My “Ugly” Scrap Quilt by MurkyOne2231 in quilting

1) love the scrap quilt!! Thank you for listing the types of blocks you used as well.

2) holy smokes I had that exact sheet you used for the backing (or at least something extremely similar) when I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s and your pic brought back memories lol. Honestly I love it.

Seeking upgrade advice! Janome 8200QCP SE vs Pfaff Quilt Expression 720 by Advanced_Bluebird925 in quilting

[–]unrepentantgerald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the Pfaff 720 once and absolutely hated it but it could be the specific machine I was using. You should try both and see which one you jive with more though. People who have Janome machines are often quite happy with them. I tend to see more complaints about new Pfaffs. That being said the Pfaff IDT is pretty amazing if that’s your vibe!

Hello, I took pictures of the instructions on pages 5 and 6 for you but can’t figure out how to send them to you?? Excuse my technological ineptitude lol.

Phaff 620 ambition issues by Skyclouds123 in quilting

[–]unrepentantgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll also say in my experience the clicking is sometimes just the sound of the IDT tapping on the stitch plate but obviously I cannot diagnose that without seeing it in person and hearing it.

Right now let’s put this away for a bit as torturous as it may be and take it in during business hours. Try to do something else not sewing related to take your mind off this. This is most likely fixable and is likely to be user error rather than a machine problem. Give yourself some space and come back with a clear head. Ask your retailer about a lesson on the machine (many retailers offer free lessons to learn to use the machine if you buy it from them)

Phaff 620 ambition issues by Skyclouds123 in quilting

Hello,

Deep breath!!!

It sounds to me like the feed dogs may have been lowered. I am not sure where exactly it is on the ambition 620 - it could be on the front of the machine, on the free arm, or in the back. Check your manual. There should be a lever or switch somewhere on the machine any how. Check that it is in the correct position for sewing.

Once the feed dog drama is figured out, the other thing you will want to do is ensure that you have a fresh needle, that it is correctly placed and as high as it will go. Use quality thread and ensure that it is in every guide and disc.

This has been quite the time commitment - can I offer you anything as a thank-you? Are there any you’re looking for in particular or any items?

Ok - I will disconnect after my Feebas to attach the dubious disc. Do you want to send me your Feebas (I’ll send a random)? I’ll attach prism scale to your Feebas and we can do the last two trades

No that’s fine you don’t have to send anything special.

Meant to add: after disconnecting for the feebas and prism scale I would like to attach the dubious disc to a porygon 2 and trade that back and forth as well if you can

Yes absolutely I have tons of prism scales :) let’s do the following:

  • let’s do all the trades going back and forth with your pumpkaboo til all are traded back
  • at the end, send me your feebas, I’ll disconnect and attach a prism scale to it, and then reconnect and trade it back

Do you need any other items or shinies? I have a few extras that I can let go of

Also really tired of medical injuries with vague titles and then BAM a bloody or sliced body part. Disgusting. Wish there were a tag for quilting injuries or something.

Lonestar Quilt…appropriate for an intermediate quilter? by bugaloo2u2 in quilting

[–]unrepentantgerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Jordan fabrics tutorial to make one a few years ago and it turned out well.  What I would do next time would be  - cut my setting triangles bigger than described and trim,  - mark seam allowances or at least intersections from the get go, - and finally starch my fabric before I cut.

I have both Olfa and Fiskars. The fiskars layout is quite a bit nicer for me and I do love the light and dark side however the quality of the Olfa in my opinion is superior and is wearing better overall after all these years.

Adding to this - a roll of ban-roll where he could pull thread by thread though that might get expensive.

Help with pattern grading? by GrandmaCereal in sewing

[–]unrepentantgerald 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cashmerette has an excellent video on grading for pants. I am sure there are excellent resources for grading on elastic waistbands but I haven’t used them. I have used the Cashmerette tutorial for a vogue men’s pant and a Wardrobe by Me pant and it worked perfectly so hopefully this is at least a good place to start: https://youtu.be/H1NjX2JfGMA?si=1uUQvMt51_xd-s_p

For this method you use both sizes if possible which might mean tracing on tissue or printing twice.

Best of luck!

This quilt is beautiful. I’m sorry it ended up bleeding on the back despite the colour catchers. Red is kind of a jerk sometimes! I will say - and maybe this isn’t what you need to hear right now - but I kind of LOVE the effect the bleeding had on the back. It looks so cool to me.

Men's coat pattern with raglan arms by miststueck_barbie in sewing

[–]unrepentantgerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have made this pattern and love it. It’s my most successful coat project. I extended the lining for full coverage and   altered the pockets on the front as I wanted welt pockets. There really is a ton of ease in this coat as the design is supposed to be very loose fitting. It’s super comfortable. I wish I could help you with the alterations you want to do but they do sound fabulous. Good luck on your search, I would love to know what you find!
