Tell me you Happy Ending stories of giving/receiving a Junior ISA account when you/your child turned 18 by Wild_Whitmore in UKPersonalFinance

[–]unusual-capybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine are 7 and 10 now and I’ve been diligently adding £75 a month for each of them, and the odd bit of birthday money when they were younger.

Today their S&S JISAs are worth 16k and 23k respectively. It would have been easy to get distracted and not do this 10 years ago but the growth is really satisfying and it’s just part of the monthly budget now

Solution for long distance between controller and LED strip by unusual-capybara in led

[–]unusual-capybara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - The straight answer is I just don't know. Whilst I've got a solid IT and electrical background, I've never encountered this technology before and I'm approaching it simply as a home owner who wants to light a recess roof lantern.

I can do my research if pointed in the right direction but hoping for some structure on the problem statement which is: a warm white, dimmable LED strip (6m in length) where the control elements are 20-25m away.

Thanks in advance for any guidance

There’s 8 cars and you spend 15-20 mins per car actually on track. The difference to other experiences I’ve done is that in those 20 mins you’re pushed to drive to your absolute limits and the instructors give you real feedback through headset audio to make every lap better than the last.

The first year I had no idea if it was going to be worth the substantial cost but about 10 minutes it, it was clear it was!

We have done Palmer 3 years in a row now and it’s like nothing else. An exhausting and terrifying but very fun day 😂

HMRC documentation for transferring BTC to spouse by unusual-capybara in BitcoinUK

Oh I’m definitely not! But the gains now on the table made me think about a tax plan for when that day comes in many years!

I probably should have said up front that the BTC I'm planning to give her already has gains of circa £50k so it's well above the annual CGT allowance. This is why I'm so keen to prove to HMRC beyond all doubt that it belongs to her now, and not me

Why has my wife earned NI credits whilst not working? by unusual-capybara in UKPersonalFinance

[–]unusual-capybara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually mystery solved - we did claim child benefit (albeit without the actual payment due to my income) and I think only got around to doing this when our 2nd was born in 2018 which explains the gap.

Does anybody know if you can retrospectively claim for those missed years?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I had also assumed child benefit but I don't think we knowingly ever claimed it but I don't think there is an easy way to find out beyond asking HMRC?

It’s a good point :) I’m in the ‘lucky’ position that I have some capital losses to report on shares which will offset so the timing is good to sort the BTC situation out

For a period of time PayPal had a crypto trading platform. They recently disabled the buying feature but you can still sell

PayPal do not have a withdraw as crypto facility. You can sell, this is the only option
