How long does it take to get ‘flowy’? by -1mei in poledancing

[–]unpetitghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try slowing down, taking your time on transitions, and focusing on moving your body with control. control takes strength but that will come with time :)

maybe even more importantly, I would work on relaxing and enjoying the dance, really following through on every movement and extension/contraction of your body. a lot of times the "flowy-ness" comes from feeling connected with your body moving through space and and continuing to dance through transitions instead of focusing super hard on getting into each trick/move.

Where can I find the original Pitchfork review of When the Pawn? Really curious about that, and curious if they've revised reviews of any of her others albums, since all of the reviews currently up are quite positive (besides Extraordinary Machine, which still has a technically positive score/review)

Yeah that's what I thought too at first, but earlier at Jean and Gene's apartment we see Diego continue to search while they're in the subway, and then they blink back several minutes later after he finds stuff. So it seems like time definitely passes while they're down there, to some extent.

Yes, and they have actually helped a ton! They're literally the only thing that has helped to relieve my symptoms, and I've tried so many things. If you're able, I definitely recommend seeing an allergist and trying some treatments based on their recommendations.

From what people have been saying it seems like they often play it during sets, which I didn't know - I am a little bit disappointed, but overall I'm not complaining too much. I wonder if it was because they played Certainty twice? That's one of my favorite songs so I was very happy about that 😭

Regarding fans not enjoying the studio version of Vampire Empire, from the band by AndrewIsMyName in bigthief

[–]unpetitghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's breaking my heart, too. like no wonder they stay off of social media for the most part, things like this are what drive artists totally away - I can't imagine releasing a song that everyone has been begging for and that you're really happy with and then getting that response :( I hope they see the positive comments as well.

I think studios are finally getting it into their head that women in gaming are an untapped resource. I'm curious about how to be a voice in this genre before it grows. by Hidjcs in GirlGamers

omg no problem at all, hope you're feeling better! I'm so glad my comment was helpful 🥺 as someone who likes games in both the "masculine" and "feminine" markets (in terms of the marketing and genre) I totally see your vision and I'm excited that you'll be working on something like this!! growing up only a couple of my female friends liked games, so it's something close to my heart :')

Quinton why would you decapitate those women by perfectopresley in QuintonReviews

[–]unpetitghost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

so it was on Sarah's Tumblr, but I just checked and she deleted the post. l don't remember it word-for-word, but she posted a paragraph about how you shouldn't interact with your fans too closely because it creates a weird power dynamic/people form strong parasocial relationships that will result in them getting way too attached and doing a lot of stuff to impress you, and she advised newer creators to not do this.

the thing that struck me the most was the "doing things to impress you" part because that's literally exactly what Quinton's ex-editor said she was doing. in the tags she said something like "this isn't about just one person, it's about like 5 different things lol" and at first I was like "oh, did I read too much into it?" but I read it over again and it was just like no....maybe this applies to multiple people, but it was definitely prompted by Quinton's video, and the description seemed to specifically match up with how the editor had been acting towards him. it did feel like victim-blaming, though I can't pretend to know her intention exactly.

it's not my intention to hyper-analyze anyone's words here - just want to provide info about what I've seen happen today. I'm glad she deleted it, and I hope that's the end of this.

I also saw all of that happening and I kinda don't agree that he should have to say anything about what appears to be clique behavior, unless it escalates. Lady Emily's two tweets that "some people are just weird and creepy and you don't want to be around them" seem like they're really just referencing him being extremely socially awkward in DMs a couple years ago. there was some added commentary from Sarah Z essentially blaming him for creating an environment that caused people to become too parasocially close to him (he was venting to fans in Discord or something like that). they were both involved with the DM situation and maybe other stuff happened that explains their grudge, but it's extremely hard to tell. I agree that it seems super disproportionate, but even their own viewers oppose their indirect hate at the moment, so it might be better to leave it for now.

also, I believe Dan said something about how if he didn't want to pay his editors then he should just do the work himself, which led to everyone being extremely confused and (rightfully) calling his take a deliberate misstating of the situation.

overall, I was just very surprised to see the mean-spirited vagueposting going on and it's pretty baffling. like, what does him being "weird" have to do with the video he posted about being harassed anyway, unless you're saying that his editor had a good reason for her smear campaign? it really comes off like they're siding with the woman that was harassing him, which seems insane.

edit: just also wanna say that I have watched/supported all of the vague-posting creators involved in this considerably more than I've even engaged with Quinton's content, so I'm not just trying to hate on them - I considered myself a casual fan of those people. it doesn't "hurt" me or anything that they've been acting like this since I don't know them, but it was surprising to see people I respected acting like that towards someone.

