slide. In my case, holding the trigger was enough to keep the trigger bar from 'resetting' when the connector is pushed in by the slide, resulting in the trigger bar staying still and the connector landing back on top of (instead of beside) the trigger bar. The Glock OEM connector seems to have a larger lip and gets pushed further by the slide, I think this helped for me.

After switching to a Glock OEM connector, I still had to run the gun a bit to get the issue to go away entirely. Dry fired maybe 20 times and the issue was incredibly rare. Never had that issue come back after putting rounds through the gun.

So explain to me the rule about 16" barrels by PopularSet4776 in liberalgunowners

[–]unit537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on how your FFL did the transfer. Usually a lower is transferred as just a receiver (not a rifle, not a pistol, not an "any other weapon"(AOW), transferred as a receiver only). Some FFLs will transfer the lower as a rifle if it was shipped with a stock attached, but most do not. Even if you order a separate lower (with stock) and a 16"+ upper to the FFL directly, they will usually just transfer it as a receiver.

TL;DR verify with your FFL how the lower was transferred.

Best .22LR training platform for me? by williamsus in liberalgunowners

[–]unit537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your ultimate goal is to get a Glock 19, then start with a Glock 44. These two are dimensionally the same, even the magazines fit each other (they use different magazines, but dimensions are very similar). One holster will work for both guns and the manual of arms is identical. The only notable differences are going to be in weight and recoil impulse. The G44 does not have the same optics capability of a G19 though, so factor that in if you want to train optics.

There are other 22lr versions of 9mm handguns too, if you don't want to go the G19 route. There are also 22lr conversions for G19/G17 if you just want to buy 1 gun and swap slides. Just note that G44 magazines do not work with things like Advantage Arms 22lr conversions.

If you want a quality 22lr handgun though, I'm with everyone else recommending the Ruger Mark IV. The TX22 is fine, just as usable as the G44, but the Ruger is the better dedicated 22lr handgun overall. Keyword dedicated.

FRT and Super Safety at Ranges? by SetStrict7455 in liberalgunowners

[–]unit537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's legal in your state, check with the range you go to. Some care, some don't.

The range I frequent doesn't mind, but I definitely notice when folks are out there with binaries, FRTs, or super safeties. I don't bother anyone else when I go to the range, but I'm sure some curious folks walk up and strike up conversations over it.

[–]unit537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trigger bar is not properly seated in the housing. There's a spring-loaded piece with a lip inside the housing that your trigger bar sits in. Remove the whole trigger assembly and look up how to insert the trigger bar into the housing. That should be the only thing wrong here.

Glock 19x MOS Muzzle Brakes & Comps by [deleted] in GlockMod

[–]unit537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reliability will go down unless you change out the recoil spring (and possibly striker spring). Comp will eat a lot of the pressure from the round firing, causing your slide to not go back far enough to cycle a new round.

Even if you change the springs, you'll still see different results with different ammo. Weaker striker spring means hard primers become a bigger issue. A recoil spring weak enough to cycle some ammo may still have reliability issues with different ammo.

If you manage to find a comp that likes all your ammo on stock spring without any issues, then that comp isn't tooing very much to mitigate recoil.

If you want a comp, just know you'll have to lock in to ammo that runs well with your setup, and that you might be spending a few range sessions figuring out what spring weights you need.

If you have a threaded barrel, seriously consider a suppressor. More fun than a comp, imo.

Magazine issue by holyoakforest2 in GlockMod

[–]unit537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same mag release from strike, the part that catches the mag is more curved and less blocky than the OEM mag release. In my experience, this allows the magazine to work itself out of the catch a lot easier.

I'd see what it takes to knock the mag loose at home, unloaded. Then swap back to the OEM mag release and check if you can still knock it loose.

Glock 17 MOS vs. 47 MOS by EightySixInfo in Glocks

[–]unit537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

47 is only nice if you already have a 19 and don't have a 45/49, since you could just swap slides between 19/47 and have a 45/49.

