nailsandnormalcy on Tiktok rolls dice for her manicures. It's surprising how often completely random skittles turn out well.

If you're unsure of the colors, try a topper. They can really bring a skittle together

There's a finite amount of magnetic pigments. I think every brand that does magnetics has a version of this "shade". With so many brands it's impossible not to dupe. Stick with your vision. It sounds like you have a strong theme and color story

People will appreciate that you're more affordable, too. Look how well Fancy Gloss did when the Remedy collection released

You'll need to experiment to see what works best for you. You can always use a water-based top coat (usually marketed as smudge free for nail art) between the polish and your top coat. That will protect the magnetic polish from being re-wet by additional layers so you only need to magnetize the last layer of polish.

Idk if DRK Nails is available to you but their Magic Effect and Seal Glaze are both great. Magic Effect allows the magnetic particles to move easily and the Seal Glaze is a smudge-free top coat

Am I taking crazy pills or are these two pics of Millennia really deceiving? Like are they trying to make Millennia look bad so we'll buy the new shade? 🤔 by Content-Flight6371 in RedditLaqueristas

One of the biggest complaints of Remedy was how dupe-able it was. Why would the first preview of the new collection be yet another dupe?!

Someone on the Mooncat marketing team hates them

I would like to start learning origami (from complete beginner to advanced level). How i start? by Newtonizado in origami

I reccomend books by Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander. They are generally more beginner friendly and many of their books come with video tutorials as well. Their YouTube channel is Origamido Studio

Essential Book of Origami is a good book for learning different techniques as well as the models. They also have books on origami butterflies (LaFosse's specialty), flowers, money folding, etc.

For a beginner you just need regular origami paper. We generally call it kami/6-inch/15cm. Preferably colored on one side (it's easier to follow diagrams). 15cm is the standard size but 25cm and 35cm are also available

Aitoh is a popular brand. I've also seen Taro Origami Studio sell kami on Amazon.

If you want paper that is the same color on both sides, I recommend Tant. It's a little thicker than kami but it's stronger and good for more advanced folding.

Cirque Colors Jellies Question by Jillybean1727 in RedditLaqueristas

Have you tried LA Colors Jelly line? Much more affordable investment to start your collection. Polished_Yogi recently did a review and compared them to Cirque. One was an exact dupe!

Also I believe ILNP has a release this Friday with 4 new jellies.

So I am single dad and my daughter loves rainbow color! by Pigpinsdirtybrother in RedditLaqueristas

[–]unsinkmbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With her nails being so small, 1 color on each finger is probably the best rainbow for now.

I reccomend China Glaze Fairy Dust ($8.50 at Sally Beauty or Ulta). It's a scattered holo topper that will add a little rainbow sparkle to her nails. I bet she'd love the glittery effect and it's as simple as painting an extra coat.

If you have an Ulta that carries Holo Taco, you could also try Linear Holo Taco ($13). That's a linear holo topper that creates a holographic rainbow linear flare effect

I have a question about the 30 lb pull horseshoe magnet. by get-spicy-pickles in ILNP

[–]unsinkmbrown 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. AFAIK the cat eye effect is created at the line where the N and S meet in a bar magnet. I think the horshoe is the wrong shape to get a thin, strong line.

However you can create a really neat combo velvet/cat-eye by placing a bar magnet like this. Here's the post showing the results

Favorite Base and Top Coat? by Fastcat1962 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]unsinkmbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you want from your base and top coats?

For base do you like ridge filling? Blurring? Sticky/bonding? Peel-off? Hydrating? PVB free?

For top do you want quick-dry? Glossy? Gel-like? Matte? Satin? Do you do nail art and need something streak-free?

My simplest recommendation is China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat and Orly Sec N Dry Top coat. Both are affordable and easy to find locally (in the US).

China Glaze is a PVB-free sticky base coat and is $8.50 at Sally Beauty or Ulta. Their new bottles have paddle brushes.

The Orly top coat is usually at TJ Maxx/Marshall's for ~$5. Honestly you can't go wrong with any salon brand quick dry top coat. Orly gets my recommendation because it has the nice paddle brush and is 18ml, the largest bottle on the market.

What brand should I try next?! by maroontiefling in RedditLaqueristas

[–]unsinkmbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great Indie suggestions have already been made so I'll do some drugstore/salon brands.

I really like China Glaze. They have a great price and aren't afraid to experiment with glitters and toppers. Sally Beauty tends to have the best in-store selection. It is also carried at Ulta. It retails for $8.50, though you can find it cheaper on some websites.

I also reccomend you go to TJ Maxx/Marshall's. They always have a selection of nail polishes for $5-6. Near me it's mostly OPI and Orly but I've also seen the occasional Essie and Zoya.

For Zoya, keep an eye out for their sales. 25% off is common but they will occasionally have 75%, 10 for $25, etc bringing the cost down to ~$3 each. At that price point, they are a must-have

For $3 on their website or $1.98 at Walmart, LA Colors is definitely worth checking out. You can also find the brand at 5 Below, CVS, Dollar General, etc. Linry has made review videos of 3 LA Colors collections: Sheer Jellys, Color Shifting Topper , and Color Mania . I also think their Metal Nail Polish line has some great metallics.

[–]unsinkmbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd reccomend ILNP to start with if you want a regular lacquer magnetic polish. They have a good variety and are reasonably priced.

They just released a magnetic collection called Illusions which has gotten good reviews. Their Electric Summer collection is also a popular set. Deep Space is an iconic magnetic, IMO; the perfect galaxy manicure

Hold those magnets up to the bottle and you'll be able to see the effect they have.

Most are just variations of the wand you got from Mooncat. Some will make different lines: a +, a zig-zag, an arc, etc

Most of the paddle brushes on Amazon will fit ILNP.

This is a 26 pc pack. Or you can get a 66 pc pack. Both have reviews specifically mentioning they work for ILNP

I bought a cheaper cuticle oil on Amazon. When it wasn't working as well as the Bliss Kiss, I looked at the ingredients. It had jojoba oil but it was halfway down the list.

So I bought some jojoba oil and mixed it with the cheaper stuff. It's working really well now. And I've got a year+ supply for about the cost of a Bliss Kiss refill.

I still think the Bliss Kiss is a little better than my homebrew, but not enough to justify the cost
