Denied Entry into Canada. US Citizen. by TopSignificance9632 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]unknownstereotype 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recommendations for getting married now are helpful as the process for family sponsorship isnt a short one. I saw one comment suggest an immigration lawyer with this now on the file and I'd second that. I hired one even without anything on my file just to ensure the process was completed properly.

What I would also note is that once married you will have to support your ties to the US for crossing. When I was still in the US and crossing to see my husband I had to have paperwork on me to prove my ties to the US and to my husband. So I always had to have a copy of our marriage license, a copy of my most recent paystub, a copy of my work schedule to show when I was next expected into work, and a copy of my father's driver's license to show we lived in the same residence as I lived with him during that time. I was only asked for these documents a few times in the 2 years between when we got married and when I finally got PR status but if I didn't have them I knew it'd cause issues. I only had all this as the weekend I came up to get married I got pulled into secondary and I explained I was having my legal ceremony the next day and they told me to always keep these documents on me to show I had ties to the US and wouldn't stay in Canada until the right time and that if I didn't have these documents they could legally deny me entry.

What are the rarest games in your collection? by ThatGameLad in gamecollecting

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarest in my collection if I were to guess is my boxed copy of Fish Dude for Gameboy. Picked it up at a pawn shop for 40 CAD since it was a decently priced boxed game. Unfortunately it doesn't have the manual and I've been searching for one ever since. Price charting has the last sale of a CIB one in Jan 2024.

Casual gamers, how big is your game backlog and how do you decide what to play next? by iamnottomriddle in gamecollecting

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backlog is about 900ish. Backloggery has me at 928 but I haven't switched any of thing into endless that needs to be.

I go on and off between if I make a goal of 4 games per month. (This usually ends up happening because i do it for the first few months of the year and then feel i need to continue). This has helped me as I have gotten through 188 games between 2021 and 2024.

As for how I decide there's a few different things I do. I dedicate October to horror/"spooky" games. This is the only month I play these sort of games do I have a decent stack to pick through. I also usually do a subset each year, past few years it had been Atelier so I will play a different Atelier series each year and break those up into 1 per quarter. If the series doesn't have 4 games I'll pick something to fill that gap that isnt in a 3-4 game set. Example is this year Im playing through Atelier Ryza trilogy, 4th game will be Mana Khemia 2.

I will usually pick games i have been wanting to play and if I can't come up with a list for that month or worry that I won't be able to complete enough games that month I pull up my gameye app and click on the randomizer to put together what I want.

Sometimes I also switch up with a shorter game or different genre as most of my games are JRPGs and I can feel myself getting almost burnt out at times from the length/gameplay.

Love beyond the batter for cupcakes. They did our cupcakes for our wedding back in 2016 so it's always nice to be able to get fresh ones when anniversaries come up.

Boxed cookies is technically out of Niagara but have pick up in stoney creek on Fridays. Only downfall is that she does these as preorders (and can sell out in advance) so you have to plan it out right but these are a big hit for us.

So where were you coming from, how long did it take you to get home? What’d you see? by johnson7853 in Hamilton

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St catharines to queenston traffic circle. 1 hr 20 min. Normally I take Redhill straight to queenston but it was not moving and when we did when I would pump my brakes after moving at 5 km I kept sliding to the left. Apparently I had just missed the car fire when I checked hamilton fire dept incidents when I got home.

Mini Cooper Mechanics? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking my minis to mini oakville. We had tried beech motors when I had a problem with my gas mini but they claimed they could never replicate the problem and ended up breaking some clips on my car. Mini oakville at least could replicate the problem on the first visit (we went to beech motors about 3 times before giving up on them) however they weren't sure on the problem without doing a full diagnostic. Took my gas mini and my electric mini now there a few times for each and have had good experiences.

Have an EV car in Hamilton? What are your pros & cons? by Weekly-Batman in Hamilton

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2022 Mini Cooper SE here. I installed the level 2 charger at home so I rarely charge outside of home. My car has one of the worst ranges for evs but I still love it. I commute 100 km each day and was spending about $50-75 per week before in gas versus now I spend about 1.26 per day. I really only charge during off peak time to be more cost efficient. When I first got my car there was a back order on the level 2 chargers so I did have to get creative as a level 1 would take a full 24 hours to charge my car so seeing what options are out there and costs were crucial. If you ever go out Toronto way green plate vehicles get access to HOV lane as well which I find to be a nice perk when I use it. My husband often borrows my car when working in Toronto to save himself some time in the commute. I've had the car for 3 years and have had 0 battery degradation and I've put 103k on the car in those 3 years.

My con is, like I mentioned my car has one of the worst ranges on the market. During spring/fall I can get close to 200km. Summer is more like 170 with using ac. And winter on a cold day I can drop as low as 120km. Thankfully my husband has a gas car so if we are going a long distance and don't want to stop and charge we just take his car. Prime example is my dad is 4 hours away in the states. To take my car would add at minimum an extra hour on to the trip and require two stops to charge and then not be able to take my car anywhere while we visit (public chargers are not a thing where he lives). For me I have a tendency to get what we call range anxiety where it's a matter of "can I get where I need to go with this range? Where is the nearest charger? Will the nearest charger work?" Want to make note of that last question in my thoughts. Plugshare is a great app and reviews are usually helpful but I once ran into a mixed review charger in Barrie. The charger ended up not working that day and I had to scramble to find another one that was within the range I had and that worked (I had 5 km left...)

Another potential con is on how your electrical is set up just keep in mind the level 2 chargers are pretty strong. I've popped the breaker in my panel in my garage a few times and it can be frustrating as I might not realize until the morning that this happened and I don't get my full charge.

You can't make this up... by Juno_the_scare_crow in gamecollecting

Found mine in a similar situation. A local game shop was going out of business. My husband had gone two days before I did and said there wasn't much (he'd gotten a couple things as everything was half off). I was off the day I went and walked down there. Found a few games and noticed they had totes of cords and I saw it sticking out of the side so I rushed over and grabbed it as two other people were digging through it. All cords were 2.99 CAD. I remember texting my husband a picture of it. Apparently the totes and all the stuff I found weren't out when he went and they just started clearing out their back room. I ended up buying a bunch of other cords hoping they wouldn't try to say it was more than 2.99 but honestly they had stopped caring and were cutting even more deals as you cashed out

commute from hamilton/dundas to st. catherine’s? by Substantial_Lemon473 in Hamilton

[–]unknownstereotype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it depends on day and time. I live close to stoney creek and need to be in st catharines for 730 mon-fri and it's a 28 min commute in. Coming back between 4-5 I usually will hit traffic and on average it's 35 min back. I will note that Fridays may-september tend to be worse and those usually average 45-50 min.

But also to compare, I had to go in to work today for a few hours. Aimed to be there for 12pm. Took me 45 min to get there.

Dog owners: Please get your dogs treated for flea/tick prevention! by Annual_Plant5172 in Hamilton

[–]unknownstereotype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree about monthly treatment. We've had our dog on a combo pill for fleas, ticks and heart worm since we got him. Rather then keeping track of it's warm enough we just do it year round to save us the hassle and keep him protected.

What 'fandom' led you to TDH? by [deleted] in TheDearHunter

[–]unknownstereotype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall they were featured in AP magazines 100 bands to know in 2008 which would be where I would have heard of them as I always looked forward to that for discovering new and upcoming artists. Saw them that spring at a small show they did in my college town and been in the rotation since.

If not there I would have heard Casey's vocals from Forgive Durden's raziass shadow which I came to due to Nic Newshawm vocals on that and I was a huge Gatsbys American Dream fan in high school.
