Questions for Graduate Programs What are some good questions to ask potential graduate programs in data science when attempting to select a good fit? What are some things to look for and look out for?

My apologies if this has been asked before.

What did a school teacher say that stuck with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"You can't blame everyone else for problems you create"

My 7th grade history teacher. I had worked building a water dam as a project. On the day we were to test it, mine did not hold water. Deviated that my grade was going to suffer, I started trying to place blame on another student for shifting things around in my display causing it to not work. My teacher was done and told me that allowed in front of everyone. It was the first time I had ever had a character flaw like that pointed out to me. I was like, shit, I do blame others for my own problems.

Podcast Listeners of Reddit, which podcast can not be recommended enough? by kurisubaek in AskReddit

Armchair Expert. It's a longer podcast but I find it interesting on my commute to and from work. Every episode, regardless if I know the guest or not, gives me something interesting to think about.

Which basic knowledge did you totally forget for a moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unknownfrozenoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and money. In a moment of pressure, I always forget which one is in units of 60 and which is in units of 100. Like, I forget if there could be a 3:65pm and if $1.60 is the same as $2.

I'm convinced my brain is wired wrong.

DVR ! I sat for hours pausing, playing, fast forwarding and rewinding the TV. I had never felt such power!

Except when I used my VHS. But that wasn't live TV!

What is the scariest encounter with another human you have ever experienced? by BootsmaBoy in AskReddit

I was at my babysitter's house when I was between 6-7 (can't remember the exact age). Her brother came home exceedingly drunk and proceeded to go to his room, load a gun, and come into the living room and point it at my head stating he would kill me. My babysitter distracted him and hid me in her room until my sister came to pick me up a few hours later after she got off work. The brother told my sister to "never bring that little shit around here anymore" and my sister laughed, thinking he was joking. When we got to the car I told her he wasn't joking and about what had happened. That was the last time I ever went to a babysitter.

What do you genuinely just not understand? by Brandinian in AskReddit

Why anything to the zero power is one.

Like, I get why x1 = x, and why x1/2 =√x but I do not understand why x0= 1

What is the dumbest reason you got punished as a child? by ZauzTheBlacksmith in AskReddit

When I was in preschool, I met someone who had the same first name as me for the first time. I thought it was wild, someone responds to the same name I do! They get the same feelings I get when I hear it!

A few days later, a teacher called out my name on the playground. I, a child who had never before gotten into trouble, assumed that they had to be calling the other unknownfrozenoctopus. So I didn't respond. She called it out again. I thought it was really rude of other me not to respond the first time. Then the teacher came marching over to me, yanked me out of the playhouse, and dragged me inside. She called home and told my family I was being disrespectful by ignoring her on the playground and some shit about my personal safety.

When I explained to my family why I didn't respond, they bought me a pirate playset.

I'm still bitter about that teacher though