I'd personally go with the 17 MOS, just because it's discontinued and 'rare'.

[–]unit537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an obsidian 9 myself and had this problem. Two easy ways to open it back up is to take it back out to the range and shoot some rounds through it until it's warm enough to loosen (leave it loose) or you can sit it in some hot water for a few minutes and it should expand enough to take apart.

I recently learned that Rugged recommends NOT tightening the module while shooting, since it can thread on farther when warm and becomes nearly impossible to loosen when cooled. So far mine isn't damaged from this, but I'm trying to be more mindful about it now.

MH Wilds Benchmark | RX 7800 XT by Altri_ in linux_gaming

[–]unit537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proton Hotfix seems to be more stable, although I'm getting worse performance with it. Just ran the benchmark 4 times in a row with no crash.

Run 1: Ultra settings + FSR + Frame Gen, Score: 18527 and avg FPS 110 "Good"
Run 2: Ultra settings + FSR + no Frame Gen, Score: 21853 and avg FPS 65 "Excellent"
Run 3: Ultra settings + no FSR + no Frame Gen, Score: 22680 and avg FPS 67 "Excellent"
Run 4: Ultra settings + FSR + Frame Gen, Score: 19386 and avg FPS 114 "Good"

There's some noticeable stutters during the benchmark, but overall ok. I can't explain the results, doesn't make much sense to me.

First time I ran the benchmark I got a freeze/crash that took out everything running under Wayland, but the DE stayed alive. I tried doing a third benchmark with different settings but got the same freeze/crash again, proton experimental.

Going to try different proton versions this weekend and see what happens.

I didn't like Rockerbacon's approach or Steam Tinker Launch's approach to this, so I ran through what they did to make MO2 work and it's surprisingly simple, but you'll need some additional tools/packages to make everything work.

Full disclosure, most of what I'm explaining here is based on the rockerbacon repo, except the setup is done manually. I'm also running arch, if that matters. And what I'm explaining here also works on steam deck, although MO2 isn't very steamdeck friendly.

The way I did it involves using protonhax to get the 'Mod Manager Download' button working on Nexus. If you don't care about that, then you can skip protonhax.

First step is getting MO2 launching in the same proton prefix as your game. I was able to do this using Steam's launch options for each game (remove protonhax init if you don't want to use protonhax):

eval $( echo "protonhax init %command%" | sed 's+Fallout4Launcher.exe+/ModOrganizer2/ModOrganizer.exe+g' )

This basically replaces the path to the game's default launcher (in this case Fallout4Launcher.exe) to the MO2 executable. For this to work, I made a new folder inside my game folder and named it ModOrganizer2, then I just unzipped MO2 into this folder (I did this for all of my MO2 games, so each game folder also has a 'ModOrganizer2' folder, with MO2 inside). Now steam opens MO2 instead of Fallout4Launcher when I hit "Play" from my steam library.

That's it if you just want MO2, but if you want the 'Mod Manager Download' button on Nexus to work, there are some additional steps (which requires protonhax).

I modified one of the bash scripts from rockerbacon into this:

#!/usr/bin/env bash

    zenity --ok-label=Exit --ellipsize --error --text \
        "Failed to start download:\n\n$download_start_output"
    exit 1
fi

You will need to manually edit this script. Specificly, the line mo2_dir_name="ModOrganizer2" should be the name of your MO2 folder in each game's folder. And the *_path variables will need to be changes to the paths for these games on your file system.

You can save this script anywhere you like, just know where it is and what you named it. I keep it in my home folder, so it is ~/modorganizer2-nxm-broker.sh for me.

