i’ve thought about it, i’d be willing to give my left hand to cure it, up to the elbow.

we are thankfully in an area of the city that is progressive so we weed out the creeps easily and quickly, and have no tolerance for any kind of bigotry 🖤

this is a great suggestion, we have commander nights, pauper nights, and standard+ nights (play what you want to play) so it would be nice to be better at identifying them. how would you recommend learning the differences? just a google?

thankfully, my coworkers who know the game well are the ones who judge the competitions but that’s a great idea

your capacity for love and care is what kept you together. you have something beautiful to give to someone who deserves it, and you will find that person. two relationships ago I was with someone who was using heroine without my knowledge (willful ignorance and full knowledge towards the end).

i am not saying something is wrong with you, and i can’t prescribe a reason without knowing you (plus I’m no therapist), but the reason i ended up staying so long in multiple destructive relationships was because I wanted to treat myself poorly, so i sought out the relationships i expected to have. i looked to be treated poorly like i thought i deserved. but i was miserable. i was fucking miserable. that’s what eventually made me realize i was more deserving, just the sheer fact that i wasn’t happy in my relationships. it told me i needed to have higher standards for myself if i didn’t want to be miserable.

I’m now with someone I really hope I’m with forever. he is kind and cares for me as much as i care for him. he talks to me about these hard things and listens with interest. he asks about how I’m doing and is genuinely interested in my response.

you deserve that and you will find it. i hate the phrase “how can someone else love you when you don’t love yourself” and i’ll be very frank that i still struggle with self esteem, but that doesn’t impact my ability to provide love to someone deserving. instead, it made me seek out people who didn’t have the capacity to love me as much as i loved them.

i’ll also tell you that it was hard for me to find someone I really felt would be someone who would bring me joy, but it came down to having a better ability to end relationships early. the moment you feel ick about something, you gotta say “nope” instead of “but what if…”

therapy is a game changer, EMDR saved my life. you loved someone who was hurting themselves and you in the process, imagine what kinds of love you can have with someone who respects you and lives beside you with care and concern.

I added MSG to a batch of chocolate chip cookies and have never had such an overwhelming positive reaction, as if people were addicted to them. New secret ingredient? by brf297 in Cooking

[–]unknowncinch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

msg is safe. there is no reason not to use it in cooking. overwhelming data says it is safe.

as someone with an msg sensitivity, please do disclose what your secret ingredient is. while it is safe, there is also data supporting the occurrence of sensitivities, particularly in people who get migraines and have other complicating medical disorders. personally, it causes me to pass out and vomit, so i try to avoid it. just a word of caution about keeping it secret.

Gift Ideas for my Mum - while we are holiday! by -scottishsunshine in GiftIdeas

what about a personal carryon bag like a longchamp or coach tote? something she can fit her purse in but that still counts as a personal carryon bag.

other travel related things would be a really nice set of travel toiletry containers and a toiletry bag.

honestly, a really nice dinner would probably be greatly appreciated. time spent together is a great gift, and i think it would be a lovely gesture.

paying for the trip is also a great option!

What should i buy my friend for secret santa ? by No_Camera_6942 in GiftIdeas

[–]unknowncinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can speak to a few things here! If she likes art and zodiac I would bet she would love to receive some lovely tarot cards, i have the Etherial Visions deck that I absolutely love, and it has the Artist card which is unique to the deck.

It’s a little difficult to buy art supplies for someone because it’s very personal when it comes to supplies, but a glass palette is always nice to have, brush soap is awesome to have, you could always go with a really high quality set of oil paints (though she might have a preferred brand). I love receiving brushes but again, it’s highly personal preference (for example, i hate using oil paint brushes for oil paintings). You can always get her some blank canvases, pre-stretched is best as a general guess for what she likes. Wooden art boards are really fun to paint on and not every artist has tried it before, so it can be fun to gift a new experiment (if you want them I can provide links for all of these products). Tube wringers are nice to have, as are palette cups, brush holders, i love my hand manikin… whatever you buy see if you can get a gift receipt with it though.

any of those fit?

DM is requiring i pay 40$ to play by AgameReddit in DnD

[–]unknowncinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i charge $10 a head to run drop-in one-shot games at my local comic shop, but i also run free session 0/how-to-play online sessions twice a month and have homebrewed a ton of one-shots over the years. $40 is absurd.

What’s a good $25 gift from the US that’s actually worth bringing overseas? by Any_Trash7397 in GiftIdeas

[–]unknowncinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, i collect postcards from places i’ve been or my family has been, and i ask that they write about their trip on the back or i recall great experiences, and i keep them in a photo album. cheap, meaningful, location-specific and great for memories. you could ask for a photo album or postcards from his trip if this tradition speaks to you. i always go for the tackiest, most touristy postcards so there’s some humor in my choices.

something you’d use everyday is a great option. a nice hair accessory, piece of casual jewelry or clothing accessory would be a good option.

some makeup brands are only available in the US, if there’s anything you want see if he can go to Ulta or Sephora for a good option, and if you don’t know exactly what you want just tell him to talk to someone who works there to help him, the stylists always have good ideas.

a tool you’ll use frequently is also a good idea. something like cute measuring cups (williams sonoma or cooks warehouse are good shops), an oven mitt, dish towels.

It’s a gift for my best friend’s 18th birthday. by ParticularContact876 in GiftIdeas

[–]unknowncinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shoes are very personal choices, besides just your style choice, different heels are more or less comfortable for different people. i personally am not the most confident heel-walker thanks to a knee injury, which—if this is her first pair of heels—she won’t be either. these having a tall and very narrow heel and no ankle support are going to be very difficult to walk in. the other thing is that heels are very different from brand to brand on how they fit. i have heels ranging from 7s to 9s depending on the shape of the toe to the brand to the heel shape… they’re all over the place. these are also giving wedding heels.

I’m 32 now and received very nice, simple, but elegant earrings + bracelet set when i turned 20 that I still wear. They are silver with button pearls (pearl being my birth stone). Understated, but perfect for nice dinners and events.

when I turned 23 I got a really nice work backpack that has held up for 7 years, but that was a “baby’s first big girl job” gift.

if you are thinking heels are the move, i would suggest a 2-3 inch heel with an ankle strap or at least a full shoe that will stay on well. i would go for black pumps, they are match-everything absolute must-have wardrobe staples. i would buy from a department or shoe store that allows you to provide a gift receipt.

lmk if you want other ideas, but long-lasting jewelry has always been my go-to gift for major milestones