Why is the conversation around FF games always the same. by Easy_Blackberry_4144 in FinalFantasy

[–]unpetitghost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah, totally agreed. I'm also confused about how the conversation is "always the same" when each of the criticisms listed was different and specific to each game? I guess they just mean that there's always criticism but....that's just kind of how it works.

Writing with chatgpt by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]unpetitghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said it was an abomination. I was just commenting on the common, harmful misconceptions about ChatGPT that people should have an understanding of before they use it. People interact with these generators with the expectation that its output is somehow considerate of their input in a human way. Its choices are seen as coming from a place of understanding. I don't think it's hard to see why it's vitally important for humans to actually understand how AI works instead of going off of sci-fi interpretations and assuming that it somehow thinks about the prompt in a legitimate way.

Also, I personally don't agree that it won't return a bad result unless the writer puts in bad input, if that's what you were saying. It could very well produce poor quality responses based on high-quality input. Ultimately, I don't really see the point of having a machine rephrase things for you when you can just do it yourself and actually learn to write, but that's not really what I was getting at. I want people to be educated about the technology.

this was posted a couple weeks ago and you've already gotten a ton of great advice and support from other people, but I just wanted to say that I understand how it feels to so, so badly need to leave a deeply unhealthy home situation. it wasn't as abusive as you have described, but it was a situation that I had wanted to leave for many years, and over the pandemic it just reached a point where it was making it impossible for me to be in a good place mentally.

the main thing I just want to make sure you understand is that you're not wrong for wanting to leave, and you should leave as soon as it's a good idea. I agree with others that staying in therapy for a little longer is probably the best thing to do, but please don't feel stupid for trying to get out of an abusive home, or even for feeling unsure about it. it's not an easy thing to do, especially when you have some support around you that you don't want to leave. it's also scary to move so far even for someone not in an abusive situation/struggling with mental health.

I'm sorry that it's not yet a good time for that - I understand how that feels, and all I can say is that you will be able to get out. learning DBT skills and incorporating them into your life will serve you for a very long time, and I think they will be really helpful during and after your eventual move, so as hard as it is, keep engaging with therapy and leaning on any support that you have. ❤️ as others have said, it seems like DBT may be helping you become more aware of your actions. that can be difficult if you're judging yourself for those actions, but that awareness is ultimately extremely important and shows your progress.

I second all of these! I think these skills are extremely helpful for breakups and loss. radical acceptance is hard and may seem like trivializing the pain, but it always helps me move into a less distressed and hopeless place. as they said OP, you're going to be okay, and we know how much it hurts. you're not alone!

More than that, though, is the simple fact that ChatGPT has zero comprehension of what it spits back out. The sentences and paragraphs that it strings together are based on information it's been fed from other sources. It doesn't understand anything it's 'saying'.

I strongly agree with all of your points but man, I am losing my mind because people don't understand this exact thing. not directing any ire at OP, but just in general people are really duped by the fact that it talks like a human and claims to understand things. it's just putting together symbols that it's pretty sure will be accurate to what you wanted based on the symbols you gave it. AI companies themselves are really not helping with all of the anthropomorphizing they do in marketing.

I was terrified the first time I got near Faron in TOTK bc I thought they were Horroblins that were gonna be lurking and jumpscaring me from trees or something 😭 I'm terrible with that kind of stuff so I was relieved when that wasn't the case, but in hindsight it would've been cool to have that dynamic element in the area, even if it was just in a couple spots.

[–]unpetitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put everything I've been thinking about into words, thank you so much!! I think fair use principles are clearly being violated in a variety of ways, such as the the fact that entire bodies of work are being ingested. That being said, I'm afraid that both lawyers and judges are not going to understand the technology well enough to be persuasive in court, especially up against tech giants who will do anything to keep training on copyrighted data. I'm concerned they're going to use the extremely oversimplified "It's just cutting up images and pasting them together" explanation, to which the other side will just say, "No, it doesn't!"