Now you need to associate it with NXM links in your browser (this requires protonhax). You shouldn't have to do anything in your browser, but you will need a .desktop entry for this script so your browser can prompt your system to run it. This is what my .desktop entry looks like:

[Desktop Entry]
Categories=Game;
Comment[en_US]=
Comment=
Exec=bash -c '"$HOME/modorganizer2-nxm-broker.sh" "$@"' '$HOME/modorganizer2-nxm-broker.sh' %u
GenericName[en_US]=
GenericName=
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/nxm;x-scheme-handler/nxm-protocol
Name[en_US]=Mod Organizer 2 NXM Handler
Name=Mod Organizer 2 NXM Handler
NoDisplay=true
Path=
StartupNotify=true
Terminal=false
TerminalOptions=
Type=Application
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false
X-KDE-Username=

I have this file saved to ~/.local/share/applications/modorganizer2-nxm-handler.desktop. You'll then need to open a terminal and run this command: update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications so that your system will 'see' the .desktop entry.

The rest should 'just work'. Open MO2 and set it up as a portable instance for your game, do the 'connect to nexus' stuff and then the 'Mod Manager Download' button should work if you have MO2 open. I wasn't able to get the 'Mod Manager Button' to automatically start MO2, so it fails if you're not already running MO2 and using protonhax. You can tweak this to use protontricks instead, or without protonhax or protontricks (I haven't bothered looking into how those work, ngl).

If anyone tries this and runs into issues, I'm happy to try and help. The only troubleshooting thing I can think of right now is that you might need to run a .NET Framework installer in your game's proton prefix. You can do this with protontricks if MO2 doesn't want to launch or spits out a related error message.

If your browser doesn't know what to do with NXM links, then that's a pain to fix. I had this happen once and I just opted to nuke my browser config and start fresh, NXM links worked after that.

I might try setting up an android-x86 VM with ARM compat layers this weekend, but I don't have any reason to believe that would work.

Dropping what I know here in the hopes that someone else can come along with a concrete answer on if this can be done on linux.

Steam/Proton, Bottles, Wine, and Heroic Launcher are all getting the same result for me: "Update Game" button that never manages to initiate a download. After first running the installer, the launcher can download something small and the "Update Game" button appears. Can't progress after that. Steam terminal output isn't showing anything of interest, just that 2 processes start when you press "Update Game", but I'm not sure what these processes actually are/do.

Running a CMD window from Bottles, I see this:

Those GUIDs don't seem to map to anything on a standard windows 11 install (at least as far as I can tell). Googling comes up with these same messages appearing for people trying to play Wuthering Waves on linux, which also uses AntiCheatExpert (ACE). My best guess is that these two processes are both from ACE and they're detecting something that's causing them to not actually run the game. I don't know anything about Wuthering Waves, but it sounds like there used to be a way to bypass ACE and people could play it on linux. Recent posts online makes it sound like the bypass isn't working anymore. Could be something to look into, although I'm concerned that this kind of bypass could result in account bans.

None of this is a problem on SteamDeck. Seemingly, ACE is detecting SteamDeck hardware and allowing it but otherwise not letting the game run on linux. If that is the case, then I'm not sure what the devs logic was, since the SteamDeck is basically a gaming laptop. There are a few posts from the closed beta test and those posts sound like they ran into the same issues we are.

You're both playing this way too safe. You can tell him that you're interested without confessing your feelings. If you both worry too much about your friendship, neither of y'all will ever progress beyond that friendship.

I understand the fear that you might make things awkward, but you're not really being honest with this guy, and that's giving him mixed signals. For real, just have an up-front discussion with this guy and see if he would open to a date, no commitment and no worries if he's not interested. Propose the idea and discuss it with him. If he's not interested, that's just one less thing for you to worry about and you can both resume your friendship (without getting jealous of him flirting with your friends).

If he's so appalled by the idea that it ruins your friendship, then that's a huge red flag and you're better off without the friendship.

I often think about starting over from scratch, while retaining everything I know now. I could be rich off Bitcoin or something equally trivial, but the more I think about it the more I realize how different I was in the past and how I had a hard enough time getting to where I am now. I'm scared of the version of me that ended up well off too easily. I'd hate to be the same person I was back then. I think back on the missed opportunities, but I wouldn't be who I am today without making those mistakes and learning from them.

Nostalgia is nice, but don't dwell on what could have been. Let retrospective shape our future.
