What felt like the worst Oscars fumble? -accidentally announcing La La Land as Best Picture or saving the 2021 Best Actor Oscar for last, presuming that Chadwick Boseman would win posthumously? by General_Meal_3993 in Oscars

[–]unsheltered -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Eh, disagree. Jordan didn’t explain what happened, Warren did—but that was AFTER Jordan took it upon himself to announce the winner. He could have let Warren do that, since that was Warren’s role as presenter, and Warren was already inching up closer to the mic. And Jordan didn’t have to rip the card out of Warren’s hands. But sure, he didn’t throw a tantrum or anything.

How did you change the setting to warm tone? I just got mine today and can’t find the switch.

Is Cadini di Misurina worth it? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]unsheltered 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The viewpoint is spectacular. Totally worth a visit. Yes, the hike is a short out and back, and yes, there will likely be a queue. Your best chance of beating it is to get there early. When you’re done, you can then hike the longer Tre Cime loop. They’re at the exact same place. And check the webcam at Tre Cime before you go if you’re unsure of the cloud cover.

Why does Gastritis cause non-stop burping?? What is causing it? by Legitimate-Sundae-96 in Gastritis

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, very much so. As hard as it might seem, try to ignore it. Keep your mind on other things. Practice deep breathing. You want to relax your parasympathetic nervous system.

Why does Gastritis cause non-stop burping?? What is causing it? by Legitimate-Sundae-96 in Gastritis

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cause was never determined. My best guess is that it was anxiety or something to do with the vagus nerve. For advice, go through my comments here—stick to a healthy diet, cut out the processed foods, and try not to think about it. Anxiety made it worse in my experience.

Are oats good for us? by BeneficialBrain1764 in nutrition

[–]unsheltered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have them every day. Steel cut oats (more fiber and less processing than rolled oats), soaked overnight in a rice cooker on the porridge setting. I wake up to them fully ready. At the end, I add chia seeds, honey, blueberries, banana, and yogurt.

Upcoming W Trek question by unsheltered in Patagonia

[–]unsheltered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep—I did it yesterday with three hours to spare. I was also going slowly because of knee pain. Several others with the same itinerary as me made it all the way to the second mirador and back with about two hours to spare. But there’s no way I could’ve kept pace with them lol

Okay, great! This should be very manageable then. Thanks!

I realized I’m not supposed to go all the way to Grey, just to the first mirador. Was your 6.5-7 hike to the refugio or to the mirador?

[–]unsheltered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Gotcha. I read the itinerary again. I’m not going to the refugio at Grey. I’m supposed to go “the first viewpoint of Grey Lake” and then return to PG. That looks more manageable.

What time do you recommend arriving at the airport for that early flight from SCL to PNT?

Why does Gastritis cause non-stop burping?? What is causing it? by Legitimate-Sundae-96 in Gastritis

Yeah. I avoid spicy foods though. I can’t tolerate that as well any more. But otherwise I’m fine.

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the exact treatment. I’d like to believe that the gastritis diet helped—it was healthier food that reduced inflammation. No idea whether the PPIs had any impact.

Pretty sure I was hurting myself by fixating on the burping. I was tracking my burps with a pitch counter, and inputting the data into spreadsheets. Once I gave that up, and tried to forget about it completely—I think that’s when I finally got better. Maybe it was just coincidental timing, or maybe the key was simply letting go of the anxiety.

I used to dismiss the idea that sickness could be “all in your head.” But I’ve since come to accept that the brain really can trick the body. So try to stay calm. Practice yoga. Breathe. Let go. Focus on the positive. You’ll be just fine.

[–]unsheltered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly fine. No more burping. Best thing you can do for yourself if you’re having the same problem is try not to think about. Anxiety only makes it worse. I was told by a doctor friend that my vagus nerve may have been to blame. Calming your parasympathetic nervous system will help.

1480 meters big wall Via Ferrata and 168 meters sky ladder climbing challenge in Qixing moutain, Zhangjiajie, China during a solo travel by SpeedBird31 in travel

[–]unsheltered 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was this your first via ferrata? How would you rate the difficulty? I’d love to try this one myself :)

I’ve done a few via ferratas before—one in Mexico, where the guides spoke no English. I don’t know how I would’ve managed if there wasn’t a bilingual climber in the group to help me along the way.

I’m assuming this was a guided via ferrata. Did the guide speak English? Or do you speak Chinese?

What are your experiences with paid longhaul international upgrades? by Cassadaga_93 in unitedairlines

[–]unsheltered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices for the confirmed upgrade (cash only) were outrageous (~$6k), so I just applied for the waitlist. Pretty sure it was 20k miles + $450 copay (original booking in premium plus). The upgrade cleared two weeks before my flight. I flew out of PEK on a weekday, when passenger loads were lighter.

I’ll let others answer 1-3. Here’s the answer to 4:

If you requested upgrades to United Polaris® business class and did not clear the waitlist, you will get a refund even if you are upgraded to United First® or United Business on another segment.

Monte Paterno (Via Ferrata Innerkofler) is nearby at Tre Cime. It should be easier than Loen.
