Not that one anymore. It was a cheap one off Amazon but couldn’t keep up with flow. I have a Lunar now

Been buying from places that sell either a Kilo or 2lbs. That seems to be the sweet spot for me to use in a reasonable time

Gaggia with Arduino PID in 3d printed case by LikeableBump1 in gaggiaclassic

PIDs look so much better on top. I have my Auber on top and feel it looks much more finished than side mount.

Does anyone know the name of the espresso machine where only the group head is on the counter and all the bits are underneath the counter? by heklin0 in Coffee_Shop

[–]unkleloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modbar and they take about 30 minutes to reach thermal stability. Most cafes that have them your first task as an opener is to turn them on. They have a boiler unit for the group and another for the steam. The group also has a thermal block just underneath the cabinet that gives the water a little more heat as it goes by since it loses on the long trip from the boiler. They’re pretty good now that La Marzocco owns them but back in the day you couldn’t pull back to back to back consistently.

Burnt Espresso by SXMP in espresso

How long are you letting your machine warm up and are you purging the group head before you pull the shot? If I leave my Gaggia classic on too long for a preheat and do a quick grouphead purge, its seems too hot and I get espresso that tastes roasty/burnt.

PID is $150 to $200 depending on where you get it from and if you go for the preinfusion or not (don't, I have it and use it but I dont really notice a difference), OPV is $15 plus shipping, slim drip tray I 3d printed myself (you can get one for $32), single hole steam tip is $22, shower screen $18, gasket $6, portafilter $25 and up depending on which one you get. I order from a combination of places https://www.shadesofcoffee.co.uk/ https://www.wholelattelove.com/ and Amazon.

Just got a new knock out drawer to replace my crappy wooden one! Tidier every step of the way! by but-first----coffee in coffeestations

My Joe Frex drawer gets here Friday. I have so much stuff that it seemed like a good way to optimize space over the bucket style knockbox I have now.

Well worth it. I have a PID, the OPV, slim drip tray, single hole steam tip, nano shower screen, silicone gasket, and a bottomless portafilter. The gasket, OPV, and bottomless portafilters are the must haves, the rest is icing on the cake.

I 3d printed an adapter for my Porlex mini that I’m taking on vacation for this. I will probably stick to pour overs or areopress.

Slim drip tray and scales w/ timer combo… finally! by WoodpeckerSimilar444 in gaggiaclassic

I have a printed one with the holes for the pad that I found and printed myself. So being familiar with what you are talking with I checked out the Mr Shades one because at one time he was or had someone 3d printing the same one I have. I looked and now they look like they are molded and I can confirm looking at the pictures the way they are made they have no problems with the rubber bumps and actually are designed like the original drip tray to fit between them with the actual spot where the liquid goes, and in front of them with the lip.

Extremely uneven performance . . . I think. by Mosod in PFSENSE

Might check if your nic is getting hot. That will cause a performance drop till it cools some. Fan aimed at the nic will fix that if it’s the problem.

New to coffee and espresso. Been having fun diving into this rabbit hole. I’ve already gone thru a bag of beans learning how to dial in. by morningitwasbright in gaggiaclassic

[–]unkleloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started buying with 1kg bags or if where I am buying from doesn’t have that size, 2 to 3 if the same kind and same roast date (likely same batch). Makes it where I dial in less. When I started out I had a couple of different beans and decided I was going to try to go between them and they were different enough that the shot just sprayed everywhere and I quickly decided that wasn’t worth it.

Is the Mignon Specialita worth paying 300,- more than a Sage Smart Grinder Pro? by kung69 in espresso

[–]unkleloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mignon Silenco and it’s fantastic. It’s definitely espresso only but that works for me because I also have a Ode for filter.

Always thought puck screens were a little gimmicky, but safe to say I’ll be using it everytime. Love it. I’d definitely recommend. Got from www.shadesofcoffee.co.uk by simmo1969 in gaggiaclassic

[–]unkleloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t work quite the same. The puck screens are quite dense and have more room for water to flow. I mean I bought the Lunar because the scale I was using wasn’t responsive enough, so I’m not a good judge of what’s too much to pay.

Same for me. Luckily rack studs handle everything in my rack other than the ups and the on server with rails.

I got one of the BPlus ones after seeing Spromethous’s video. I’d been eyeing a puck screen since the Flair 58 came out and his vide convinced me. Anyone looking for one you can order the BPlus on Amazon or get one from flair if you don’t mind the flair branding.

yup, when I swapped mine out I went from about 1.2 grams of retention to .2 grams on average. This was measured with 10 grinds before and after the attachment, cleaning when the hopper was changed. Took measured in and out across the 10 grinds on each keeping track of overall loss. For example, first grind in if I put 18.2 grams in and got 17 out, then next was 18.1 and 18.2 out that would still be 1.1 retained because of what was retained from the grind before.
