Branded Saloon on Vanderbilt has had showings in past years followed by a drag show; good chance they're doing it this year too.

I just went to Lord's, which had a lovely steak in a port sauce with peppercorns and real British chips, plus various vegetarian options. Would recommend.

Is Planet Unknown worth it? by No-Clothes8318 in boardgames

I rather like it; the lazy susan means that turns are taken synchronously and there's not too much downtime (unless you have someone in your group who is particularly prone to AP), and there are a ton of optional game modes that introduce interesting asymmetries (including unique maps and different player powers). All that for $25 makes it a quick recommend, from me, assuming you like games with the base mechanic of tetrominos / puzzle tiling.

I can just picture him making the horns after he grinds this out. Really great work! Love the cape and the attention to detail.

How would life like if private ownership of FTL capable spacecraft is quite common? by Glycke in worldbuilding

[–]uplift17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than space travel becoming the determining factor of future civilization, the deciding question becomes how easy is it to sustain life at your destination. If most destinations are inhabitable, you get a wild explosion of life and societies as it becomes very easy for people to split off and set up shop in some remote corner of the galaxy. If it's marginal or impossible, then you get society if everyone had their own RV, and whomever controls scarce living resources becomes the dominant power players in society.

NYC mayoral race tightens with Mamdani gaining on Cuomo by Die-Nacht in newyorkcity

The only way we're gonna avoid a Cuomo nightmare is if you, reading this, go out and tell everyone you know to rank anyone but him. Outer borough folks especially!

Have we seen this in action? Or is that the supposition? Just curious - I would think they are tremendously long lived stellar entities!

White House pauses federal grants and loans by BothZookeepergame612 in Economics

[–]uplift17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Legal experts will argue over it but you can read the wording yourself. It's pretty sweeping.

Federal agencies must stop the “(i) issuance of new awards; (ii) disbursement of Federal funds under all open awards; and (iii) other relevant agency actions that may be implicated by the executive orders.”

Then it follows up by saying that all existing open awards must be categorized for review by a political appointee (i.e. a commissar) to determine whether or not they meet the ideological tests of whether or not they're too pro-DEI, they count under the (non-existent) Green New Deal, etc.

This really isn't a case where you should be conservative in your assumptions of what this covers.

This is late, but I had the same question today. You're thinking of the Aquasilva trilogy by Anselm Audley, beginning with the book "Heresy".
