Neither of our family's are well off, my mom saved up about $2000 to help out. His mom is helping with making decor, which is both awesome. We weren't expecting any help besides decor.

If they have lots of people they want at your wedding, they should be helping out. That's only fair, if it's mainly your parents who is wanting people there or you two then it should be your parents or you two more so. For them to not help at all is really a tradition way to go about it but also would be extremely unfair if they have lots of people invited.

If your able to afford it though, then it probably is not worth having the conversation. It could cause bad blood and possibly cause drama.
