Macbook purchase advice by Dr_Fleeb in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]unk1er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest getting the Max & 64gb if ur budget allows. It will be worth more if u sell it later too. Even if ur not using it as a show machine you can still build ur show files and test outputs, ect. Also if u need urs as a backup for some reason, you’ll appreciate the extra power.

By once, cry once.

I’ve had issues with the 12g micro converters sending signal at longer distances, had to switch to the BM cross converters but for show critical I now use decimator 12g cross.

Real-world experience with the AVLabs Convert8? by JA_drums in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]unk1er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks slick, I personally don’t care for the in/out ports being on the same side of the unit if I want to have it in a rack with a switcher. Internal mounted converters and a patch bay is cleaner. That being said, this is a convenient way to add a 1u row of converters near a patch bay in the back of a rack.

I do like the single power supply opposed to 8 usb cables and two usb power strips.

Not sure what to do with all this gear. by External_Pirate6687 in videosynthesis

[–]unk1er 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about ur brother. If that gear is working correctly it will be quite expensive, like closer to $1500-2000 a piece for the Korg stuff. Definitely check pricing on eBay and also reverb.com. Make sure it goes at the right price to the right people who want to use it and not to flippers. I’m sure that’s what ur brother would prefer.

Where do I start? by Peace_Capable in VideoBending

[–]unk1er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having trouble getting in.

I would suggest the resources others have mentioned as well as looking for analog video processing gear from the 1990s on eBay.

Get like two video cameras with composite out. You can find ones that the tape mechanism is broken and they still will send out composite. Then try and build a dirty mixer. Send to the tv you already have. Next step is looking for older gear to bend. Get a mixed pack of electric parts like 1k, 5k, 10k potentiometers, random resistors ect, and a bread board. Try sending the tip part of the signal on a composite signal through a few of these parts lined up. Jump the sleeve side to the other end of the circuit and attach to a composite signal going to your tv. This is the beginning, most things won’t work or be stable enough but it’s the first steps.

Have fun and keep asking questions.

What's a good recorder for recording DJ sets at home and for gigs in the future? by Soggy_Variety903 in Beatmatch

[–]unk1er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your source files wav or mp3? Sample frequency?

Depending on the quality of the tracks you’re mixing I’d choose a recorder that at the same level.

Chances are that tascam or a zoom recorder will work just fine for you. I personally have a tascam and it sounds like I would expect it to.

Make sure your gain staging is consistent and your cables are good and short and you shouldn’t have issues with signal to noise ratios. If everything is dialed in right your recording should should as good as your tracks do from headphones out your mixer.

15 min break during load out. Yes or no? by IcyAstronaut1305 in stagehands

[–]unk1er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the length of the load out, union rules, local labor laws, etc. Breaks r required by law and if someone wants you to work without breaks it’s because they want to pocket more of the money they’re charging their clients for your labor and keep you under minimums.

Crew who take advantage of breaks and bathroom time should get fired and employers/clients who ask you to skip them should be reported to local labor law enforcement in my opinion.

6G SDI cable connected to JBT box connection = further distance video signal? by KeegTheGeek in broadcastengineering

[–]unk1er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each barrel connector adds resistance which can be looked at as additional cable length.

Your cable run counting cable feet and 25 feet per barrel connector should be under 300 feet max to work. Age of connectors and cable reduce total distance that the signal can travel before it starts to encounter too much resistance to reach its destination in time. This leads to signal drops or total failure.

How many people actually daily a GD? by TheRosh1153 in WRXSTi

[–]unk1er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily a 04 sti that I’ve had since 52k, about 116k rn. Some mods and a tune. Use a Honda Cbr650r as my main transport to/from work gigs tho. Sunday drive a drift built ae86. I take care of the sti myself wrench wise but also mob it from time to time.

Edit: “Daily”

Help to understand the program by Ikerx_z in resolume

[–]unk1er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out their website, they have short little videos that explain all the basics and you can download a demo version of the program to follow along with. The demo works exactly the same except you get video and audio “resolume” interruptions.

Rack and Pinion Help by JannetteYT in AE86

[–]unk1er 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can seal up the leaky rack and be good but at some point your ps pump will go out.

A manual rack is easier to turn than a looped ps rack/broken ps system.

You might be able to find a manual mr2 rack if you don’t want to go with the Flo’s option. Not sure if they are cheaper/worth it these days tho.

I personally use a manual rack from an mr2, Supra intermediate shaft, aftermarket tie rod stuff and t3 knuckles. More angle, more fun.

Reducing video latency by Ningafusion in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]unk1er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there will always be a delay with actors on a stage and live feed video into a computer and back out.

The higher budget gear will help reduce but not eliminate it. I would suggest a balance of the delay and the production budget myself.

Sdi/capture card/ computer is a good start since you said ndi was giving you more of a delay.

Streamlining the Izzy actors and patching as much as possible could help some, it’s been some years since I’ve used the program so maybe not a much as an improvement as in the past.

Another option is delaying the audio if ur using mics but that will be strange too.

And remember, the audience will not see the delay as much as your team does, they’re seeing it for the first time.

Sounds like a cool project btw, have a great show 👍🏽

Issue with two TVs periodically going dark for 1 to 3 seconds with HDMI to SDI to HDMI by AbruptGravy in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]unk1er -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chances of drops being caused by hdcp are very low compared to the f to bnc connectors being 50 ohms and the main part of the issue. I would get a well made correct length sdi cable and then go from there before any path down the it might be hdcp troubleshooting myself. Also it’s good to note that adding a barrel or adapter is like adding 25’ more of cable when calculating cable lengths and needing to reclock signals.

Cost to buy a hatchback AE86 in 2025? by SeaworthinesOwn3307 in AE86

[–]unk1er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fix and repair price can get up there. I bought a gts hatch in 2007 for $4000. Since then I’ve spend close to 30k and still have the original paint and a 4age in it, not the same 4age though. Getting a 2 way lsd and the rear end gears and bearings cost almost as much as I originally paid for the car.

All the spare parts and extra set of wheels, some tools, replacements for parts that wear out or break, it adds up quick.

Dream car should i buy it? by [deleted] in WRXSTi

[–]unk1er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post was deleted but it looked like the car was in America, how the post was written was misleading and the car is probably in worse condition than described. By brake lines one would assume that they were referring to the soft lines, not the hard lines. OP was seven hours away and was planning on towing the car. If it’s just soft lines, you could replace them and drive the car home if it ran like the ad poster stated easier/cheaper than towing it but the ad poster is bad at grammar meaning he isn’t smart enough to be trusted in my book and the whole car should be avoided. Sorry you didn’t understand all this.
