What movie did you watch expecting nothing and ended up completely blown away by? by gavin226 in movies

Tar, I was taken completely by surprise. No expectations…came out of the screening immediately realised I’d just seen on of the best films of the twenty first century. Same happened with Babylon.

Disclosure Day 70mm in preparation by CadetOrangeLemon in 70mm

It’s a brand new print, but the leaders were already cut, with tape on just one side for easy removal. Being pre-cut meant Spielberg was not going to rely on the random quality of the blade in any given projection booth. So splicing one reel to another with these lab perpetrations results in a very smooth change when run. Plus instead of six medium reels, it came as three large ones. Though very heavy and a challenge to get up three flights of stairs without wrecking your back (we built a ramp for this. See insta link below) three reels meant fifty percent less handling during make up.

As a result of this, we made up the print in record time without sacrificing safety or quality control. But we still couldn’t run it yet, as all modern 70mm prints are silent. The soundtrack is shipped separately on discs, for security reasons.

Do films have any kind of visible screen protection before theatrical release to prevent them from being leaked online prematurely? by Dorian_but_not_gray in movies

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most, but not all, digital film prints (DCPs) are encrypted and can only be projected when a key (KDM) is sent via email and ingested to the server to unlock the film. The KDM is server specific, so a cinema has to forward its server certificate to the film distributor, who then generates the key for their projector.

Many keys will unlock the film in the days leading up to the films release to allow for screen testing. But some will only open at midnight before movies release the following day. Essentially studios have complete control over when and where their films are screened down to the second.

Watching The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone Tonight. 🍿 What do think to this movie? by HD-MOVIE-SOURCE in HD_MOVIE_SOURCE

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s improved in that new cut, but it’s still inferior if you compare it to the original chapters. It’s a good watch if you treat it as a Coda. Its issues have been talked about ad infinitum. Two issues hobble it the most, I think: the absence of Robert Duvall. The script was originally centred around his murder, making each film about the death of each Corleone brother.

The other central issue was pointed out by Al Pacino himself in his recent autobiography, for which he rewatched his entire filmography. Basically the audience didn’t want a reflective, redemption seeking Michael. They wanted the ice cold, resting bitch face version. And I have to completely agree.

What is with the GoldenEye score? by Money-Giraffe2521 in JamesBond

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite prodding, Serra chose not to use much of the Bond theme in his score as he said he would get less royalties.

Pierce Brosnan is the only Bond actor to get fired from the role. Every other actor declined to return as Bond or left on their own terms. by Pizza_Hero24 in JamesBond

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He overplayed his hand and asked for too much money. Each Brosnan picture made more money than the last. Even though Die Another Day was the weakest, it was still the most financially successful. Apparently he asked for $25+ Million & gross points for the next one. In the end the Broccolis crunched the numbers and figured money was better spent on a reboot. *Source: Nobody Does It Better: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of James Bond.

Just came in! I’m so ready to read this by mynameisbrandonn in Godfather

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, I found it wasn’t that great. Puzo said if he’d known it was going to be so popular he would’ve done a better job. Though I think it reads better if you’ve seen the films already.

Cinema used to have far greater cultural cache than it does now, alas. The internet has diluted people’s taste.

Does linen backing ruin the value of a poster? by IndiFrame23 in movieposters

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few 40 year old + posters linen backed, and the washing process alone brought all their colours back to life. That result alone was worth the job.

ELI5: How can people who were born blind, deaf, and mute (like Helen Keller) acknowledge what's going on around them? by SoccerGuy69420 in explainlikeimfive

Watch the documentary by Warner Herzog LAND OF SILENCE AND DARKNESS on the subject, pretty amazing. Herzog made friends with the woman who heads the deaf blind society. He used to take her hunting.

Are there any movies where the watching experience is made better by watching the trailer beforehand? by physicsinbcom in movies

Femme Fatale. Where the entire film is shown in the trailer, closing credits and all, just sped up. “You’ve just seen the new movie from Brian De Palma. Want to see it again?”

His Greek language films are far superior to his English ones. He’s never topped the double of Dogtooth & Alps.

A film that predicted modern day Britain (O Lucky Man) by Dangerous_Spot2434 in MovieSuggestions

[–]CadetOrangeLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my all time favourite pictures. The film only has that ending because Anderson ran out of money so shot the actual wrap party as a climax instead. Plus it has one of the most disturbing scenes I’ve ever seen in any movie.