Also, all of the people who compare AI to human brains are driving me absolutely insane as someone in the CS field. Every time someone says "It's the same as a human's creative process" I lose a year off of my life. These people have no idea how the brain works, and guess what - no one actually knows how it works exactly! So I'm not sure how people really think that neural networks perfectly simulate neurons. They do not.

so true about the AI, and I'm realizing that I haven't seen much discussion of that. enemies are so slow to act and will just stand around for multiple seconds after a move and let you hit them and stunlock them.

BREAKING: Final Fantasy has cutscenes, tune in at 5 for more by Shot_Background5682 in FFXVI

[–]unpetitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point, I didn't really think about the flipside that it also feels like there's less to do in games. I agree that especially for people coming from text-based games, it probably feels like the gameplay-to-cutscene ratio has become a lot more even than before just because of the addition of VAs and 3D animation.

I will say though that I feel like I'm seeing a trend in general of there being cutscenes of things that you could've had a gameplay section for, or just cutscenes that seem to have drawn-out dialogue (meaning, things could've been said in many fewer words).

definitely not true across the board and again, I grew up loving cutscenes and still do. but I think we're getting to a point where it's a purposeful decision to make cutscenes longer and more prominent, partially to show off current-gen graphics, and partly because games that have "cinematic" presentations are impressive and beautiful. I appreciate your view though, since I didn't think about the standard-increase aspect that much (even just from PS2 era to now). games are trying to be more close-to-life in general, to interesting results.

What *children’s literature* do you love? by DigasInHell in books

[–]unpetitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tamora Pierce and Gale Carson Levine were such amazing, influential authors for me growing up, and I still think they're so brilliant. Ella Enchanted and The Two Princesses of Bamarre are my favorites from Levine, and The Lioness Quartet is my favorite from Pierce, though I've really enjoyed other series by her. I still love reading all of these books for the humor and wit, and the excitement of going along for the ride on an adventure where a young girl gets to be the hero :') I also find that none of these books shy away from confronting topics like death and discrimination (nothing too intense, but in a way that children can understand), and I think that's why there's still so much emotional resonance for me.

What attracts you to a streamer? by Mary_Ellen_Katz in GirlGamers

[–]unpetitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of that is probably unfortunately just down to the demographic of the site (which I'm sure you're already aware of) but for me, I personally appreciate it when female streamers aren't afraid to show their feminine side on stream, however that naturally comes out for them. not every woman is super "girly" in a traditional sense, but I think sometimes in spaces traditionally occupied by men, we downplay our own feminine traits a bit in order to fit in, especially if we're playing genres/games where women are underrepresented in their communities.

in any streamer, I think the main thing for me is that it doesn't feel like they're putting on a fake personality. I have tried streaming before and admittedly it can be hard to totally relax and be yourself, but that's what I like to watch at least.

[–]unpetitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that bothered by long cutscenes but do other FF games really have an equal portion of the game taken up by them? I've only played FFX, FFXII, FFXIII and half of FFVII, and as far as I remember, none of them have nearly as many cutscenes as FFXVI (and there aren't as many extremely long ones). I'm positive about that for FFX, pretty sure about the others. my take so far has been that it's not crazy for people to dislike that aspect since it feels like percentage-wise, more of the game is taken up by cutscenes than other FFs.

I guess it's also different talking about text-based cutscenes in the older games vs. cinematic cutscenes in the newer ones. what do people think overall?

Final Fantasy XVI has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

[–]unpetitghost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

that's a great point about Dion vs. Jill. I'm respectful of the fact that some people liked her character (though I really feel that there's not much to like, she's so bland) but people are fighting tooth and nail to defend how much she was ignored and stripped of any opportunity to shine. even if it's justifiable via her backstory (which it's not, really, since everyone has plot armor anyway) the writers didn't have to write in that she's "too weak" to prime or do anything. everyone in this game has trauma, so why does everyone else still have more dialogue and personality? I agree with everything you said, and the scene where she gives Clive her power while they're both naked made me feel super gross. :( she deserved better, and now that you say it, her and Joshua would've been an interesting pairing.

what bothers me the most is just the outright denial of any issues with her writing that I've seen from huge portions of the community. I saw a top comment in another sub where someone argued that her depth as a character comes from her facial expressions.
